  • Congrats to 'The Rest' for winning the 2020 TZC!
  • Thanks to everyone that participated in the TZC this year - its your efforts that make these contests work!
  • Please take a moment to offer some thanks to drougnor for being the stats PIMP once again.  We should not take his efforts for granted simply because he has been so reliably willing to provide stats for our contests and team in general!
  • Also a big thanks to notfordman for being our PMMaster this year and getting the word out to get people signed up for the contest
  • We had some very impressive numbers this year:
    • 4.84 billion points in 10 days
    • 110 or so active contest folders
    • a generous outpouring of prizes donated by our folding community - thanks again to all our donors:  STR1D3R_2, favrepeoria, 427jmf, kckinwa, notfordman, SmookinJoe, GTXJackBauer, Nereus, l2528014, c6vette, _2100_, un4givn85, G1ntonic, yodap, BadBertie, the_Scarlet_one, Sprinx
  • The prize drawing will take place tomorrow 12/31 at 12:00 PM Eastern.  Stop by the forums tomorrow to watch the drawing live!
    • If you haven't submitted prize preferences by the time of the drawing, you may forfeit your claim to a prize.

Please read the following carefully to make sure you understand the prize selection process.  Unfortunately, in the past people have missed out on prizes due to not reading/following the instructions.  If anything is unclear, or I left something out, or if you have any questions please ask!

    •         BadBertie
    •         the_Scarlet_one
    •         Sprinx
  • Unfortunately I didn't have the time to give Punchy enough fair warning to see if he was willing to set up his prize picker so things will be a little different this time.
  • You can view a list of all available prizes here: https://sites.google.com/...hallenge/folding-gifts
  • Fill out this form to determine your rank of prizes on the list.
  • Please fill out prize selection by the end of the day 12/30/2020.  If you have not filled out your prize preferences by the time of the drawing, you may be passed over for prizes as I won't know what your preferences are.
  • Please only fill out the form once.  If you need to make changes, please send me a PM.
  • If there are only a few prizes you want, you do not have to fill out every selection choice.  You can stop after selecting all the prizes you are interested in.
  • If you are not intending to select a prize, please fill out the form and select the option to pass on prizes.
  • The drawing for prizes will take place on Thursday 12/31/2020.  Names will be drawn and in the order of the drawing each individual will get their most preferred prize from all remaining prizes.
  • Prize winners will be posted here:  https://sites.google.com/site/timezonechallenge/gift-recipients
  • Once the prize selection has been posted to the TZC site feel free to reach out to the donor/recipient to get the get/give shipping info.

  • A big thanks to everyone that has donated something to give away at the end of the contest.  EVGA's folding community has always been an incredibly generous group and its nice to see that tradition continue. There are absolutely no expectations, but feel free to join in if you are so inclined and able to do so.
  • A quick reminder that tomorrow 12/25/2020 is the last day to add something to the prize pool.
  • The prize selection process will begin Saturday 12/26 - be on the lookout for instructions regarding prize selection!
  • The drawing for prize distribution is tentatively scheduled to take place Thursday 12/31/2020.
  • Did yodap bite off more than he could chew?

  • The 2020 Time Zone Challenge is now underway - fire up those rigs and fold some WUs!
  • Unfortunately, the following individuals have been removed from the contest because they have not folded any WUs for team 111065, despite multiple pleas from drougnor leading up to the start of the contest.  Without a record of them in the stats data file, drougnor is unable to track their stats:
    • miyoshi82
    • DarthCanada
    • merintil
    • Wesleyg1    Forum name wgunder1
    • TechnoSide2
    • Shizzle_Popped    Forum name jvandyne
  • 12/25/2020 is the last day to donate a prize to give away at the end of the contest!
  • The prize selection process will begin 12/26/2020 and the drawing will take place at the end of the contest.  Please be sure to check the forums regularly so you don't miss the instructions and your chance to select a prize!  (you can always find any important announcements in the first post of this thread).

Last week I flipped the switch on my folding rig and with a lot of creaking, moaning and a slight smell of burning electronics (the cooling fans are shot and the PSU needs at least new fan or full replacement after almost 10 years of continuous folding service) the fans spun up and the boot process begun.  Back in March when the pandemic hit I had stopped folding for any significant period of time the first time in over 5 years due to the constant errors with the folding servers at the time, the lack of available WUs as people and corporations jumped on the folding bandwagon to fight Covid-19, and a bit of frustration with my aging GPUs.

But drougnor recently let me know that he was gaining on me and had intentions to soon pass me.  While I may not come close to matching his folding firepower, what I lack in hardware I generally make up in commitment as I generally fold what I’ve got 24/7/365.    All that to say: it’s been a long year and we all could use a little something to look forward to!
  • In 2009 Zerran2001 created the inaugural Time Zone Challenge Folding contest for EVGA's folding team.
  • This year we hope to continue the tradition of good-natured fun and trash-talking among our team in a contest that is better than ever!
  • Sign ups for the 2020 Time Zone Challenge are now open and run through December 18th
  • The 2020 Time Zone Challenge will begin on Sunday December 20th at 12:00 AM Eastern Time

  • Prize donations are currently being accepted.  Prizes are a fun way to encourage and reward contest participants or pass on old or unused hardware to reward a fellow folder.  Members of EVGA's folding team have a history of generous donations to folding contests - let’s keep that tradition alive!

  • Thanks once again to drougnor the stats PIMP for providing us with detailed hourly stats updates!

I will probably be back up and folding soon, but I worry with all of the talks about servers being down, if the folding teams will be able to produce work units for us.

Currently not having any problems getting work and hopefully that was a temporary problem that took a bit of time to fix during the holiday.

Troy, I have a corsair tx650 if you need it.

about time
can anyone give figures for a 2080ti folding
(3930k - with a rtx2080ti) and this rig is dying a slow death as well - lost onboard lan and 1 usb port

i still like to get my 2nd rig in the fight - i retired one with the two  gtx780 hydrocoppers in it
the new one i mean - still waiting on parts... trying to get a 3000 series (i mean 3090) is rough
i put a older card in it for now.... had some 670's still lying around

like to see what a 18 core 10980xe overclocked will do on cpu wu's as well
i haven't even put a stable overclock on it yet - still configuring it and having to deal with cable management everytime something comes in (expensive xmas gift)
had to do it a 3930k is like 8yrs old???? how long do you think they will both last??? (That's both 3930k rigs)

I might get lucky and my friend gets his rtx3080(and I install it) and I get it for awhile during the contest - but most likely it will not be the case
he's like 500 miles away from where I live (tech incompetent - so i do the install)

so before i sign up can anyone give me some insight on what id be folding on
2080ti
10980xe
3080
3090

just in case

ps if I blow up the 3930k - i can maybe splurge for a new second rig...lol

oh i plan to post pics soon hopefully.....
my GOD i have a lot of RGB in it and a roku 55 TV for it

I am running a 2080ti on Linux with about 4.7 million PPD. Same rig also has a 2080S at about 3.6 million PPD. These are my newer numbers since they have been running as CUDA. The current units that are running look to be smaller than normal so they aren’t quite hitting that but on average over several days the above are correct.

Nah, no cave theft from anyone quite like that - The Stat-cave is hidden deep beneath the 'Spurious Correlations' Headquarters, borrowing from their natural affinity for the collection and crunching of numbers most people just ignore.

So far, in these well air conditioned recesses, the wildlife has been sparse . . . Apparently my previous bug smashing sprees have cleared out the food sources for any larger critters. *laughs*  I'll keep you updated if I suddenly gain any neighbors, winged or otherwise.

I read that google list .... 2.4 M PPD on a 2080Ti ???? -- Not with the Current CUDA - WU -- Or they are doing it wrong

2080Ti - 3.6 to 4.2 Million PPD --> is a more accurate output (sometimes even better)

No you should not do that, the Rules state you Must Own the hardware you use in the contest

Contest Rules

Eligible Hardware:
  • Any hardware you fold on for the contest must be personally owned by you.
  • Adding additional hardware that you own (especially if you will fold on it full time) is both permitted and encouraged.

One thing to note:  This event almost exactly overlaps a PrimeGrid cunching event that utilizes GPUs for the tasks.

In my limited observation there is pretty much always at least one crunching event going on at any given time.  Its unfortunate that the TZC coincides with PrimeGrid, but at this point there really isn't any other time we get schedule it and still fit it into 2020.

I mainly mentioned it because some people like to participate in both and would need to manage their resources or choose one event.
People splitting resources may estimate lower PPD than what they usually produce...i know sandbagging always comes up either jokingly or otherwise.

I usually try to participate in both or start strong on the TZC and then turn some hardware over to crunching.

As always, thank you for your efforts troy8d!

Hoping the 3080 comes back in stock at EVGA.com, unfortunately I can't make the next jump without those awesome folding bucks! But I'm definitely in with my 1080 for the TZC. Debating throwing an old 660  at the challenge too, I have 2 extra slots available, but the PPD/W seems horrid...

Maybe not total points, but PPD is in the same ballpark compared to the big big boys!  Either way fold 'em if you got 'em

Re: 2020 Time Zone Challenge 2020/12/03 20:51:19 (permalink)
Man, I'm signing up at about a 2-3 million ppd handicap because of a dying boot drive of all things.  BUT it's keeping the stats running as LONG as I don't fold, so I'm gonna run it until it won't run anymore.  (No worries yet, I do have the stats system mirrored on my main folding/daily driver rig).

So, as long as the SERVERS play right, I'll be sailing along at about 5 million ppd.  Unless someone wants to gift a pimp with a 30xx class . . . ;-)

Speaking of the stats, things are looking good on the 'infrastructure' side of things.  I only had to update one step and that was because Microsoft's built in FTP no longer works with my host's FTP by default, so I had to upgrade to another cmd line friendly FTP app to plug into my system.  Nothing broken YET on the Google side of things.

according to that google spreadsheet list out there, I am supposed to get my 3080 FTW3 Ultra email notification the 17th, so I might have a 3080 to throw at this, on top of what I already have.

Folding equipment - 3080 FTW3, 2070, 1660S, 1060 6G, 1050ti, 980 - All EVGA

Looking forward to the Eastern team winning again.

Starts Dec 20, what date, or how many points to the end?
