knightsilver Most rings have a break-in period and will leak/smoke for the first few 100's miles. You know how the cylinder walls look?
that parts fine the shop is worried about rear crank area for the line bore or what ever it called to make sure it straight the leak is at the area rear main /oil pan only does it when nice and warmed up

no not really but that why I paid for the pro to handle the main part of doing it right the first time as nick it better have not been cause the speed shop assembled the motor my mechanic who works on old cars only specializes in them only and takes great caution when caring for them Line boring is the machining process that corrects the main line of the block . best defination I can find for what needs to be done which could be the issue I having I told the speed shop from day one when the the leak happen any how I seriously thinking of calling quit on the car id rather pay off debt and buy a new car than deal with new blue print motor crate engine 331 or 347 is all I can find if I am lucky to get it in stock any where from 3k to 10k just for motor which sucks local auto stores cant get any rebuilt block engine due to manufacture getting no cores and 6 month to a year waiting list.

motor coming out going to shop so they align bore to make sure it blue printed properly and no leaks on the plus side I ordered edlebrock 21213 intake manifold in black 4bbl with this nice new efi set with sump from fi tech http://fitechefi.com/default.asp.pg-GoStreetEFI so this little 289 will be fuel injection self learning street running fun I hope

$800, thats seems like a great price for what your getting. Did you have to buy the fuel manifold separate? Looks like it'd pay for its self pretty quick. Id be kind of pzz with that shop about ur shortblock? Edit: Since ur doing EFI, Id go with a crate 331 if you can find one at a good cost. Edit2: Wonder how well this throttlebody EI would would with a high stall single turbo.

Id be kind of pzz with that shop about ur shortblock? yes I am but the owner wants to make it right period as he had a bad employee period. I also told him it too hard to find the older 289 period and cant afford to have a screw job so he eating majority of cost I only have to 200 to 300 for the alignment job only he will be over seeing to ensure it good period. 1. hope is does pay for it self just have to run a vent hose line for the efi setup only to tank in rear less than $50.00 and my labor of routing. the manifold I had to get separately but it the only do to them fitech not having the 2bbl version ready of the efi the tech explained it get put on back burner. I would have saved ton of money with that one. 2. edit 1:didn't find any crate engine but will be looking at a complete 302 with 3 speed I found later in the week it a 1969 and it will be rebuilt as 306 or 331 is exactly what I was thinking. then 289 get put in a special test stand to preserve it period and keep it running. edit number 2: http://fitechefi.com/default.asp.pg-MediaVideos I hope that the top video help also check out their products. this one http://fitechefi.com/default.asp.pg-GoEFISystem8-InjectorKit which handles nitrous and turbo http://fitechefi.com/default.asp.pg-GoEFISystemThrottleBodies the 2bbl are at the bottom not out yet

bill1024 If it were me and I was thinking of going 331 with a turbo, I would go for an after market block. Say a Dart, or a Boss block for that kind of HP Or even maybe a 351 based motor stroked out to 383, 408, 427 and keep it NA. Turbo 351 would be a lot of fun too. Also a 5 speed TKO or T56 to handle that HP This guy has a great reputation for building Ford stroker motors http://fordstrokers.com/
right now just finding a crate engine is way to hard in fl and even summit is having issues as for t5 it on my list to do later down the line 306 or 331 stroker for daily driver is all I need not a drag street car

how I feel today is good after a small dry fire test on the 1971 302 I bought just to see if was gonna start which it did so I replace front main seal and put on a 65 mustang front timing cover it will be installed in the car by the weekend and the 289 get pulled to go to shop for the service it needs . this temp motor was strong so after my 289 is back I will be getting this 302 rebuilt as a stroker so 200.00 with a 3speed manual trans for a 68 ford f100 not bad for a old motor now to sell that 1968 ford f100 or bronco rat g1 ford 3 speed transmission cheap 3.03 ratio

Sorry to hear all the stuff you have been going through. In the end it should be quite a bit of fun. I like the EFI kit you have. Cars are always a money pit. I had to sell my toys many years ago..
