Saw this when I was 7-8, on a dark and stormy night all alone,  scared the crap out of me, living in the country.

But also made me love all creature horror movies, now, especially werewolf flicks.

But now nothing phases me.

edit:  for a game.

+1  for Doom 3, when it came out, alone at night.
also Dead Space.

Great movie!! I remember the first time I seen this movie... I thought the first transformation scene was one of the best scenes ever in a Creature Feature... A+

I'll say when I was kid it was the Exorcist. I was around 12 and snuck into the living rm where my mom was watching it on HBO. I can in on the part when she was bouncing up and down on the bed and she rose up and her head spun around and talked in that devil voice. I ran into my room. I was scare for a week. That next day I came home from school and sat on the couch until my mom can home. I didn't mom an inch. Didn't turn the lights, tv or anything on. I was scared ****less.

There were 2 scary movies that were really good and scary. The first of course was "The Exorcist". The second one, which many of you may not remember or know about was "Motel Hell". Was funny, yet was scary.

The Exorcist was the only movie that scared me when I was young.  The thought of demonic possession is the most vile and disturbing thing I can imagine.

Paranormal Activity was pretty disturbing too, for similar reasons.

Those are the only two movies that have ever truly bothered me, but The Exorcist was way worse - probably because of my age when I watched it.

If anyone wants to be very disturbed by a movie and have already seen eraserhead I advice Inland Empire, it's made by the same director and is about 4 hours long. Me and my friend started it off and were like ok we can follow this plot line. An hour or two into the movie we started looking at each other going ****! About 75% into it we were beyond a condition for words and were barely hanging on. As the last words in the movie were spoken and the credits started to roll we were thanking God that it was over and neither one of us has seen it again since.

I have yet to be able to sit through Arachnophobia, when I was 8 I had an uncle die from a black widow spider, he was old, at his funeral, another uncle told me that if I got any of the embalming fluid on me I would die. about a week later I ran across something called a pack saddle, that made my arm swell, and hurt like hell,  i know the movie is chesey, but I can't watch it, I walked out of the theater. Nothing bothers me like spiders.

The original Alien got me.  Once that first pod thing jumped on the guy's face I spent the rest of the movie literally on the edge of my seat.  And waaayyyyy back when, I saw "War of the Worlds" when I was about 6.  Scared the crap out of me.

Oh I forgot to mention this, but I played HL2 (in the dark by myself, of course) a few years ago. It didn't scare me, but after I had played through it a few times, I started get paranoid of the freaking head crabs. Especially the black ones, and the zombie peeps that ran around with a head full of the crabs to toss at you.

When I was a kid I was terrified of "The Amityville Horror".... and the witch in "The Wizard of Oz". LOL

As an adult, the only movie that comes to mind is "Se7en".  I saw it in the theater when it was new and had nightmares for weeks, I'd never watch it again.

No movie has ever scared me, but a game has. I played Doom 3 in the dark by myself when I was 11 or 12, and it was the only time I've ever had a nightmare.

Not that a gamed scared me, but I played Clive Barker's Jericho for 2 days straight until the point of exhaustion, and I had nightmares.  I think since Left 4 Dead came out... I have had more and more Zombie nightmares.  Thank god I am always armed in my dream, and I can pick a head shot off from 50 yards.

Re:did any horror movie ever scare you 2010/03/01 14:17:34 (permalink)
Well, umm, i'm human, so of course i jump at loud noises and shocking images after a build-up of grinding music. I guess scared is a case of definition.

I do remember being a kid and watching some short film where the concept was basically classic "changelings" - people you know and love come back different. The film itself wasn't scary as i didn't give a crap about the characters in it - they were poorly portrayed stereotypes - but the concept itself really freaked me out. My mind was at a point where i was defining the world around me as a scientific reality, constantly trying to figure out how things work etc, things normally taken for granted (e.g: answering why the sky is blue). People and personalities never quite fit into a purely scientifically explained world: Phineas Gage, PTSD, Schizophrenia etc - people can change beyond recognition. So what if some day someone close to me comes back different from something? Yeah, i was kinda spooked and the film triggered it, guess it counts!

As an adult, i consider getting scared by a movie a privilege. I can choose to distance myself from what i watch, but if i try to really get emerged and with proper home theater sound and a dark room - it's quite the ride unless the production value is too poor. The only really good one that has worked was Sixth Sense, i had no problem accepting the premise of the story, it doesn't matter if what he's seeing is real or just delusions - to him it's real. We've all dreamed dreams that seemed real.

Oh wait! That Nicole Kidman movie worked as well, what was it called? The Others or something. Sadly i was too young when i saw the true classics like The Shining, JAWS etc - sure i was scared, but it was more like the "i don't want to watch this! wait, just a little more" kind of scared.

you should see the movie Ils, known in the US as "them". When I saw the strangers I felt it was somehow inspired by that movie but a little bit different story.

Paranormal Activity was one of the few movies that has really made me think twice about noises in my apartment at night.  Its been a LONG time since a movie really scared me, but if you watch this movie in the right environment (dark room, at night, good sound system) its pretty disturbing.  Like garnetandblack said  before, demon possesion has always been kinda freaky to me just because it has that supernatural/could-be-real effect.

I cant believe no one has mentioned "Even Horizon"  I don't know what it was, but that movie bothered me.  I can't say that I was scared, but I left that theater with a weird feeling.

The fourth kind scared me a lot. The movie itself wasn't that well put together but the footage and the alien voice in the recorder gave me goosebumps. I had a hard time sleeping that night. I thought it was scary when the voice was being translated and it was like comparing itself to god. Now that really scared me, because I have heard from so many different people that mankind was engineered by aliens so if that were true it would only make sense for them to be our gods. If I didn't believe in aliens so much it probably wouldn't have effected me at all.  Signs also scared the crap out of me, even though that movie has a lot of problems with the plot.

Was woken up randomly the night after I watched it at around 2:30, looked out the window and was glad to see no owl. Freaked me out that it happened though lol.
