I have my EK block coming in a couple days! Since it's my first time doing a GPU block install, is there any specific advice or things to watch out for with this specific EK Block for the FTW3? Thanks!

Take you time taking the PCB off the stock cooler and removing the backplate - going to require a firm but gentle hand (depending on how dry pads and paste are)

The rest is easy - clean it up with q-tip and 99% alcohol; place thermal pads and paste as directed ... that’s it.

Once you have the PCB off the stock equipment you’ll be rolling - just take your time ... it seems more daunting than it actually is.

I just used some good sharp scissors.

Dumb question, but I assume it comes in one big sheet? So does EK give you the width of each piece you need to cut? Do they give you enough to make a mistake? Thanks!

Their size is like a stick of gum - to be honest they don’t provide a lot of extra but you can’t really mess it up

You’re thinking about it too much - trust me; once you get started; you’ll be fine.

Sounds good! Yeah without having it in hand, I'm talking it up haha. Same was true when I did my hardline. It wasn't a breeze, but it wasn't nearly as hard as I expected it to be!

I took a look at the gamer's nexus tear down video, couple questions that's not really explicitly addressed in the EK instructions. On the backside of the card, where the backplate sits, I assume you had to remove the metal bracket? (Yellow Circle). What about the LED module (Red Circle) did you take that off, or just unplug it?

Do not remove the LED module.

I didn’t unplug it either.

I ordered my EKWB FTW3 block back in early December. It was supposed to come in mid-early january. It didn't happen and people who ordered after me were getting theres, so I messaged them. They said it was a mistake and would ship for the end of january. No show. Emailed them again and it went to early Feb, then to mid feb, now they're saying end of feb-early march.

I give up. Whatever you do, don't expect it to come anytime soon. Everyone and anyone is sold out.

As for performance, I've always had pretty even gains regardless of if it's an EVGA block or aftermarket. Definitely invest in better thermal pads for everything, however. The included ones are awful.

Has anyone here used Primochill's block for the 3090 FTW3 Ultra? Also, I just saw the XC3 Heatkiller block is now available.

I ordered at the same time and decided to go with the Optimus block and get a KP too.  I went to EK to cancel my order and their site showed a mid april delivery date?!?!  Anyway they apologized and canceled my order.

Oh a positive note, someone else who ordered in Dec said he last had a March delivery date and got his block last week out of the blue.  So you never know.

People who ordered one of the backplate styles had their orders delayed due to limited parts availability.  What backplate did you order?

Installed my EK block tonight on 3090ftw3 and temps are really bad rocketing into the 80s on the standard bios on flight sim, have removed and refitted it again removed thermal paste re-applied, at a loss at the moment something is a miss!!., historically used Aquacomputer blocks but their's is late coming so picked up what I could get my hands on..

How did you apply the thermal paste and how was the spread when you took the block off?

Also, do you have pictures of your loop?

Agreed those temps are bad. I installed mine at the weekend. Temps don't go above 38 with cpu on the same block.

Did you add all the thermal pads and also use the right screws?

I'll try to take some snaps,

Used correct screws and pads, ill rip it again for a 3rd time later and take some snaps of the thermal compound spread. and send a couple of snaps of the loop. not sure why, idle temps are ofc fine just rockets on load.

Somehow I ended up with a second black backplate from EK.  If anyone is stuck on that part, let me know.  I have zero use for it so I will part with just the cost of shipping.

Images attached of block separation. + machining of block, re fitted again after shaving coating of 2 of the mounts as it appeared high sided, still temps ramping like crazy under load.

Performance PCs has 8 of "EK-Quantum Vector FTW3 RTX 3080/3090 D-RGB - Nickel + Plexi" in stock as of this post.  Not my first choice but I am tired of waiting on Watercool or Aquacomputer.  I will still buy one of those if they're ever available but this will do for now.

Im hunting around for something else as this is really poor like so poor compared to the aquacomputer blocks and alpha blocks I've had in the past.

I get it.  Like I said ekwb is never my first choice but my two preferred sources haven't released a FTW3 block.  I've got some other upgrades to do and wanted to wait for a waterblock so I can drain and tear down my loop once but I'm too impatient.  EKWB is to watercooling what Budweiser is to beer in my opinion but sometimes you have to drink what's available.

Yes you remove the bracket before putting on the backplate. The block is fixed with M2.5 screws only. I left the LED module plugged in.

I will do it if no one else does before I get mine.  Tracking says tomorrow but I have doubts.

Anyone has experience using 3080 FTW3 EK block, how is temperatures and other variables, mounting etc. ? I know Optimus is good, but for me tax/customs is a no go.
Thanks in advance!
