Anyone else got their pad request approved?

Oh and for the record, while I believe that the cards are operating within safe tolerances for most people's usage scenarios, I personally task my card with almost 24/7 work, and prefer a quieter fan profile since the computer is in the same room I sleep in.

Rather than stand there arguing about application for approval, should require a more effective solution that enhances our product resale, not this crude amendment of EVGA.

Will the thermal pads be shipped worldwide ?
I live in Brazil, I ordered the pads 25/10, still awaiting approval.
Thanks.

I am using the secondary BIOS (with the higher 130% power limit) with my 1080 FTW so I am wondering if this new BIOS will have this same power limit or if it will just be set to a 120% limit like the standard/main BIOS?

Bios will. Maintain all settings, but have higher fan speeds. Primary bios will have the same targets as before, and so will the secondary bios (if the release two separate bios, since the slave bios already has a higher fan speed).

Also, another quick question. Do you receive an email when your thermal pad request is approved?

Just check the thermal pad mod page, as the email may be slightly delayed as they try to focus on getting the pads out. It should update as they answer requests.

Re: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080/1070 PWM Operating Temperature Update 2016/11/02 20:55:28 (permalink)
Before I start, I would like to apologize if my post sounds like a flame post to some of y’all. I just would like to take the opportunity to voice out my concerns as a new owner of GTX 1070 FTW.

I am from Malaysia whereby EVGA does not have an official presence over here however this brand has a certain appeal in the market being rare and generally perceived higher quality compared to regional brands based within fellow Asian countries no thanks to multiple positive reviews via reputable sites and youtube reviewers.

Here I am after receiving a paltry one-month worth of job bonus totaled to RM 4,000. I have decided to upgrade my existing PC and decided to get myself a GTX 1070 FTW from Amazon US (after conversion it cost me RM 2300, which to me was a rather huge savings compared to the local price of RM 2600. The RM 300 savings would allow me to procure a decent EVGA 500B PSU to tie me up for the time being.

I have to say that the experience of getting an EVGA card has nothing but a disappointing one. I am not entitled to the Powerlink promo, not entitled for the Gear of War 4 code giveaway. Being a ham-handed fella, I have asked my local IT online forum members whether anyone is willing to assist in helping to apply the said cooling pads (if I can get my hands on, fingers crossed) and none of them are willing as to avoid any negative repercussion stemming from the DIY MOD. The subsequent alternative was to send over to EVGA’s Technical offices in Taiwan for the RMA exchange and postage alone will cost me approx. RM 200

This is as opposed to my experience I had assisting my office colleague in his Polaris card from a certain Taiwanese brand with a penchant for gaudy dragon images on their gaming range products. (I did not buy that brand because initially I still don't wish to make my system internals to look like a disco-fied Chinese restaurant, and yes I am Chinese for the record). This brand was actually very helpful in situations such as bricked cards due to crappy BIOS mods, willing to accept RMA after my colleague unscrewed the backplate, etc). This company may not have all the bells and whistles of free gifts, step up programs etc but to me a simple personalized call with a supporting follow-up email really sealed the deal for me for my next upgrade in the near future (since this company has products for Nvidia cards too).

I am not here to ask for full refund neither for a free, all cost bearing RMA program, but I just humbly appeal the corporate heads to consider having a regional technical office either in Malaysia or even Singapore to serve the greater part of South East Asian countries and also to have the step up program extended to our end also not just limited to luxury confines of certain Western Hemisphere countries at the very least in the foreseeable future. With the current situation in hand, I am anticipating a rather huge cut down in resell prices for my card in the foreseeable future should I decide to upgrade to a better card.
These are my rant after blowing 65% of my monthly salary (which is the same of amount of my received bonus) on a GPU which I had high hopes for but just gave me concerns and trepidation time and again after receiving it within less than a month.

Thank you for reading.

Doing this is not going to effect your warranty. Evga does not void warranties for removing coolers. They never have and they probably never will void a warranty because of removing the cooler.

Replacing everything is extremely easy. It take less than an hour, and gamer nexus website just posted a video with step by step instruction on what do to.

I have a 1070 SC black with the fancy cooler and no back plate.
Are there any comparisons of temps with and without backplates? I think in the absense of thermal pads (stock) the backplate could make temps higher, but all the cards I have seen numbers for have backplates.

The fame nexus link in post two shows a card with no backplate as their very first comparison. The one that says "1440 fan speed, no thermal pad mod"

Later, it shows a card with a backplate, which looks completely different.

Reading the article, I think the first pics are just close-ups . It says they are FTW cards. I thought all FTW cards had back plates?

I have Dual GTX 1080 SC Cards so I have double the worry now even though I have direct connected sensors to the VRMs to monitor them on my cards and anything approaching 80+ Degrees I activate the side panel 200mm FAN on my chassis.

The irritation is that I applied for the thermal pads the day they announced and released the link, and it is still pending approval. It is going into our summer here in South Africa and the outside air temps are breaking close to 40 Degrees in Johannesburg so either EVGA has to make this happen faster or I will have to just buy my own thermal pads and import them.

Like the "Free" powerlinks I am sure they are going to expect us to pay shipping for their obvious misstep....

I'm In jhb as well but have air-con. I just want the size and thickness of the pads evga are giving, then we can source them locally or import our own to make it quicker.

This is a small, marginal problem, from EVGA. I own a case, Classified motherboard, and 2 GTX 1080's, and the T2 1600w PSU from EVGA plus kits from them. I continue to trust the company to make superior products in the PC market and stand by their commitments to excellence. Even now, with a marginal issue that would only be experienced by a select few that push the cards to extreme benchmarks, EVGA has promptly diagnosed the problem and implemented a range of fixes including a patch and hardware kits to satisfy all users unlike other companies like one who was trying to cover up their exploding phones...EVGA has been up front and on top of the issue. And I wouldn't trade any of my EVGA hardware for anything else from any other supplier.

I am not an employee nor do I have any relatives working for the company in the past or present. These statements are of my own volition.

Ordered the pads, because why not, although I'm not sure how comfortable I am with it or if I really need 'em.

Whenever I get around to doing the mod, would covering the white-LEDs with blue-transparent tape void my warranty? Would seem to be the easy way to cover the back LEDs. (I was too cheap to order a 1070 FTW mostly for the LED colour lol)

Nop, 5 days and still awaiting approval. From EVGA's comments here and there I deducted that shipping hasn't started yet because they are still on the bulk-to-distributor phase, so there will be some time before shipping starts, specially in Europe I would guess.

Re: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080/1070 PWM Operating Temperature Update 2016/11/03 00:08:35 (permalink)
Gawg36
This is starting to look bad. There are lots of questions due to EVGAs mistake that EVGA ignore.  personally I want to know why my pads need approval to send, that what it says. I have done everything right (card registered, reciept sent everything possible). There is no info or ETA of them either.

Scarlet tech is doing a really good job, but he is a forum moderator. Why is there so little feedback from company reps, Jacob included. At first it went well, I mean I was fairly pleased with the ease of ordering. On October 25th. A week later and they are awaiting approval!! This really is a step backward. In the meantime this bios fan adjustment just appeared. Sure it's a good thing, but wasn't handled well.

I feel EVGA have to a degree had enough and are abandoning customers issues. As said Scarlet is doing the best he can, kudos to him. But many of these things need direct answers from the company themselves.

I have no issue flashing a bios or putting in the thermal pads. It's an easy  procedure. But I find the lack of information about when we can do these things to be getting really sloppy. Not something I would have ever expected to say about EVGA. Takes a long time to build a top reputation for customer service, and EVGA have deserved it. If EVGA don't start properly addressing our questions customers are going to start getting angry (many already are). It's still relatively early days, but time is passing and nothing much is happening. Losing a reputation for outstanding customer service can be wiped out with one incident, if people feel they have been shafted. EVGA need to address this quickly, answer our questions, be transparant and honest. That's what upsets me. Free pads - great! A week later in approval process, not even sent yet. That is not acceptable! NO explanation either. Annoying.

I am also rapidly approaching a complete breakdown of trust due to the lack of transparency. If this isn't dealt with soon I will very sadly join the others who never buy EVGA again.
This is a kind of real life test. Sending out pads, making new Bios available are great. But it counts for nothing if it's delayed and delayed again. Also people need their questions answered.
Seeing as this whole screw up is the fault, totally of EVGAs making I'm starting to get pretty shocked at the lack of interest or urgency, lack of solid info, questions unanswered.

Really, it's starting to look very sloppy. A shame because this could and should have been dealt with quickly, efficiently and with full transparency. This is currently NOT the case.

A bit more info on the new fan curve please. I hope it is not louder under normal gaming. 2200rpm is not acceptable for normal use.

The videos seem to show around 1900 rpm under furmark which seems well blow the 2200 rpm mentioned in the link.
