Yeah, I absolutely know what you mean. I was convinced it would be another couple of months from 3/10 to 5/10. It can be a blessing or a torture not knowing the queue’s actual speed. Depends on your expectations, I think.
But fingers crossed for you it will be next week ;)

We're on the 6th already? Very nice! I'm afraid this pace will make me feel too optimistic, only to run into a wall
face first and then have to wait another 9 months or get an email saying they cancelled everything. 🙈

I haven't seen anything from
  1. AndyJG70
  2. dazzysima
  3. Mettkrieger
and don't know if that was a hiccup again or if they've advanced as well. If they have, the rest of October doesn't look so bad.

Yeah it looks like it's going faster now.
Maybe most people registered for step-up at the very beginning in September and there are a lot less people per day in October.
Or maybe EVGA was only attributing a small portion of their 3080 to the step up queue because it's more interesting for them to sell them at full price, but now that the new 12GB version has been announced they focus on selling those at full price and they're attributing more of the 10GB models to the step up queue.

This.
Can't be a coincidence the queue is speeding up exactly when the 12GB models are available (which cost like 400€ more excl. VAT).
Even it won't affect me anymore I'm curious how long they will have the 10GB models available for the queue and, more interesting, what will happen when they're out.
Cancel the step up? Force the left people in the queue to step up to the 12GB (and pay much more they originally would have to)?
Just can't believe NVIDIA will still produce the chips for the 10GB model as it would make no sense business wise.

The 12GB model also has more cores. I wouldn't be surprised if they keep shipping the 10GB with the GA102 chips that have a small defect and can't have as many cores running.

3090, 3080Ti, 3080 12GB and 3080 10GB are all based on the (same?) GA102 AFAIK. The rest boils down to the
quality of the chip. It would be a hell of a waste to just drop those not passing QC into the 3070 range when they're
good enough to be sold at the 3080 price point.

My bad, sorry for the misleading formulation. What I meant is that NVIDIA won't ship out the GA102 chips configured (shader wise etc.) for the 10GB models (which would be GA102-200-Kx).

That's quite possible and would be nice for the guys still in the queue.

I really hope that EVGA will address all remaining 3080 EU step up fast now. In a week, they may have sent more step up notifications than in six months last year, so it's on good way. : )

But I really understand when some of you are trying to put their hopes as low as possible. To be honest, when I saw that I was put aside of the queue, with people registered after me notified for step 2, I really thought that I was doomed. I already considered it would take another 2 or 3 months before next drop, if by any chance 3080 10GB would still be available by then, and I wasn't even sure I would be notified, if ever, as I suspected something was going wrong for EVGA not following queue line...

In the end, it still resolved on the 2nd drop of the week, I'm relived. But I'm still fingers crossed for you guys! : )

So I finally reached step 4 !
A few questions regarding sending my old card back :
  • It says in the e-mail that they recommend UPS, FedeX and DHL. Only UPS is practical for me, and from France it will cost me over 50€ just to send the card back. I could also use a local service (Chronopost) that would cost me about 20€, do you guys think it would work or should I really stick to UPS ? I mean I'm already paying more for the step up than what was agreed on 15 months ago, I don't really want to pay that much for shipping.
  • If I decide to use UPS, the form insist on having a phone number for the recipient. Do I just put the EVGA customer service phone number ?
Thanks !

That's quite a price difference. Are Chronopost packages generally insured, insured for the right amount in case the GPU does get lost on the way?

I'd use the regular number listed here as well. https://www.evga.com/about/ContactUs/

That's the most important part - aswell for their recommendations.
I think it doesn't matter which service you are using, as long as their insurance is high enough for the value of your card.

I shipped my 2080S today with DHL (within Germany) and had to pay 6€ on top to raise the insurance value from 500€ to 2500€.

I think I've ballsed up the shipping, I have no idea how to get to my customs invoice to print and include with the shipping, and it's due to be collected in the morning.

If anyone here has used UPS from UK, any help appreciated!

I have a package here with a shipping label atteched but no customs paperwork.

I did choose a carbon neutral shipment, so perhaps the customs forms are electronic? Will speak to the UPS guy whe  he arrives, see if he can offer any advice.

My card arrived yesterday, sorry for not posting an update here.
I was too busy dealing with fitting this monster into my case and some issues I encountered.
I had black screen flickers, weird stripes over the whole display etc., but after some research it turns out I just completely forgot to get a HDMI 2.1 cable for my LG CX.
Worked around this for now by setting the color depth to 8 bit instead of 10 so that 4K@120Hz is still possible without flickering.

Yep, you don't have to do anything if they already have your invoice. They send you the Step 3 mail as soon as they checked your invoice and calculated your step up costs. Should be ready later today ;)
