I am using 285.66 version. So I used Ccleaner and deleted the above entries. It stated just the entry only was deleted from the control panel. Then in control panel I deleted the graphics driver and as it was deleting (progress bar) the screen went black. Tried to reboot but it was just black. Kinda freaked out and put the Windows disc in and was able to boot from a restore point which was just done 2 minutes ago. I have no idea what to do. Again both of the above apps are still there and will not delete. Thanks EDIT: I am the primary but I did not set up a password at the os install.

Yeah, somethings not right.. What driver version are you trying to install? -if- its a later version (higher number) you might want to just run the installer in CUSTOM mode (as noted in the guide) and be sure to check the CLEAN install box. PS: its never a good idea to run registry cleaners until ALL other options have been used, as doing so can create issues that cannot be fixed. Only when your confronting a full reformat and OS reinstall, should a registry cleaner be used as a last ditch effort to avoid one.

Trying the 258.79 as you suggested. I tried installing it and it says it's not compatible with my version of windows and no video card detected.

Thats not right either Reboot and check your NVCP -and- Windows/Control panel and verify what driver you now have installed. Should be 285.66... *you must reboot to check this Then try again with 285.79, if that gives the same error message try 290.53 or 295.51

Welcome to Nvidia driver hell bro You may have to wait and see if Nvidia fixes these problems with the next driver. Until then, you could always try a OS reinstall and see if that fixes the uninstall issue -and- lets you install a new driverset. You are not alone, I myself am having serious issues and cannot get any of the newer driversets to work. I'm not having uninstall issues, but the newer drivers either wont allow SLI or will install correctly and enable SLI fine, and then completely fail to load the Nvidia driver on a reboot.

Man that's a bummer. I tried looking up info on this driver and it appears to be for the 448 cards. Why would they do this. This really sucks. With my current settings I thought for sure I could get better fps with a driver update. 3d mark11 was kinda low for sli setup. Well thanks for your help, i appreciate it.

dwendoggett Ta Da!!!! Since I'm either too stubborn to know when to quit or my mother didn't raise me right I just kept digging and am happy to report that I resolved the problem and am now running 285.62 drivers with my new 440. The solution: Since it was bombing when trying to delete some files that weren't there I simply went into the nv_disp file in the Display.Driver folder of the installation files and removed the entries for deletion for each of the files it was bombing on. I had to do this as well to each of the NVxx filenames. Same deletions in each file. Then I ran the installation again and it worked fine. No problems at all. Is this the ideal way to resolve this? Probably not. Did it work? Hell Yes!! After all the hours spent on this problem I'll take it any way I can get it. Thanks to everyone who suffered through this problem before I came along. All of your posts helped me research through my own problem. Thanks again. Wow - that's incredible that you got it working! Bravo!!! So, they steps are to run the large install file from the command line in a fashion where it just unpacks the files, go in an modify the script that tells it to try to delete files that aren't there (why in the world would that cause it to fail?), and then it works? What really bothers me is that I spent hours with evga 'tech support', and they didn't even know there was a log file created during the install. They are clueless - I had to tell them that PhysX doesn't install in safe mode (and they tried to get me to use device manager to update the drivers, no way!!!). To provide 'support' that will damage your computer - and waste your time is worse than not providing support at all. BTW - I also found out with some searching that there are specific steps (out lined here in providing driver feedback a few pages down http://forums.nvidia.com/.dex.php?showtopic=221985 ) that nVidia requires to get feedback so this INSANITY DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN!!! I suggest that all involved provide this feedback to nVidia. I'm not so sure about dealing with evga at all now, I'd assumed since this is what they do in life, that they would be competent at fixing issues and have more pull than I would with nVidia, but ... Onwards ... thru the fog!!!

To be fair, Nvidia has been making alot of very dramatic and hidden changes to their driver/installer package. Alot of what these changes are and how they work are completely unknown to everyone (users and vendors), but Nvidia... And given the current issues, it looks as though Nvidia "B" team doesnt really understand them either, even though they wrote them. It appears we will have to suffer through a period (prior to 600 series release) where driver quality really takes a nose dive, while the "A" driver team at Nvidia is working on the 600 drivers... One can only hope that the "A" teams efforts will pay off and the 600 series release drivers will get Nvidia drivers back on track.

Excellent guide, nicely detailed for both new and experienced alike. Been updating drivers since installing my very first graphics card...the Diamond Monster 3D, but thought it wouldn't hurt to read through your guide, on the off chance I might actually learn something. I have been recently, (relatively), updating my drivers almost exactly as you've detailed, with just a few differences that I'll be changing as per your guide. Didn't even cross my mind to disable xfire and Steam's 'run when window's starts' checkboxes, or delete the old unpacked drivers from the C:\Nvidia directory (although I had been deleting the contents from time to time during routine drive maintenance, just not before every display driver update). Nor have I ever run the file from the desktop; always just downloaded the file to C:Nvidia Drivers and ran it from there. Although I rarely experience major graphical issues, a glitch here and there (e.g. a weird texture or two in BF3 on a couple occasions for the map duration, specifically Operation Firestorm, about 30 minutes of screwy graphics in ~165 hours played with no problems). Of course that may have been BF3 itself and not my GTX570. Regardless, I'll keep those extra steps in mind, as they definitely can't hurt, and may possibly prevent some issue from occurring in the future.

My system has this driver install problem since last year(256.xx). I just found "chrisrowan" of Nvidia fourm found a way to fix "Nvidia Installer Failed", and it works on my system. Using PsExec to run the setup without any problem. Now I finally am able to updated to new driverset. http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=202626&st=20

Thats a very interesting read, and certainly something that users who experience Nvidia installer failure should be interested in trying out (after all else has failed). While I have not experienced this, I do run a dual OS config with my SSD's "temp" folder moved to a storage drive. I guess I was lucky... Thank you very much for posting this information here for others to benefit from

Unfortunately, I tried it (after un-install and driverSweeper) and nothing has changed. I can install 270.61, the driver works, but the control panel will not come up when I try to run it. Are there registry entries to change the control panel settings? Maybe I can limp by with setting them by hand?

I have a small (120gb) ssd so I wanted to limit that drive for only what I needed on there. Would it help to try to repair windows or to just do a complete install. Also I have noticed while installing other programs, sometimes they have path issues. My nvcp settings have been changing on every restart so I have to change them constantly. I think I may have moved over one to many folders than I should have.

Certainly sounds like you moved something incorrectly that should not have been.... The only recovery for that I know of, is deleteing the incorrect secondary folders and uninstalling anything that has -ever- given a path error, then a full OS reinstall. This is the SSD guide that I use http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82516 I have never had a single problem, path issue or any trouble of anykind using the above guide for my SSD

I got a response from EVGA, who relayed a response from nVidia. ----------------- Please have these guys run the driver store cleaning utility from Microsoft: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730875.aspx It is believed they have a corrupted or old install in the driver store. If this utility fails, there is nothing we can do they are going to have to reinstall windows because their driver store is corrupted. If it works and the driver is removed they should not have any install issues thereafter. ------------------ What I found was that my currently installed driver, 270.61, was the one that showed up when using that tech note. And when I un-installed the driver, the driver got deleted from the Driver Store (you can't delete an in-use driver using that tech note), so that was not the problem. I also figured out by chance, that my EVGA UV-19 (used for my 3rd monitor), was causing the nVidia control panel to fail to display for 270.61 (if I boot up without the UV-19 connected, I can view the nVidia control panel). So, my 270.61 got installed correctly, no Drive Store corruption existed. This leads me to believe that the WHQL drivers after 270.61 that completely failed to install at all, are due to nVidia installer issues. There is zero wrong with my computer which uses ECC for both system RAM and RAID RAM. I've seen other comments in other threads indicating that the installer changed after 270, so ... that seems to be the problem here. If you can't get your drivers to install at all, try the 270 installs, and complain strongly to nVidia, who seem to have written very clumsy installs (mine would always fail after the driver install, but during control panel install, leading me to believe that the driver was getting rolled back due to control panel install issues). You shouldn't have to re-format your computers for a problem that doesn't exist. Good luck!

I belive that for the 560Ti 448 cards, you must use a driver version -higher- than 285.88 (the 560Ti 448 release driver) This means that 285.79 is not going to install due to the .inf file contained in previous drivers. I suggest you try one of the below drivers The 295.51 driver is what I used for a recent 560Ti 488 BF3 build, its performance was excellent

Ok, after BF3 is done downloading then I will give it a shot. For now I just went with the cd driver which is the 285.66 version. I will report back with what I find. Also since I'm here, what are your thoughts on installing Windows 7 SP1? I have heard it go both ways. Terry

If you continue to have driver install issues with newer drivers, please report back What MB and chipset are you using? Did you install your MB/Chipset drivers off your MB disk, or are you using Windows defaults and Windows updates? Windows defaults/updates should never be used. After installing Windows (before using windows update), use your MB disk or download from your MB maker your latest MB/chipset drivers. *It is never recommended to let windows install hardware or optional updates. Do them yourself. As for SP1, I know of no reported issues whatsoever in BF3 with having it installed or not. Users choice there, SP1 has no effect on BF3 performance either way

I hope these new drivers will work for the EVGA 560Ti Classified. The WHQL version just came out recently.

Just out of curiosity, which of the current drivers would any of you say is the most stable for the GTX 200s? GTX 285s in SLI specifically. The 197.45 drivers aren't working so well for me anymore as many of my games are constantly being updated to work with newer hardware and drivers. Someone recommended 285.62 but I wanted to get a second opinion first. Thank you.

Since I dont have 200 series cards, my advice would be to post in the 200 series forums here at EVGA. The users there would have real feedback The most important thing (for driver feedback)when posting is to mention the games you are wanting to play. *As long as you uninstall your current drivers correctly, you can always try -any- driver showing support for your OS and GTX 285.
