Having some BF3 issues here.

When I'm killed the screen will go completely black like its lost signal, and takes a good 15secs before the image reappears.

When I select my load out and deploy once again it takes around 15secs or so before my screen would appear.

Thought at 1st it was the monitor (27Q Crossover) so I switched to my good old Asus VH242H and it does it with this one.

Thinking the DVI-D DL has gone bad so I switched out cables to another DVI-D DL and still the issue.

Thinking it might the drivers so went from 310.90 back to 306.97 and the issue is still there.

Didn't do it this morning when i was playing some BF3, I haven't changed any settings or added anything in respects to the hardware.  Just keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't the GPU as I don't want to go through the whole RMA process crap again.

So can anyone help on whats going?

Look over your task manager for something "extra" running....
Pay attention to anything which might display on-screen or in taskbar
Wouldn't hurt to look over your internet connection either

Checked everything and nothing seems out of place.

Went and switched the settings from its Ultra preset to high, back to ultra and VSync on and the issue went away...

hey there maniacvvv. Happy new year and I hope everything is going good for you and others. I just wanted to know if the newest beta driver, 310.90 is ok to use? And I also wanted to know what my max prerendered frames should be set at for battlefield 3. I don't know if people change it for personal preferences, I just want to know what is safe for me. Im running an EVGA gtx 580 classified 3gb. Here are some pics to show you my settings and to see if anything should be changed. Thank you. PLEASE! FEEL free to ask me any questions that you have.

I'm facing a weird problem here. I just installed BF3 on windows 8 (previously I was using Win 7).
Now I'm unable to select 60Hz refresh rate in game settings. Max available to me is 1920x1080@59.94, I know most of you will say that it is same as 60Hz but this causes black screen and delays when I alt+tab the game. Does anybody know a fix to solve this?

Rsolution: 1920x1080@60Hz
GPU: EVGA 660Ti SC
Drivers: 310.90
OS: Win 8

Since a patch in BF3, leaving the frame to render ahead setting at defaults is suggested.

Your NVCP settings look perfect

Hey thank you again for replying. So do you have any thoughts about the latest beta driver? should I keep away from it for now or just install it now.

I am currently using the 310.90 for BF3 on my GTX 580 SLI setup
I think its one of the very best BF3 drivers to date and I highly suggest that you try it out

Lose the overclocks on the videocards, memory is the worst offender... power target is fine.
With your config such overclocks are completely unneeded in BF3 and will only cause problems (like the error you are seeing)

What software are you using to monitor your cards, is this Percision/Afterbuner?
Are you using the OSD (on-screen, on-keyboard or in-taskbar) function?
*this can cause the error you are seeing. If so, uninstall Precison and answer NO when asked to save profile and data, then reboot once (dont skip the reboot) Now reinstall Precison and do NOT enable the OSD

The issue here is the OSD does NOT like when you run both BF3 AA settings together
*You really should pick ONE AA method, and turn the other OFF

Question: what cable are you connecting the monitor with?
-->should ONLY be a DVI-D (dual link) cable

I have to go to work, but I will be back here tonight and check this thread

Sorry AA method?

I am using PrecisionX and have never had the OSD option selected as I was aware of issues with it and BF3.

Yeah I am only using a DVI-D (dual link) cable.

I have now removed my gpu overclocks as well.

Thanks for the reply. But I'm also playing Far Cry III these days and it is working fine and I can minimize it without any lag/black screen.

Yes-->Far Cry should be much quicker
It does not have a webpage (Battlelog, along with whatever tabs, flash and other info) and a application (Origin) running on the desktop...
And BF3 is a older application that was never designed to run on Win8 in the first place

Hello everyone.  Hoping someone can help.  I've been having issues with the driver crashing and it's started with one of the updates to BF3 (think back in December or November).  I've been dealing with it until today as it just constantly crashes.  I though it may be a driver issue so I updated it to 310.70, but that did not solve the problem.  I recall no issues (even with the old drivers) until the BF3 updates though.  I may update to the 310.90 to see if that helps.  Any ideas?  Your thoughts

Thanks...Al

Do NOT put in 310.90!!
you are running 680's in SLI and that driver has a KNOWN SLI bug that is not patched yet
310.70 is just fine for now

Start Origin and go to MyGames
"right click" on the BF3 panel and choose "repair"
Dont do -anything- while it checks your files and fixes any errors.

Sounds like you picked up a error on the patch, a repair should fix you right up

Yeah, the bug does not hit everyone.
But if you get it, its a cold boot failure with code 43 on the cards and no driver loaded.

Too late I already loaded the drivers.  I played one round today without any issue and will give it a go again shortly.  How will I know if 310.90 is an issue?  Also, I did the repair thing and it found no errors.  I will keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks...Al

Edit:  Never mind.  I saw the warning on the Nvidia forum about this driver.  If the problem happens then I will know the cause and not freak out.

Update:  I uninstalled the 310.90 drive an went with an older version, but I keep getting the driver crashed, but recovered message - something about Windows Nvidia kernel stopped responding.  So it seems that no matter which driver I use it crashes.  Any ideas?

Thanks...Al

Crash in BF3 only?

Hey Maniac, I can load the single campaign without issue if that makes any difference.  Also, I just tried Batman AC and it loaded without issue, so it seems to be BF3 online so far.  I'm going to try Crysis 2 to see what happens.

Thanks...Al

Hey! It seems that this forumthread has the right competence:-) to anserw my questions. I recently got my new computer.  I got low GPU usage when I play at big BF3 maps when SLI is enabled. Gpu usage drops down to 50/50 at worst and is fluctating between 50 -80 on each gpu. When I am playing at smalll maps i got 70 - 100 GPU usage. When SLI disabled(one card only) I got 95-100 % all the time. I use HWinfo64 and it never reach more than 84% CPU usage in any of my 4 cores/8 threads. Therefore I have concluded that its not a CPU bottleneck. It has also been confirmed by my supplier, so I really hope not!
I got these scores at Operation firestorm 64 maps(full server) with custom Ultra settings,  only mesh @ high and motion blur off, 4x MSAA and AA deferred high.
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
36692, 300000, 83, 200, 122.307
and same settings on 24 player scrapmetal Conquest domination
Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
39774, 300000, 69, 201, 132.580
Should I expect more? I am not satisfied with minimum FPS as low as 69.
setup:
< 60 degrees on both GPUS
< 70 degrees on CPU
solution; 1920 x 1080
Nvidia driver: 310.90
EVGA Precision for tuning - have tried framerate controll.

Welcome to the EVGA forums

Given your hardware setup my guess that the problem is your AA settings and HBAO
You have a 2gig VRAM buffer, so you should not be running both AA settings. Pick one or the other and both framerates and GPU use will rise

For your hardware setup I suggest you test with the -exact- settings shown below (dont skip any)

The above settings should provide a 20fps+ boost, as well as "look" and play better
*For even higher performance, try turning down the Texture Quailty setting to HIGH (almost no visible difference)

Thank you for these suggestions. I have been monitoring VRAM with afterburner and Hwinfo64 and I never use more than 1800mb when I am playing BF3, how can that be my limitations then?

I tried to change driver from 310.90 to 306.97 and i did get an increased performance, and my GPU usage is higher.

Try the settings exactly as posted for testing... you will be suprised

Also---> NEVER use HWinfo and Afterburner at the same time

Now I just want to know how to optimize FPS on max graphics. I usually play at lower settings in multiplayer to not get a disadvantage. Your setting suggestion was pretty smooth, but gpu usage where decreased :-|. Why cant botg gpu work 99% all the time and get me constant 200FPS. Thats all I want!! Yes, I know,120 FPS is enough but just to make a point.

Here are some  one thread I found:
"
Forcing gpu usage to 100% makes no sense.. whats the point? people either want quality of performance, gpu usage is a product not a determining factor in either. Besides, not sure if you know this but the CPU has to call draw on every single polygon on every single frame, between draw calls the GPU just idles so if the CPU has some other stuff to do in between - you cant get the usage percentage higher no matter how much you fiddle with the driver options.

Also the usage % is wrong or rather its wrong to call it the usage percentage. What it is is the % of cycles where the shader ALU's have something to do, nobody says that something has to be smart though. Depending on gpu architecture and game programming the ALU could be working on a single calculation or up to 5 of them at the same time so in essence - if the shaders on a particular game are crap and only utilize the ALU for 1 calculation per cycle then for radeon 6xxxx series for example it is only using 20% of the gpu even though the usage might say 100%. Also there are other resources like texture samplers, tesselation units and blah blah that might not be used at all, this also is not included in that percentage.

The only real indicator of GPU usage that you can monitor is how much heat it puts out, some benchmarks (like furmark) are designed to push through the maximum amount of calculations each ALU can do within a cycle every cycle and as a result the gpu really does get utilized to nearly 100% and it puts out a lot of heat. In reality though this will never happen, at best games can utilize around 50% of the full potential of the shader units no matter what the usage % says.
