Welp, I just paid for my step up card (980ti) and will be shipping the FTW out on Monday.  So glad to be moving on from this card.

Good luck to those who wish to continue messing with the card.  I say cut your loses and step up if you can.

Yeah, I know - sad.  I just squeaked into the program.  I had 5 days left to step up.  Now, I hope there's no repeat with the new car.

I'd RMA the FTW card, sell it and get what I can and use those funds towards a new card.  I know I'd take a hit, but sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

Well my "fixed" card is scheduled to arrive Monday. I will be taking these 3 cards out and running just the "fixed" card for a while. If this replacement doesn't function I frankly don't know what I will do. I guess I will have to research options through my credit card company or something for whatever grievance I can file for or whatever. I'm pretty sure my options are extremely limited by this point. I was feeling confident that EVGA had this fixed and had our backs until I read thollis89's post. Now I'm worried again.

I am one of those victims that fell outside the step-up range when the 980Ti came out. I'm trying very hard to reserve judgment until I get the first replacement card, but with the amount of problems this has caused I rather doubt I will get 3 working cards, 3 cards in this case = 3 chances to get another lemon. Not what I was expecting with this investment.

I am cautiously optimistic. Thollis89's post surely is not something you would want to happen after all the trouble the chard has given us, however, there's that kidfire00 made 3 days ago reporting that the fixed card was working just fine and we haven't heard from him since, which likely means he didn't incur in the problem again. I am waiting for my card sometimes next week and I'll report my experience with it.

Just wanted to chime in and say I got my GTX 980 FTW edition built my rig and ran benchmarks with no problems whatsoever. even dabbled in some games and haven't had any problems so that's good... right? Haha. Bought it from Newegg sometime around the fourth.

And what would the reason for this be? This thread has been the meeting point for 980FTW owners affected by the problematic over the past month, it helps to have one single thread rather than have anyone who experiences the issue with his 980FTW open up a new one, it reduces clutter. Most of the owners here, are still waiting from the fixed card back from RMA and report their experiences so, I fail to see any reason for closing this thread as well as the reason that compelled you to make such a post.

I don't understand this statement. Please elaborate? Were you just making a troll-face within the thread to bump the thread, or...?
Surely after everybody gets their fixed FTWs this thread will not be bumped as much, but until then, I can see plenty of people using it sooooooooo....

That's good. 980ti is better anyway. Keep in mind that if you had the ACX model of the 980ti, it would be the 980ti ACX (reference) model. I think that's better, because now you can overclock the way you want to, and if the clocks don't work out, at least you can set the clocks back to normal clock speed and start over. Bonus for you.

Yes, that's the one. Just excited that, after nearly 4 months, I'll have a working GPU rather than a paperweight.

I have stoped the Step-Up, it would take to long to receive the TI at the moment (i was on place 517 in Germany) and i dont wont to wait for month with a not correctly working 980FTW.
This week i should receive a 980FTW from the Advanced RMA, i will post the result after testing.
Later on i will take the step-up, enough time left for this. When i have a working card, the waiting time will be no problem.

Just keep mindful of how many days left you have on the step-up. If you expire the 90 step-up period, you're no longer legible, and you will be stuck with the 980ftw. My advice - stay in the queue.

UH NO Thank god it wasn't locked. I have a GTX 980 FTW i replaced for with a TI cause it kept crashing all the time while i was playing the big games like Witcher 3 and GTA. I was going to put this in my secondary build but looks like i need to wait till i get a "Fixed" card whatever that means. How do we claim our advance RMA's Just call up and mention this thread ?

Can EVGA comment on if they're putting this "fix" in their other superclocked 900 series cards like the ACX 2.0? Because pretty much what's posted in here keeps happening to my RMAs on the 980 ACX 2.0 SC. I'm on my third one. First one worked great for quite awhile until crashes cropped up, underclocked, stable. Same with last card, underclocked, stable. New RMA I got I ran benchmarks for 24 hours straight and then several hours for a few more days after. Played SWTOR tonight...crash. First time trying a game other than benchmarks since I got it about 2 weeks ago. I like running SWTOR and Witcher 3 because those 2 games seem to find any flaw that other benchmarks are having trouble exposing. I'd imagine Furmark would find any flaw in the card but I didn't run that one other day(was running Uingine Valley for 24 hours with no problems).

Ran tons of testing on my rig which is fairly new on the first 2 cards. This can't be a problem isolated to 980 FTW. Almost seems like my current card didn't like downclocking which is why I doesn't like SWTOR. Haven't tried underclocking but I'm guessing when I do it will run stable just like the previous 2 cards...

It's either something I'm not looking at in my rig or I'm getting incredibly unlucky. Only thing I haven't tried is switching PSUs but I did put an old GPU in my system a GTX 570 which probably takes more power than a 980 and seems to run stable...so there is that. Tested memory, switched ram slots, moved GPU to another PCI-E, etc. etc. I wouldn't even be mad at this point if someone came in saying they're rolling out fixes for other GPUs...

I'm a fairly advanced PC user and I've never ran into such a perplexing hardware problem. I always solved them relatively fast by slowly eliminating possible hardware causes but I can't for the life of me get a stable 980 in my system.

When i read other topics (other 980GTX superclocked modells) i'm also thinking of a general problem with cards of this series.

The psu could also be a problem, old psu's dont like the fast load cycles of the maxwell cards.
To exclude this and to be absolutely sure, i bought a new 750W Be quiet straight power E10 last week, the problem is still there with the ftw card.
My old psu was a 530W be quiet pure Power L8, this change was useless, but i want to have the assurance that its not a psu problem.

What psu do you use?
Try the skydiver demo in loop (default resolution and settings), this is a good stability test for the card.

My theory is that there is not enough power being pumped to any overclocked model on the 980 line.

Thats a possibility. But i really dont understand for what the FTW card has a 6+8 pin power connection, when the reference design uses the 6+6 connection.

insufficient transistors/capacitors, maybe... The FTW is going to need premium parts compared to a standard 980, because the FTW has a very high clock, so it needs that extra juice. Even with a 6+8 pin, that still may not be enough. The capacitors is what is providing the power to the circuit board. Even the SC models are also having something similar, but not as much. Any time EVGA is going to release any overclocked model, I recommend having premium capacitors/transistors for it function correctly. (EVGA I hope you're reading the last part.)

Hi guys,
i'm from germany and my englisch is bad, i hope you understand me, i use a google translator.

I have actually a boost from 1380MHz, much forward to the boost clock is at the very beginning 1442,8MHz me yes but:

If I now 62MHz clocks down and a Game start then he shows me the correct clock:

However, this does not agree with the GPU-Z display:

Crysis and other games fall with a black screen. Underclocked 62MHz and my System run stable, no crashes until now.
