Hello !

Here is the deal i bought this one :

Alphacool HF 14 Smart Motion Cooling Plate EVGA Classified SR-2 Dualchip - Nickel

and i am a little stuck on how to install it, i did not come with a manual and not even thermalpads, do i need thermalpads for the chips ?
and if yes : wich size should i buy (width).

next question: has the product good cooling ability ? , this purchase was a little impulsive.

Regards : Pol

I realize that this thread is a bit dated, but I was wondering...did you get this mounted?  I had considered buying one while they were available at FrozenCPU, but they are sold out now, as well as at Performance-PCs.

Just curious as to how it is working out for you and if you had any tips to share from your install.

Sorry to hear it didn't turn out so well...I guess that based on your experience, the install tip would be a simple "Don't do it" huh? That had to be annoying.

As for it not being so expensive, didn't you have to also buy a second mosfet "cooling plate" for the SR-2, which based on the pricing that I saw for these it still had to run you somewhere in the $75-$80 range, maybe more after you add shipping costs.  Way too much to spend on a paper weight.

Actually , i dont know? do you need the extra mosfet also ?

I bought the plate from Aquatuning :

This was a serious lesson for me , to buy something i  can " handle " , atleast something with a manual preferable.
    -------------------

And also something worth mention the ! The plate is full of scratches noticible. i dont know if all of them is like that or just mine.

You don't "need" it, unless you wanted it all to match.  It is sold as a separate unit.

I'm curious as to what problems you encountered during the install.  The plate is one flat piece, so I'm guessing that you needed to apply TIM to the chipset and other components required to be cooled, using the stock cooler as a guide, then bolt it down with the included hardware (it appears from the product pics that I've seen that mounting hardware was included).  On the surface it doesn't appear that it should have been too difficult, but of course, that isn't the same as actually trying to do it, so that is why I ask.

It only runs coolant thru the small acetal housing at the top of the pic...it is basically a "heat sink" without any fins and the small section that has water running thru it is supposed to help absorb the heat.

I honestly have no idea as to how well it functions so I'm very curious myself.

If thats the case then it should at least cool the north bridge well. The most important thing to cool if your going to overclock. Although i would recommend getting some mosfet coolers to keep them from overheating too if your going to overclock. Dont know how well it would work as a passive heat sink for the south bridge and lower part of the board. Keep us posted on how you go.

What exactly is the purpose of this if it doesn't  properly water cool the chip set? It looks like the cooling would be worse that standard.
