SLI on, or SLI off with the original profile does nothing.

Seeing that you got SLI to work do you think we will see a patched fix for the game to make it just work without tweaks?

Created my account just so I could add my experience. This is one of the only useful threads about Red Dead 2 SLI support I could find. I tried using the suggestions from Sajin and JustusLM. This is at 3440x1440 200hz refresh rate with Acer X35 monitor, all settings at max just like what Sajin showed in his screenshots, with 9900K @ 5.0Ghz, 32GB 4600Mhz Ram, Intel 905P Optane, 2080ti SLI/NVLink Founder's Edition with latest drivers (441.12).

Single 2080ti:

Sajin SLI:

JustusLM SLI:

Some impressive results, practically doubling my frames. But the flickering from snow, occasional blur/stutter and a few other graphical glitches suck, so I don't think I can play through the game like this. Are there any in game settings I should tweak to address these problems? I'm not familiar with editing SLI bits so not sure what to edit on that end.

I tried running Sajin and JustusLM's settings with the last two drivers (440.97, 441.08) and the benchmark either wouldn't run or the screen would go all white or all black.

Forgive the phone pics as screenshots, just got a new keyboard and it doesn't have the print screen button, need to map it.

Maybe get a deal on the Kingpin?  Already has a 240mm AIO and is about as much as you're going get out of a single card.  I'd say if you can get one for about $1600 or so you're doing really good.

I always liked King Pin cards.. but it is not the card for me. I am not the OC freak. I usually settle with factory OC. I will be wasting money buying a King Pin. So FTW3 is the version I always like to buy from previous Generations and future too.

What driver do you use to get second card used? We have to roll back driver?

Welcome to the fourms

Nice. Glad to hear you got it to work. Makes me think more that mGPU will be better on RTX cards as opposed to GTX cards. That's the only logical explanation i can think of. Because I tried both and none made a difference for me. 1080 Ti FTW3 SLi.

Time for new cards ... Now I am in this fight in my head get 2080 Ti's or wait for next Gen with is rumored to be out Q1/Q2 2020. but knowing my self, I am not a patient person and gaming is mostly what I do at home after a day of hard work.

I applied Sajin SLI settings but for some reason, my Red Dead 2 has stopped utilizing my second GPU.. I tested Star Citizen and it shows both cards working evenly.. RD wont even utilize card 2 at all??any ideas?  TY

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2: SLI Support 2019/11/07 04:59:00 (permalink)
Just wanted to pop back in and thank everyone for their efforts - I am sure Rockstar will patch this officially in the future given it's history with GTA V and it's excellent SLI support, but for now this is a playable alternative.

I managed to get a solid 60 FPS at 3440x1440 (2K/UWHD) with 1080 SLI (see the rest of my rig in signature) using Justus's profile with some minor personal tweaks.  Just for fun I tried 4K on my QLED and it dropped me to 30FPS (it was like playing on my PS4 Pro).  I personally prefer the UWHD experience anyway for these types of games.

As for minor tweaks, I went into NVIDIA's global profile and forced VSYNC off (I am using a GSYNC monitor) and it did not negatively affect anything - so for any GSYNC users it seems to behave.  Also, I made sure the power was set to maximum performance and I tried with hyperthread on/off.  One of these 2 maneuvers improved my FPS by 3 in the benchmark.

I turned off all AA except TAA (which was set to medium).  I have the slider in the advanced in-game options all the way to the right.

I experimented with shadows to see if going lower than ultra/high did anything - it crashed the game a few times but ultimately I was able to experiment and it did not affect my FPS.

I am messing around with grass and other effects to see if I can get better frames in the meantime.  I was reading somewhere on the NVIDIA forums that the particles and grass were meant to be set to medium on the new gen cards, so my older cards are probably fighting hard to keep up.  I'll report back if I figure out any major settings but for anyone with 1080's and on the fence like I was, this is totally doable.

Thank you again to Justus and Sajin!

In fact the problem was when i was using DX12 instead of Vulcan. If you are using DX12 and change to Vulcan you have to exit game and restart otherwise it still doesn't work (at least for me)

It works for me in fps, but the light and environment are flickering...

EDIT: running 2x 1080ti

Interesting; I also tried this with 1080ti cards. The profile changes didn't affect my game one way, or the other. The SLI indicator never even kicked on. Are you using this profile exactly, or have you made any other modifications?

Nvidia inspector didn't work
I had to use this program:

Sajin

That tool can help you put the profile in.

Re: Red Dead Redemption 2: SLI Support 2019/11/07 08:20:55 (permalink)
Good news SLI is working great, i'm getting 84fps @4K with everything to ultra and MSAA *2

setting MSAA to *2 made the snow/tree flickering in the benchmark disappear !!

(2 2080ti 9900K 128Go Ram)

only downside of Sli: doesn't work with dx12 and i didn't find how to run reshade with Vulkan

for vulkan/reshade you have to start the game from a .bat file but rdr2 needs to be launched from the launcher :-(
i have tried to replace rdr2.exe in the batch with the launcher: it almost works, when you run rdr2 from the launcher the game start with reshade but i'm getting a "video error for social club" and have to close the game :-(
I have tried to change the reshade key from "home" to something else as the "home" button is the one used for social club but it didn't help :-(

Yeah, I tried both.

I also tried using Justin's profile, but, for me, it causes a hard crash immediately upon launching the game.

It is completely tricky. Every time I try to load the text file with the new profile into the Inspector, it does not work. If I do not make any changes to the file, it works. What's the problem?

Really awesome to see some having some luck, especially given this game clearly can majorly benefit with multiple GPU's. So it would seem some serious negligence on Rockstar's & Nvidia's part. When the home user can tweak a profile to get SLI/NVLink working to some extent, it really just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. What we got here, is failure to communicate!

p.s. For those who say SLI/NVLink is dead, there are 8K + views on this thread so far that say otherwise. Yes the user base for SLI is a small percentage compared to overall systems, but it doesn't make them any less important. Clearly there is a large enough user base that should warrant Nvidia & Game Developers to work a little closer together & ensure the best experience for everybody. If you have ever visited Nvidia's campus, you know they clearly have the resources & funding.

You cannot force SLI on Vulkan or DX12 api's, the Driver has no capability to make this work and RDR2 has no DX11 renderer.

You cannot be correct about this. It is working, there is a significant performance increase using Vulkan with Sli enabled.
And this is Sli, this is no other type of mGPU rendering. So, well, it must work, otherwise it wouldn't be working.

Also, addressing everyone, I want to say I'm happy my profile appears to be pretty helpful.
I'm not really an expert with Sli either, so seeing this work for several people is really awesome!

Im not having much luck with it and im also running 2 1080s. I can apply Sanjis settings and it does nothing, same as single card. When I add yours the game crashes back to the main menu after attempting to run the benchmark. Is there a way you could upload the actual file somewhere. I have a feeling maybe my file is messed up im importing back in after applying your changes.

Are you using Vulkan?
It does not work with DX12, and the issues you describe are exactly what happens when you use Sajin's profile or mine in DX12.

I had flickering everywhere with Sajin's, but only in the snow with mine (still haven't actually played yet, though, only ran the benchmark).
