Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing well.

I have a EVGA GTX 670 2GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Graphics Card, and recently it has been blacking out and the fans spinning at full speed. It doesn't happen very often, but it's a bit of a pain when it does happen.

Could this be a faulty GPU, it's a few years old now so I guess I would have to replace it if that was the case.

My other system specs are:
Windows 10 64bit
Asrock Z77 Extreme6 Mobo
Intel i5-3570K CPU
Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR1600MHz
Corsair AX760 ATX/EPS

If I can provide any further information that may help..please let me know.
Cheers!

Jack

Most of the time this is caused by a faulty gpu/psu. How old is your psu? Have you tried power the card with a different set of pci-e power cables?

    Hey,
    Thanks for your reply.

I bought my whole system at the same time. Which was May 2013. So it is a few years old.
And no I haven't tried powering with any other cables, i'm quite limited to what I have access to at the moment. I do not have many spare parts, or friends with compatible cables or components to a switch-a-roo unfortunately.

Try using a different power outlet from the psu (where the pci-e power cables plug into the psu at) along with a different set of pci-e power cables to power the card. Post your results after doing that.

Another thing that could be causing the black screen/100% fan issue is overheating on the gpu.

Did you try reseating the card?!? Actually, you should remove it from the rig and clean it while you have it out then reinstall it. Just make sure when you put it back in the motherboard that the card catches the little lock on the pci-e slot or the card could rattle out of the slot and give you a whole assortment of headaches.

    Hey,

I have tried reseating the card a little while back. I'm averagely tech savvy with computers so it wasn't a problem for me.

I've had a thought that it may be overheating at times? It was mentioned above.

I have a zalman tower case that came fitted with 3x 120mm fans (Front, back and top) and two smaller fans on the side panels of the case. So I know the circulation is decent as is used efficient cable management too.

However yesterday when this happened and lead me to post here, I was pushing my card quite hard playing GW2 on ultra and streaming some HD content frm catch up TV. By the time I got round to checking the temp my system was idling at a normal temp.

I dunno how useful this information will be, but I had a bit of a thoughtful moment.
