Well the Apex Encore is sold out everywhere not paying scalper prices and not buying an open box. Missing out on like 1-2 fps and .3-.5ms frame time stock thanks to the ram on how I have to run it. Oh well it is what it is.

Well I already know I have a golden off the production line board bought it from chispy at GURU3D/OCN/HWBot, he does 8800mhz on pretty effortlessly for 24/7 use. My limiting factor will be my CPU's IMC, since my cpu has only been on a 4 dimm board the Rog Strix Z790-E that in itself already does not give me idea where the chips imc stands. It ran 7200mhz cl34 under the right bios's all the newer ones with a with a 8 in them kind of killed 7200mhz cl34 xmp support. So I will be able to get 7800mhz in xmp right off the bat, my current kit 7200mhz cl34 will work flawlessly but tuning it to cl28 if the imc is not up for it may not be possible. I will not know until the board gets here unfortunately.

Now I am in the debate of do I get a 8000mhz cl38 kit 2x25 XTREEM from team group, I could get the 8200mhz kit but that would be on my imc if it just worked and I doubt it. Being on a 4 dimm board and it not being anything special I do not exactly know where I stand on the IMC. Sadly I cannot find a 7800mhz kit of TeamGroups EXTREEM ARGB anywhere in the states still. I know no matter how your IMC is that 7800mhz kit should just work on the Apex Encore. I will be benching some but mostly will be gaming and will be attempting to run the ram at 7200mhz cl28. Not impressed with corsair and I hate their icue, G.Skill is nice but I do not like how their pmic does not have a thermal pad and the fact that teamgroup xtreem's run better all-around saw it with the kit I had while I was trying to see what was up with my rog strix z790-e.

Tiny bit of cleanup to do on the cable management. But yeah its done... The 8000mhz cl38 T-Force XTREEM ARGB is pretty nice too like their premium T-Crate kits just with bigger heatsinks. I will say yeah my G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 7200mhz cl34 probably should be swapped out, it stopped running at its rated speed stable not just on my Rog Strix E but also would not stay stable without a ton of voltage on the Apex, this T-Force kit just well works.

Whats funny is it's just a theme called starry night with red and blue selected as colors haha.

Very nice machine .
Ive been looking at components lately, and I noticed that a couple of reviewers

Using that ram on that board is a waste... cl is way too high with the speed too low. The board is meant for the extreme overclocker or the gamer that just wants to get the best 1% lows/lowest frame time possible. Also here is the thing with intel chips, ddr5 and boards. Your results will vary, like your board may not be up to it, your cpu may not be up to it or both are not up for it, to you need to dial in your settings, a reviewer is not going to spend that amount of time... If one of those elements not right, or not compensated for it will throw off your results big time. Right now I just got 7200mhz cl34 stable, 7600mhz cl36 stable, now I am trying to tweak 7800mhz to get it stable as its messing with my gaming experience and bench scores. Once I get those settings dialed in, I will be trying to get my 8000mhz kit to run at 8000mhz stable...

I see what you mean .  It seems like reviewers test whatever they can get for free
from the manufacturers .  They will probably test faster kits on the same board
when they can get them ... but they aren't going to spend the time needed
to really tune things up .  That's why I like this message board .  People here
do take the time, and are good enough to post about it :)
That's moocho-terrifico .
BTW, good luck on your quest for more MHz .

Re: Do not even know what to name this... 2024/06/02 19:10:55 (permalink)
Well I now have the Apex Encore found something out that is interesting. The outsourced company asus uses to make their bios's Shamino is not making them... Well on Teamgroup ram the SA VID voltage they set it so low on auto you are not getting past 7600mhz.... If you are not paying attention, you can get about 6-10hrs on Karhu without it throwing an error on teamgroup 8000-8200mhz ram if you set in my case the MC to 1.375 instead of its auto 1.385.

You put G.Skill ram into the board 8000-8200mhz it will set the SA VID around 1.3v on auto. Treamgroup nope... Its like they just tested the teamgroup 7600mhz and said yeah this is good enough.

Next my cpu saga, my IMC on my 13900k is weakened if I mess with the SA VID I can get 7600mhz stable, Well I have Teamgroup XTREEM ARGB 8000mhz cl38 I want that and know for a fact this board runs 8000-8400mhz no problem. So not knowing about the SA VID issue, I get a 14900k got set it to 7600mhz after everything I thought of trying at 8000mhz it was not having it. Well the cpu yeeted the next morning... Got a 14900ks it would not run anything 7200-8000mhz second, I clicked Karhu it would lock up my screen and I was forced to reboot. Returned it and it seems the return has magically gone MIA in UPS's clutch's. The only positive is I got the new Star Wars game for free... I go and get another 14900k from best buy, 7600mhz stable cool, 8000mhz no, lowered my MC voltage to 1.375 I get anywhere from 6-10hrs on Karhu then an error. Then I was like what is going on the board I know can do 8000-8400mhz, the fact I can make karhu run so long it should be doable.

So I did some reading, I saw other boards that are running g.skill. I then saw a video of asrocks new z790 itx board and saw Teamgroup kits 8000mhz was running with the SA VID at 1.25 on and on the 8200mhz kit 1.3v. So I ask all my overclocking to enthusiast friends hey on your apex with your g.skill kits on xmp 8000-8200mhz kits what is your SA VID running at? all of them replied with 1.3v and said auto. So I was like well it seems my MC and cpu like 1.375 let me set that again, now let's take my SA VID to 1.24, got instability and and an error fast. Set it to 1.25v low and behold I am now over 10hrs of running Karhu I believe its safe to say my 14900k can run 8000mhz cl38 2x24 xmp stable. If that outsourced bios team ASUS hired did a better job this probably would not have been the stupid adventure it was. I like the Teambroup kits because they run cooler on the XTREEM's then the PMIC has a thermal pad. The blacks run around 45c and the ARGB's run around 50c at 8000mhz xmp.

Last bit of fine tuning on the cpu for gaming, VT Curves with a negative offset, cpu and ram are running the way it should cooler, was able to reduce the SA down to 1.25v from 1.3v for ram stability.  Just waiting on fans for the AIO to reduce temps by about 3-5c more and yeah not much else I can do unless I want to go direct die. CPU scores is consistent on the CPU timespy test alone as I have tested everything adjusting voltages. System is finally fine tuned voltage wise for the game it was built around to run.

Cool, nice .  If I read right you got the stable 8000 Mhz RAM speed you were after .  Congrats.  Funny in a way because my old ASUS computer from 2007
runs at 800 Mhz .  That was high performance at the time
Noticed that the Cyberpunk benchmark takes a nice 14.6 Gb chunk of video memory .  My 3080 in my EVGA computer must be getting out of date .
It only has 10Gb .  Oh well, still works good .  Hope you are enjoying your 14900K, I really like mine since it has settled down, now it's just
fast, not a space heater .  Cheers !

Oh that is not a benchmark, that spot should be part of the benchmark of the game, it is the most demanding spot. Oh play the game for like 3-4hrs+ you will chew up anywhere from 17-18.Xgb of vram as assets are there in vram to be called upon for variety.

Re: Do not even know what to name this... 2024/08/18 20:30:29 (permalink)
well tamed and tuned this 14900k yet the E cores love the yeet the voltages up, so got a delid relid tool from Rockit Cool for 12th-14th gen, and have an EK Nucleus Direct Die AIO on the way. Will be on the main guts of this pc until 2027 so going to make the most of it. The asus rule of cool aio is enough for a 13900k, a 14900k with meh E cores not so much, I have the cpu fully tuned and tamed running cool, a benching profile and a gaming profile. I expect the Honeywell PTM7950 pad to work much like it does on my gpu going to direct die with the cpu. I am not touching LM, my board, to my case if I mess up or anything should happen. Well no thanks I will pass, and the fact the LM has to be changed.... Honeywell never has to be.

since it is so highly recommended here .
I'm about to post about it now, but
first I wanted to give your latest mods

Well that was the fastest delid I have ever done, this rocket cooling tool is awesome. Am surprised how easy it is now. took under two minutes, then about 7-15min to clean the stuff off the die itself. Honewell PTM7950 is still curing, my below average grade chip for 6ghz wants 1.45-1.48 Vcore and VID... The E cores run so cool now they no longer want insane amounts of voltage rising my vcore and vid up when I locked my two top P cores. Honestly am impressed. Didn't want to lose my asus AIO screen so using it as a 24 cable shroud. Sadly not connected to the AIO it loses most of its ability to sense a lot of temps. The AIO has a lot of its own sensors thus not causing any polling conflicting issues.  The install of it all was super easy, like how EK has it setup you cannot even break your die on the chip the LGA1700 direct die bracket keeps the AIO direct die cold plate from going to far. I spent more time taking out the old AIO, rerouting cables putting in the new aio and routing cables than I did on the whole delid process.

I will play with it later I should be able to get 5.8-5.9ghz all core on this Direct Die Aio. 6ghz is not happening too much power is required due to the lower than average quality of my chip. The only reason I didn't return it is the IMC is able to run 8000mhz cl38 2x24. 4 chips later was like ok got a winner.  My ASUS AIO was able to cool my 13900k no problem, but the 14900k at full clocks nope, I had to tame and tune the chip or it was would be overwhelmed. At least now I can yeet the cpu if I want to and the temps stay down.

I will tidy up the wiring in the back at some point but only 4hrs of sleep in two days... yeah... time for some zzz's.

Also Honeywell PTM7950 pad has cured more. =D This is idle, regular use with /argb on to help keep the pad warmer for curing, gaming 40-60c, and benching 6X-74c on average. Preffered Cores locked at 57 I can do 59 but 200mhz is not going to mean jack in gaming, I do that to keep the Vcore and VID under 1.4v thanks to the voltage table and my chip needing 1.4v+ for 6ghz, The IA VR set to 1420. To make sure my cores are not voltage throttled by the latest bios the new microcode how it works had to set it ot that to at least hit 1.38Xv to keep my lower than average quality cpu happy and stable has a combined SP score of 94 if that tells you anything, IMC is solid so I can run 8000mhz CL38 with just a bump to my SA voltage has to be set manually for this ram kit.
