Finally some pictures:
The drain in the poured (scooped) concrete before painting:

Now the painted structure:

The metal frame is bolted through everything.  The concrete was painted to A: created a sort of seal for the concrete, B: make it slightly easier on the eye then plain concrete.

The whole of everything will then be coated in fiberglass resin (just the resin, without the fiberglass).  That will 100% seal everything from the liquid oil bath (hopefully if I don't miss any spots), and protect the concrete from any chips, and allow for easy clean up.  Mostly looking for the waterproof capabilities of the resin though.

Re:P67 Full Chipset Waterblock 2011/11/29 19:23:10 (permalink)
thats 6K just for the foundation, walls, roof, shingles, and siding. Just enough to get it the dry. Not counting tools, insulation, sheetrock or electrical, I havent even looked into having a backhole dig the foundation, I can of forgot I cant do the digging myself since I hurt my back, But Im sure a few hundreds bucks to do a 20x30, he could nock out in an hour or two.......

Tool wise, just to get me started, Im looking around at 1K, which isnt bad at all. First few projects will be hardwood, and at least pay for the tools on my first few projects. Im hoping to at least break even from what I put into it, that first yr. 7K dosent sound like much for a yr but Ive been with PizzaHut 6 yrs and Im only making 12K at 40 hours a week. I can prob do 20 hours a week wood working and make what Id be making part time at PH. Jan-Feb I go back down to 20 hours at week at PH, thats only 6K a yr. Sorry for the rambling, but I like talking shop

In short, what Michelle makes(not counting what she'd make when she's done witth school in two yrs) and what Id could make doing woodwork part time, we'd break even and no more kitchen work on that hardazz concrete floor, and Id be working for myself, no corporate BS....
My following next investment would be something like this, Build up to anyways:
http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=19896
I laugh at peoples that say, ya need 100K to start a woodshop, the rest if the tools needs would be less than linked table saw......

How many machines ya got total Nate?

Re:P67 Full Chipset Waterblock 2011/12/01 22:06:50 (permalink)
nice.
I would of used 2-3 sheets of 3/4 oak plywood and treated it with the good ol green stuff. But almost everthing I do is overkill. Dont ask the wife. But what did ya use for the base?

By the way, I did find someone local for hardwood, just birch and oak, but hey its local, Guess where? "Home Depot" LOL....

I tend to favor 4x8 sheets of MDF.  The stuff is practically machined flat.  Makes for great building, but don't get it wet.

Guess Im a sucker for Oak and Cherry myself.

We get alot of rain and humid summers and winters here. Ice Storms arent fun BTW. But Oak plywood for almost everything down here, because of the humidity.  I have yet to work with actual hardwood yet, but Im really looking forward to it.

Who doesn't like to take the opportunity to shake their hose around?

I did end up having a small hole in the layer of fiberglass, which I patched yesterday.  I am still at the mercy of the local machinist who is truing up a dovetailed part for me.

I am taking that time to touch up anything on the enclosure.  He should have it done this week and then I can assemble everything and then comes the process of truing it up, and I am back in business.

Re:P67 Full Chipset Waterblock 2011/12/08 07:19:43 (permalink)
Finally after an entire day of fabrication, I made the part that will finally get me back up and running.

I am not kidding, it took all day to make it.

After taking a mental inventory of what machines I have operational vs their accuracy, the only one that fit the bill was my mini lathe.  Also taking into account the scrap material I had laying around.  The only solution I could come up with, is what your looking at now.

Having to remove 1.5" of material, and take 1/4" off the outside of this hunk of aluminum on a mini lathe, is like mowing the grass with hedge clippers.  While it could go much faster on a real lathe, this mini lathe is just for small stuff.  I eventually got what I needed, and now all that remains is to secure that mount to the part it sits on.  That parts sole function is to keep the motor secure and ensure the rotary motion of the motor is transferred to the ballscrew.

Nate,
Will this get you going on final production or do you still have prototype work left? I would also like to know if there are any interferences between the NF 200 (out) to the Vreg (in). I need to know if I will have to buy extenders to put under the 90's.
I am going to keep the p67 board when you send it back to me and the Z68 board will be used in a step up to a X79 classified, that I will put away for a while until I get some good use out of the P67.
I hope we are getting close. Thank you for all your hard work.
Joe

WOW, great progress Nate!

Can't wait to get a set in my hands. I ended up gifting my P67 FTW to my sister and have been running a Z68 FTW instead. Glad to see there are no differences in the layouts. I too noticed all they did was put stickers over all the marked P67 parts.

Sadly, I still want to do one more prototype run with the VR blocks.  I want to make sure i have the coding... PERFECT.  even one thing off by a thousandth of an inch will be intolerable.

I am drilling the holes right now to get that huge round hunk of metal to bolt to my shaft.... wait, that didn't sound right.
