Folks, we have broke ground with the prototype.

Forgive the narrow slits that look like crosshairs, they should be thicker.

Nate,
If no, one is offended I'm sure not. I think it looks real cool.  This is a home run in my eyes. With it out of copper an original and the black top this is going to be way cool. I am totally impressed and the wait is well worth it!! I bow to your greatness. (sorry Nate I was Half asleep when I posted this) Fixed!)

I opted to switch up the interior.  Going more for simplicity with regards to the O-ring.
I have to hand write all this code so it makes life easier.

There is still an unavoidable reduction which is on order of 3/8" for the under 1/2" length so it won't be all that noticeable.  The fluids will just accelerate a little bit right in that spot.

The nozzle size remains 1/2 inch correct?

yup.

Hows this for accuracy:

2" within 0.005"...  five thousandths of an inch accuracy.  A finish pass could get that down even closer.

already re-designing those slots.  currently they are 1/8" thick, but I tend to over-complicate things and I may make them 1/16".  More slots.

yea, I learned so much in a short time and I have implemented new techniques to measuring backlash and tramming since building it.  Also these methods and new technologies are going into the new CNC im currently building.

Awesome work, Nate. I'll be interested in a P67 FTW block, whenever they are made available.

I (and many others I'm sure) really appreciate the time and effort you are putting towards this project. It's a shame none of the big waterblock companies are willing to do this, but a guy in his basement working in his spare time is. Thanks again!

Re:P67 Full Chipset Waterblock 2011/10/25 07:44:05 (permalink)
Some long overdue pictures.  The actual process doesn't take nearly this long to make the block, the coding when done by hand takes hours.  Things like this are why CAM programs exist.  If only I knew how to operate (and/or afford one) this would be done in no time flat.  This is sort of the inherent beauty of CNC machining, once all the programming is done, you just hit the GO button.

In any case once all the programming is done, the blocks cutting become the easy part.  So without further a due:

I did a 0.001" finish pass on the edges of the outside at 2 inches per minute.  It feels like glass.

The inner channel

This took days and days to program (along with the inner O ring) to make everything fit and minimize restriction.

Next up will be pics of the O-ring channel, and the cap cutouts on the bottom.
