So now I am looking at Ram.
I game in VR - and I know VR likes both higher speed ram and also low latency ram.
The upcoming EVGA Z390 Dark MB supports:
Memory: 2 DIMM Dual-Channel (up to 32GB) DDR4 4600MHz+
So now the question is what to get. Higher speed thus higher latency, or lower speed like 3200 or 3600 with lower latency.
I have been a big fan of Corsair Dominator Platinum ram for many years, I know it is a little pricey but never had had a moments issue with them over several builds. Would kind of like to stay with it. Will be getting 32 GB ( 2x16).
Any opinions?

Yeah that was the box it actually shipped in as well, and this is a heavy case so not surprised the box got some dings. I have not opened it up yet - but feels like it is encased in some good padding all around so I am not much concerned. The i9 9900k is in hand now. The puzzle is coming together slowly but surely.

I am going to assume when it comes to choosing Ram for the new Z390 Dark, it may be best to just wait
until EVGA publishes list of compatible ram for the board?

Certainly is the "safest" route but could probably use the supported ram on the Z370 Classified K as a baseline idea.

Also literally just realized that the list for the Z390 FTW is posted.
Ive read in some places that the list is just what they've tested, could very well be other kits that work just fine.

Ok so I think I have about decided on:
G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model F4-3200C14D-32GTZR
I know VR gaming tends to like the lower latency, which is why I am looking at this CL 14 ram.
Not sure I would gain much going with a higher speed along with higher latency.
Any thoughts?

Pretty awesome actually. Flight and Racing games are really incredible in VR. Rather than looking at a smaller image on a fixed monitor, you are literally in that world with everything full size and looking all around with 1:1 head tracking. Image quality is currently certainly not up to a monitor's standards, but for me the immersion takes over and far outweighs that. I got my Rift on Jan 15th 2017 and have not gamed on the monitor since. There are some that can't get beyond the lower resolution, very much a personal preference. For most that I have seen though, they are like me with the immersion. The Oculus Touch Controllers are a blast also.

Really anxious to get this done, but I know I really want to go with the Dark so am just going to have to be patient.

My cat approves of my new EVGA DG 87 Case that arrived yesterday.
i9 9900k showing scheduled to arrive today.
Now just waiting on the EVGA Z390 Dark. Patiently.
Now about that ram...
Looks like your build is going to be delayed. The cat has claimed that box and the laws of physics prevent a cat, who is laying down, from being moved.

Lol, that is still his favorite place to lay here in my office. Don't know what he is going to do when I get the new build done and that is not there for him any longer.
You could always replace his bed with this box (assuming he has a cat bed and not just sleeps anywhere he likes). Maybe cut a hole in it for him to be inside it! -Jacob B.

Hey gang, Ok so the final component of this new build is now on the way to me finally, the Dark MB. All other parts are here now ready to be put in. List of components I ended up with for this new build: EVGA Z390 Dark MB. EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra EVGA DG 87 Case EVGA 1000w Titanium Modular Power Supply. 32 GB G Skill Trident Z 3200 MHz CL14 DDR4 ram. Corsair H150i Pro Closed Loop Cooler. 2 ea Samsung 1TB m.2 Nvme 1ea Samsung 1TB SATA SSD. Kind of dreading getting everything put together and all the programs installed new, but very much looking forward to the finished product. Motherboard scheduled for deliver Monday the 14th, hope to get started later that week. I've aged a lot and had some health issues since last build, so am sure I won't be as quick doing it as I once was. Will have to take my time and be very, very careful. Thanks again to all that helped in this thread, very much appreciated! I just hope this new rig will be as solid and trouble free as this X79 build I have been running the last 5+ years. I will update again once I get started hopefully next week sometime.

the g.skill c18 3866 ram is supposed to have some epic OC capability, you might be able to get that instead if you bought ram through newegg. cl14 3200 sounds interesting though if theres a significant price gap. F4-3866C18D-32GTZR it should come back in stock at 450$ through newegg
