480's work again, but just couldn't dial it in on vantage, so I got frustrated and tried to bang out a 3d06 run.  But that proved harder than I thought and I'm almost out of LN2.

I don't know if any of you guys notice the # of frames at the end of each test, but I was getting for example 11,500's on 06 test 1.  Frames I've never even come close to before.  And the best part of it was the single 480 was only at 1700/2000@1.15v.  CPU was at 5.38ghz.  But a lot more finesse has to be done, and like I said, LN2 is a runnin' out.

Everything is real wet right now.  Cold even seeped into the ram slots, as the shop towels in the dimm slots are damp.  To say the least, I don't think I'm turning it on until everything dries out.  Till tomorrow.

Just as I thought...everything is too wet.  Shop towel gasket is soaked.

And doesn't look like I got a real good mount either.  A lot of blank spots on the tim.  I went with the pea size drop in the center method this time.  I'm going back to spreading it evenly with my finger next time.  That gets perfect contact everytime.

Looks like my DICE session in the middle of summer with 85f temps lol.
What was ambient temp? Maybe next time stuff your board with tissue paper.  Also I've heard of people baking boards in the oven @ 100f sure to dry them out, not sure I'd try it lol. Perhaps better contact with the cpu will help with overall OC.

Temps weren't bad today (70F), but humidity was 55% after all that rain yesterday.  2 weeks ago humidity levels were 40% and I got less overall moisture w/ LN2.  My mobo is stuffed with shop towels, eraser almost everywhere, and layers of plastidip on socket area and back of board.  It's fool-proof.  I'm not worried...everything is working as designed.  It will be fully operational tomorrow.

Thanks Snipe.  I have been, but I don't do it every session.  I'll have to re-coat everything.  It's been a while since I did the pci-e slots.  The 480's started acting up Wednesday night on the chiller, but I just chalked it up as a few isolated events.  So, the next day I picked up the LN2 and the 480 issue continued.  Wasted LN2 session!!  I finally figured it out, but wasted too much LN2 in the process.  Now 480's are back to normal, but LN2 gone

Next time I'll be certain that everything is working properly.

the event is not completely wasted, think of it this way you now have a 5.4ghz OC stable on your 980 and you have found out that there is a possibility for mostier in you PCI slots

Yes, I do like that.  And Vantage CPU stable at that....that's an important distinction.

...eraser almost everywhere,...

You realize that the eraser has zero insulating properties?  It is not a legit insulator.  If it was, you would see people wrapping their pots with it.  Foam ftw.

No, I mean eraser on the mobo to protect against condensation.  I'm not going to put foam on the motherboard, lol!  My point was that I have double condensation protection, eraser on top of plastidip.  Don't ask...it just evolved to that point, lol!  But my mobo looks like the millennium falcon....ugly as hell, and fast as, well, you know

I planned on running some single card 06/05/03's tonight.  So I fire up my XP disk, no go it's dead!  So I run 06 on Win7, and just as I'm about to break 35k, I hear my pump make a loud noise.....it's dead!  I can't catch a break, lol!

I was able to finish this run before the pump went bye bye...

Just an fyi, if you are upping the pci-e clock to be able to up the qpi more, don't use an ssd. IIRC high pci/pci-e freq. screws with ssds.

yeah, messing with the pci can make the ssd off at times...i did run across that once in a great while.

but xp runs great from and ssd though.
just install the achi drivers and reboot achi mode.

Humm.  I never knew that.  I use a 118 pci-e all the time on my ocz ssd with out a hiccup for 4 months now.  I'll have to keep an eye out, so thanks for the tip

So John, install xp in IDE mode, then install ahci drivers, then reboot and change mode to ahci in BIOS?

Yea, that's the bad thing about LN2...once you just start figuring things out, you run out of the stuff, lol!  I have an extra mag 7 pump in my inventory, so I just have to drop that in.  My other pump was 1070gph, and the mag7 is 700gph.  I wonder what difference I'll see..hummm.

Ohhhh yeaaa.  Dice/LN2 ALWAYS runs out just when you figure things out.  Even 50L will go.  I can't understand it for the life of me.

btw, found some extra foam for ya.  Getting some lathe parts in this week.  Progress & pics to follow when they arrive.

Got a Biostar TPower i45 on the way, and for a nice deal too. Should be able to really tear up some of the dual cores i have now.

For reference:
http://hwbot.org/hardware/motherboard/tpower_i45
725 FSB Obviously i'm not going for that, but this board is pretty much the best ddr2 socket 775 board (Asus Commando is usually better for older chips though). And probably the best clocking board behind the REX.

Okay guys... Newegg has a %10 off code for all motherboards right now.... Should I get a Rampage 3 Extreme Open box for $287 - %10 = $258.30

or a Classified 3 and use my EVGA bucks on it to make it... $379.99 - 68 - 20(MIR) = $299.99

What to do what to do.. I'm leaning toward the R3E to be honest but if the Classy 3 will clock as well I'll get it.

Edit: last option, I like this best. Classy 3 from newegg: $369 - $20 MIR - %10... = $313 and save my 68 EVGA bucks for a 580 or something.

I would wait and to see how the new 1155 boards come out, too late in the game for x58's at this point. If the 1155 socket doesn't go well you could get a x58 cheaper down the road...

Out with 480's and in with the 580's 30k vantage on air, marks are already on bot!

I would wait and to see how the new 1155 boards come out, too late in the game for x58's at this point. If the 1155 socket doesn't go well you could get a x58 cheaper down the road...

Out with 480's and in with the 580's 30k vantage on air, marks are already on bot!

Currently I'm not planning on moving to 1155, I'll end up staying with 1366 for a long while. It just has to last long until summer after this coming one. If the 970 ever comes down to around $600ish I'll probably pick up one, and that'll be my last motherboard/CPU/RAM change for a long long time.
