nateman_doo reggiesanchez ya just the vid cards but there are plenty of cpu benches if you got the time. yea, but without LN2, I don't foresee any records or titles. now whats your draining water problems? No prob I think my vregs arent hitting my water block due to lack of or bad contact and I really think I can get this card top 5 no prob, was going to drain the water out of my rig, but Ill just wait for my mag 5 then ill redo the whole loop AGAIN.

nateman_doo Do you think anyone would notice if I yanked out the processor in my work computer for a weekend of E8400 benching? I don't see my work CPU being a cherry. My school has a lab full of W3520s.. you think they would notice 16 missing $300 CPUs? on the note of the older benchies.. wolfdale is the king of 01 and will be for quite some time. go for the highest FSB you can with some tight memory timings and it will help you considerably

well my socket 775 tests failed badly... my old asus p5n-e sli just hasnt got enought optionsm to stabalise anything over a 45-50% OC. i got the E2140 to 2.7 then it refused to boot properlly and nothing i could do helped it :s and my E4400 i could only get to 3.2 and couldnt stableise /cry. i think i might whack the GTS 250s in my main rig and see what i can push out of them with a i7 at 4ghz behind them :) think i can get 20k in vantage with 2 250s?

John, on the topic of socket 775, what do you think (or know) is the best board for clocking 45nm Yorkfield quads on? I know Gigabyte's are good quad clockers, but do you know of any specific board that really makes quads scream? I have a DFI UT P35 that is my "official" benching board. Now i also have my 750i FTW though, seeing as my i7 replaced the guts of my main system. With the 750i FTW and my q9300, i was able to hit 3460mhz, which is around 460fsb without much tweaking...I'll probably try to max the 750i FTW while the q9300 is still in it, then see what the DFI can do. Oh, and also get around to figuring out how to clock i7's.

hey rabid 790i ftw is a really good board or any that use the 790 chipset with ddr3 are going to give you a big advantage.

avoid the 780i, go for a 790i if you need SLI.. otherwise intel chipsets are far superior

i need something with a few PCI-e slots, most of the intel chipsets are either 1 PCI-e or they only support xfire :(

well yea.. the first intel chipset to support SLI was the x58 series.. which is why i said "unless you need SLI" ;)

I am rigging up a 775 as we speak. I brought my 790/Q6600 to work. I brought my foam, so i am going to have some fun making foam inserts. Then when I work up the nerve, I will hook up my chiller and have some fun with that.

try for any cpu based test most of them are looking for raw speed so if you think you cant get it faster than your i7 you might be using the wrong cpu. Try to score a e7xxx cpu those sell for pretty cheap I had a 7400 at 4.2 on air I cant imagine how I you could get it with that beautifull block. Even if you cant get it faster than an I7 you should be able to get quite a bit of points just for posting results in 2 catigories i7 and 6600. Oh yea i meant im trying to rig a socket 775 block to a 8500 card if I get it running ill take pics

Go for 3dmark01, Nate. Otherwise, your i7 should handle the other gpu tests better. And of course get some cpu tests in with your Q6600 (wprime, superpi). You probably have a good shot at some bigger points with the Q6600 cpu tests, as there's a lot of competition, therefore bigger point awards.

I am scared, cause that 790 is my backup computer. I booger that one up, and I am silenced. I have 2 videocards inbound this week i hope, this way I can try for some hardware records. I think CPU tests are limited to strictly LN2 folk. I have a good shot at any GPU records cause I get any GPU below freezing.

No matter what I clock the cards too, the CPU is so much more important in the overall score. Also watching GPU temps, they never go above 0°C, but CPU's always above freezing. In Vantage, the CPU temp is below freezing until the CPU test. Total CPU bottleneck
