With instability in the world markets primarily due to the Ukraine invasion prices will probably edge higher.

The top photo was taken today on my way home. The second photo was from the
same gas station on November 7th 2020 and was in post #10 in this thread.
I think it was the same pump as well

And yet supply has not decreased, although personally I think it's a little contradictory buying oil from Russia while levying sanctions, but I digress...

Technically supply has decreased on a global scale when you take one major supplier out of the equation (by not buying from them).

Except the US is still buying from Russia, unless that's changed in the last 24 hours - but the prices have been going up for days. I realize it's based on fear, but still...

The last couple of times we had big spikes in oil prices (over the last ~15 years), I noticed all the car service companies in NYC put their prices up. Fair enough, except when the oil prices went back down, the car service prices did not. I'm sure they will bump them up again, if they haven't already.

Everything goes up except salaries.

our area Sam's Club   Reg = $4.159   Prem = $4.359  (must be our State fuel tax & transportation costs is lower ?) and 2 adjoining by States are even cheaper

oil contracts ARE  Futures ..... why in the .... are gases prices jumping every day .... the oil price of today should not impact for 30 - 90 days @ the earliest

seems consumers are getting the short end yet again

@coolgtx all speculation fears.  If the current administration would announce an increase in domestic production, it would bring prices down overnight (even if it takes a little time before that extra oil is pumping).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe gas stations can only charge prices relative to the cost of the gas in their storage tanks at any given time. If so, then busy gas stations in cities would increase prices much quicker than a small town, since the city gas stations replenish their holdings much sooner and more often then small towns. That might explain the fairly wide variation in prices.

Keep in mind that as gas prices spike people will start to syphon gas. If you have a car low to the ground, it might be a great time to invest in a good quality locking gas cap. It's probably a good idea even if you have a latch on the inside of the car since a screw driver could pop that open pretty easily in most cases. Cars that sit higher up to the point that people can climb underneath them might have the fuel line cut or gas tank drilled into by someone who wants the fuel but I think that it's also very likely someone is going to just go down the block to another car if they found a locking gas cap on one of those. Other things to consider is motion triggered lights or a camera since thieves don't like to be easily seen. Other tips would be to park so the fuel tank is facing an open space instead of next to a bush or another car that someone driving by would be less likely to notice the thief between as they steal the gas. Also probably goes without saying if you see someone walking around the neighborhood with a gas can it might be a good idea to let neighbors know since someone might know they are just the new guy in the area filling up his lawn mower or if it's something to be worried about.

I don’t think so, up here anyway. Our prices are rising everyday sometimes twice a day, and there are no gas lines and normal pump usage seems to be happening. I could be wrong though.

$4.999/gal today at the Costco in Santa Clara, CA
This will probably be the last day for awhile that we get gas here for less than $5/gal.

$5 +  here everywhere for now. San Diego,CA.
Good thing is I don't need gas but charge. (I can charge free though.)
San Diego electricity is the most expensive in the nation as a separate subject!

Most big cities will have a digital price sign that can be changed remotely. If you go out into a smaller town they might have a manual sign that gets changed once or twice a day.

This really happens frequently? I mean, a buck more a gallon and folks will really spend time to siphon gas when the max they'll probably get might be whatever fits in a 5 gallon container?

I mean, I guess If it happens once it's worth the investment you're talking about in locking gas caps.

Yes it's a problem that happens since that 5 gallons of gas is worth over $20 and who says someone can't have a couple five gallon containers with them? People have even gone so far as to drill into the gas tank to steal it or cutting the fuel line on high sitting trucks and SUV's. If you have gas stolen keep in mind that it should be reported even if an officer can not respond immediately as often times a thief will hit the area and they can connect multiple thefts to them and build a big case rather then have the person let off with a simple fine because the judge it was only the one time that they got caught doing it.

Here is a news story about it skyrocketing across the country:
The crime of gas siphoning skyrockets alongside price hikes (msn.com)

key take aways:
Locking gas caps can help
Stealing gas takes time try to make the car as visible as possible at night
Park indoors if possible
Look for puddles, open fuel door or the smell of gas before driving off
Make sure the fuel gage is what you expect when you start your car
