Most excellent HK-Steve.

Thanks yodap,
I can not run Collatz as too hot here at the moment, so will concentrate on some more secret projects and get some more points....

I can't give you a GOOD answer to that, but my advice is that this is primarily a GPU project.  380 seconds for a GTX1080, versus days for a CPU.

No! Sick-turd-ashtray bumped you guys down to 4th! Fight!

You guys know to optimize your GPU config files, right? It may take some experimenting, but if you haven't done this yet, it can reduce your run time significantly! You will get slightly less points per task, but many more tasks per day will get completed.

Here is a link if you are curious. The good part is about the 10th post from the top. If you have a 1070 or above, I can tell you that it works wonders just the way it is typed in the 10th post. The files you are to modify are blank, empty, by default. Simply copy the info, open those files (with text editor), paste, save and read config files, maybe restart BOINC if it doesn't take effect.

Good luck, hope to see you reclaim your spot!

Awesome tony, thanks. Good results on my 1070 and 980ti so far.
The top wu below was at 90% when I hit the read config switch. The next 2 tell the story. They were averaging about 20 on the 980ti.

I've noticed the gap between us shrinking in the last few updates. From 12 million to 5.5 in 8 hours or so.
It's on baby!

I am confident you will regain 3rd place in this Sprint. But, well, you will need to let TAAT stay ahead of you of course, in the marathon.

Next year you will graduate and move on and we will still be dealing with the un-pronouncables. How much fun is that?
You guys can still grab the gold on this one. Just do it!

To get max performance edit your config files like 10esseetony pointed out. Time wise it's close to a buy 1 get 1 free/ 2 for 1 sale !!

Is that better than running two tasks at once?
I always have run 2 tasks on the gpu for this project.

I cannot answer that but I can show times from when I didn't edit to after I did edit the file. You do lose a few points though, but the times make up for it.

Bill it works with running 2 at once. Doubles output. I did it on my 1070 until I added my 780 into that rig. Then I stopped 2 at once because the 780 is a blast furnace.

Quick explanation of what happens with the code. If your card takes 20 minutes to do a wu and yo get 35000 for it, you do 105k/hr. With code your wu finishes in 8 minutes and get 28000 for it and you do 210k/hr (7.5 wu/hr x 28000k) ymmv but you can see it.

No no no Bill! 2 at once (in my experience) isn't even in the same league as the .config file mod. And super-congrats to all for reclaiming 3rd place!

Sometimes there is a x64 and a x86 file, but open up your collatz folder and find your .config file(s) and modify them asap! (If I remember correctly these are 'tuned' for a 980Ti, but it works wonders on most modern cards. At least give it a try for a few workunits.)

Just post this into those (usually empty) .CONFIG folders:

verbose=1
kernels_per_reduction=48
threads=8
lut_size=17
sieve_size=30
cache_sieve=1
sleep=1
reduce_cpu=0

I am still doing 2 at a time and I added that to the GPu config.
it did cut my times quite a lot on my 980Ti and Titan Xm
Not so much on my 1080, just a little bit. every little bit helps
Thanks for the tip!

 My six (EVGA of course) 1080s each run one task in 380 seconds with the config mod (founder editions with no overclock, most 1080s are faster). How long for two, Bill? If 760 seconds or less, cool, no changes needed.

TAAT does have one user with a 1080Ti who has established two tasks are better, with config mod included, but far and wide all I have seen is advice to run only one instance.

( I hope I'm not coming across as arrogant or condescending or any such thing, I'm basically an idiot with expensive hobbies, and I'm just trying to help others get every ounce of performance for their hard earned electricity dollars. )

Again, congrats to all on retaking 3rd place!

1080 = 645 - 718 seconds I would say 690 looks to be average time if I were to add them all and divide.

GTX980Ti = 954 - 988  975 looks to be average

Titan Xm = 904 - 941  920 looks to be average  Titan Xm

The Titan was at 1800 before and the 980Ti was at 1950 seconds

The 1080 is running at 1974mhz
The 980Ti anf titan-X are running at 1350mhz
