Suggestions welcome, otherwise I am off to bed with not much Crunching going on.. Might go back to Enigma and see how far we get??

Last time we ran this project I had such a hard time with it. Meh Can't win them all. Maybe while everyone else is looking at this shinny coin we can sneak in and take something else.

This was part of the 2017 pentathlon hosted by SETI.Germany: https://www.seti-germany.de/boinc_pentathlon/ this year. If you do try to bunker LHC you need to pull your network cable, disabling the network card will cause the VM to stop running. https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/prefs.php?subset=project this works to set Projects http://lhcathomeclassic.cern.ch/sixtrack/prefs.php?subset=project This one Fails to work HT is ON and not config file used, only Preferences Set. SIXTRACK is based at CERN. You can run it under the LHC@home application. Read more about the: Apps https://lhcathome.cern.ch/lhcathome/apps.phpApp Number of Tasks Ready SixTrack 1817307 Number I got to test Zero sixtracktest 0 CMS Simulation 7331 Number I got to test 1 Download Size 650MB 2GB VM Memory Runtime 8.5 Hours Can only use 1 CPU for this VM Task. LHCb Simulation 49504 Number I got to test Zero Theory Simulation 55830 Number I got to test 1 Download Size 310MB 630MB VM Memory Runtime 9 Hours ATLAS (This one is a Killer on Computers) Needs Lots of Memory if I recall. You Can Set the Numbers of CPU Threads to use as well ATLAS Simulation 6758 Number I got to test 1 Download Size 1.1GB MB 5GB VM Memory Runtime 2.5 Hours Now I recall way I stopped running ATLAS or LHC@home was because it takes all my network bandwidth. Could Be CMS Simulation v47.60 (vbox64) windows_x86_64 Or Even Theory Simulation v263.20 (vbox64) windows_x86_64 ALICE Simulation 0 Benchmark Application 0 Disk size needed for the Above is just under 6GB and Times Are Start Times. I will post competed time as they complete. You will also see some "Error while computing" that I think is normal for this Project and others will run fine. I have to retest ATLAS because I set it to 3 CPU's in error so I will change it to 4 CPUs and test and then down to only 2 CPUs (4 CPU) (RYZEN) ATLAS Simulation 6758 Number I got to test 1 Download Size 1.1GB MB 5.8GB VM Memory Runtime 1.6 Hours The more Threads you give ATLAS the More Memory is needed for the VM. Running 6 ATLAS 8 Threads Each and Each VM takes 9GB of VM Memory Runtime about 1.4 Hours Run time (sec) 3,017.62 CPU time (sec) 6,938.77 Credit 126.57 Ryzen (4 Threads) Run time (sec) 6,163.65 CPU time (sec) 14,783.78 Credit 188.57 Intel (3 Threads) Now Testing (4 Threads) on Intel The Large Download Sizes are only on the First Task you download and like for ATLAS each new task is less than 120MB. I will keep all my Testing in this Post. MORE TO COME

I like this. I'll start looking at some back doors. Thanks bcav I will pull my cable. I'm bunkering 3 but don't know if I'll run any more.

Atlas is being weird for me.. got it running on my dual e5-2680 setup (HT off) so 16 cores, have 2 - 8cpu tasks going, only using 20% of processor (only took 20 min per task though).. setting project to download all tasks now. Might disable atlas.

well not too late to bunker a few. Doesn't really start for another 5 hours 15 min So far the only job to actually fully utilize my cpus has been SixTrack SSE2. SixTrack pni maxes out between 20-40% with 16 tasks (1 per core) and Atlas multi-thread at 2x8core does the same 20-40% utilization. Have my network use suspended right now so I can't test the rest yet.. Just weird..

That is a bummer... I have been working on a project as LHC did not work for me, a secret as others watch our forum.. but have jumped us up 1 spot overnight, hopefully another spot by the end of this weekend!!!!!

Just got the 4GB LHCb vdi!!! watch out for that one.. Theory vdi @ 1 GB. CMS and atlas vdi @ 1.6 GB. But the same virtual disc image seems to run multiple tasks, with the tasks being much smaller.

no atlas tasks available now.. boo.. seemed to be the best for points. Guess I'll just run LHCb's.. side note.. when vbox crashes and you need to reinstall it's a friggen nightmare! 1st: uninstalling everything!!! RESTART. Then reinstall vbox first and RESTART again, then installing boinc on reboot.. kept getting that virtualbox not installed message.. that took way too much time!!!

and now running lhcb i can only run 12/16 tasks because of the memory usage.. basically 1 GB per task even on vbox. booo and it won't allow virtual memory.. so my 32 GB just isn't enough.. 80% cpu utilization it is then

Sixtrack Tasks are Flowing now. Nice about ATLAS is you can set it run on 4 6 or 8 Threads but the more Threads you give it the more VM memory us needed. I just set ATLAS to use 8 Threads (9GB VM Memory) and give the rest to Sixtrack

+1 I'm getting plenty of Sixtrack now. 1 day down and in 4th spot. We've got some heavy lifting to do if we want to move into the top 3.

My game plan was to run ATLAS for 500 to 1000 Points. Sixtrack is from 2 to 100 so for that I have seen. Big drop Today in temps current 53.3F this time yesterday at this time 91.6F

Thanks to all who have been sticking it out in LHC, because of you we are only 3 points out of 7th place in the overall Formula Boinc standings. I was only able to run 3 tasks at once so decided to help elsewhere. HK-Steve and I are working a CPU project that we hope to gain 2 more points in a few days. If anyone wants to help with a CPU project, shoot either of us PM. (We're being stealthy)

sucks that atlas is completely out of tasks. Those are by far the best bang for your buck. Literally everything else is about 1/2 the points. Some sixtrack are only worth 5 points! **** is that!?
LHCb seems to be pulling in a good amount for me. running 8 at a time @ 250-500 pts per task. But my god do they take up memory. And Hard drive space.. and bandwidth.

Sixtrack stop some time last night but are back now also, sixtrack_validator There will be a (very) short interruption while I install a new sixtrack_validator. Should fix null/empty fort.10 and the nasty "outlier" problem. See SixTrack Application, sixtrack_validator for more news and details. 24 Jun 2017, 9:21:04 UTC · CommentNo more bandwidth Hogs for me as well so good that Sixtrack are now back. (ATLAS tasks are ok) It would be nice if they would split Sixtrack in to two runs short a and long one. Short being less than 1 Hour Long being 6-9 Hours.

I said the same so I got two 2GB SAS Drives to add to my server so I have the room. SSD Server Drives are nice but the cost is through the roof. 2 SAS Drives will have to do. Climate @ Home is a hard project to run as well and once they start you CANNOT stop because the VM will fail to start back up. A know issue so you all know. Lost 41 Tasks because of 99.99% full on the hard drive and they all crashed.
