Thanks Enewt. So encouraging to see all of these folks getting cards.

Especially after i just saw this:

Damn, that's depressing. This is why we cannot have nice things.

Really conflicted. Should I go for the new 80+ Gold 1000w G6, or 80+ platinum super flower. Hmmmm what to do, what to do.

I don't think that's why we can't have nice things.  11 lines are still queued to October, 9 of which are still stuck in September.  The causal relationship here is in the other direction.  We can't/don't have nice things, therefore the restricted commodity has become vulnerable to reselling.  Maybe the reddit user knew back in mid-September that the card for which they joined queue would be on an 8 month delay and potentially re-sell for >2x MSRP when it finally shipped, but I choose to hope that most people joining queue at launch were not doing so with the intent to scalp product.

Its all about timing: if you bought an Ebay 3080 in Dec and signed up for the Elite and the KPE que and got it in the last week and turned around and sold the 3080 on ebay ;  you would Have a KPE for a less than 300 $, that's one heck of a step up plan !

How does the notification system for elite 24 hour access work, how will it prevent non-elite from queueing? Will there be a separate page to buy (eg: 3080ti) in the Elite Home?

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/05/27 16:19:09 (permalink)
So below is a quick plot I made of all the notifications so far. I tried to get the historical data the enewt has compiled but it seems that there is no easy way to get it. This data comes from the spreadsheet on reddit, which I'm pretty sure most of you are familiar with. I removed all the points that didn't really make sense. The linear fit on the data is obviously not great so it can be ignored for any extrapolation purposed. If I forecast it to my 3897 queue sign-up date (10/13/2021 ~8:00 AM), I will be waiting 3 years for my card. This is based on the fact that thus far, every 24 hours the increase notification time goes up by 44 days. As you can see on the plot, this will likely not be the case as the increase in queue time seems to level off by september 20th, but there was a massive slowdown during the 21st, which is bad news.

HOWEVER, it seems that right now they've stabilized the queue time around 250 days with very little deviation. If they can keep it up, then it means that I will get my notification in 3 weeks (having signed up on 10/13). Now that is being wildly optimistic, and I anticipate that there will be eventually an increase in queue time.

FROM HEREON, IT IS PURELY SPECULATIVE:
While I don't believe that I will get my notification in 3 weeks, I do think I will get it by the end of the summer to late fall (late august to early december). This is based solely on the following highly speculative uneducated opinions:

  • While I'm hesitant to say there is a major, enduring crypto crash, it's obvious there is a slowdown. Check any mining subreddit. The upcoming reduction in gas fees and PoS implementation will likely make returns worse for miners.
  • The dramatic increase in time spent on queue for people who signed-up on the 21st could be the spillover from when mining profitability was record-high, chinese new year, shipping troubles, and peak scalping prices. All these issues have been mitigated to some extent.
  • I'm also inclined to believe that chip-shortage issues have been mitigated to some extent as car manufacturers are starting to resume production in plants that had shut down.
  • Vaccination has been highly effective in the US, and I guess the situation is under control in China and Taiwan, so manufacturing overall should be catching up. Shipping issues may be getting better, and airline tickets are getting back to normal pricing, meaning a lot of freight that was shipped on airliners will probably resume again.
  • Overall, I don't see things getting any worse, but it's extremely likely that they will get better.

Here is the plot I made:

The main point I'm trying to get across is that DO NOT GIVE IN TO SCALPERS. You don't want to be the ones that bought 3080's for whatever the hell they are going for now when they become more accessible a month or two later.

This is cool, I hope that it gets better, because if it does, that will help out a lot of people that love to program and game. Interesting speculation!

Yeah not having a GPU for gaming is not the end of the world as it is a luxury item, no one DESERVES a gpu. But it's annoying seeing scalpers extract a profit out of a product that's 6-7 times as much as the people who did all the work (NVIDIA, EVGA, freight, USPS/UPS). And they absolutely that nothing of value to it. Parasitic people, absolute leeches on society. And that's not still as bad as the miners, who take AWAY value from the product for an imaginary currency. I swear I've seen the absolute worst in people during the last year, all for a processor that will obsolete in a few years.

This is interesting there has been I would say an unprecedented movement in the last couple of days, especially with 3897. Either supply is better or they're clearing up their current inventory for the LHR SKUs and the Ti series. The first week of June will be very interesting.
