I'm a dog person.
It's good to have a general thread.

Dogs are mans best friend and I can prove it.

On a hot Summer day, put your wife, girlfriend or both in the trunk of your car with your dog.
Go for a ride around the block on the bumpiest road you can find.

Then open the trunk and see who is happy to see you, who wags their tail and wants to kiss you.

I wish I could have a Dog, but I have no yard for one and is not fair for a Lab size dog to live on or in a 11x12 balcony above ground.
For now R2 my sisters dog is my best dog friend. *all 69lbs.

Someone complained so I was a little worried someone was looking for information they where hoping to find and couldn't find it. Though really I don't think anyone was to far off topic for a general discussion and I don't think anyone was just posting to increase a post count. Really just want to make sure people who want to know about Crunching feel welcome. In a way this thread I feel this thread morphed away from what the original post was about and now returning to a general discussion felt odd.

Re: Crunching Team general open ended discussions 2017/05/29 07:03:09 (permalink)
I've had dogs my whole life, and currently we have 5.  I use their names for my crunching systems, so this is crunching-related.

Gavin, basenji, 30lbs, my daughter got him while in college (bad idea), one of her roommates abused him, so we kept him.  He's old and grumpy now and mostly does his own thing.
Juno, chihuahua, 5lbs, someone gave her to my daughter while she was in college (bad idea to give an animal as a surprise gift), she got stolen a week later during a breakin, detective found her a few weeks later, so we kept her.  She is my wife's little pal.
Sheldon, beagle, 30 lbs, found by animal control and turned in to the shelter, microchipped but owners didn't want to pay the $50 fee, so we adopted him.  He loves everybody as most beagles do.
Bella, toy fox terrier and mixed breeds, 10lbs, found her down by the river abandoned, never would have lasted the night with coyotes and bobcats around, so frightened she was literally paralyzed so we thought she had been hit by a car.   I was finally able to get her to stand up and walk, and she's been my little buddy ever since.
Kenny, chihuahua, 12lbs, abandoned on the street by his owners after 10 years.  We fostered him from the local shelter because he would have died there, not eating and lost a lot of his hair.  After a year nobody wanted this old, heartworm-positive, partially housebroken dog, so we adopted him too.   His hair has grown back, increased his weight 50%, and he's happy but still has trouble trusting people (I don't blame him).

Before this current set we had as many as 4 beagles at once, and before that labs.  When the last lab Willy passed we decided to get smaller dogs; Willy gradually lost the use of his back legs, so I had to carry him a lot, and when you get older with a bad back, 70 pounds is a lot to carry.

RIP Morgan my female Chocolate Lab, 13 yrs old and same situation. I had to have her put down recently and miss her dearly. I have my Male, Hunter who is at this point now and overweight......lets just say he weighs more than your 5 pups together. I have to carry him up the stairs 3x a day. I now have 2-5MO Lab/Mastiff puppies that my boys got me for Christmas (I wanted Labs not Mastadors LOL) They brought them home on a weekend from KS where they are stationed and surprised me. They showed me Duke first and said they couldn't afford a purebred Lab so they got him since he looked like Hunter (black) and then proceeded to let me know about the "mix" with a chuckle. Then brought out Lily and mentioned they were brother and sister, she is Brindle colored. I now have my Labs and Mastiffs except they are a AIO set up.

OH!!!! The new pups CRUNCH sticks and toys like they are nothing, even steal my shoes from time to time.

This is Gypsy, she is a Shepard mix. Rescue from a kill shelter in the South and brought up here.
A local pet store has adoption day on Saturday. She was a few months old when we got her.
She has her tennis ball with her. She loves her ballie ball

Pretty much moved back to Folding, Crunching @ times since I lack CPU HP. I was running both on the same rig but was killing my Folding performance, even with setting my BOINC preferences to 1 core of the CPU. Also, with summer coming I have changed to a weekend Folder (when I am home) for the most part.

I have been fighting this for 25 years, I have bad days and some not as bad days.
Some good days thrown in once in a while. If I wake up with no pain I pinch myself to make sure I did not wake up dead.
Getting older, family history and the job I did all my life, it is taking its toll.
I try to keep busy and not think about it, it could be a worse. Everyone has "something" to deal with.

if its musclar, i've found the essential oil cream "deep blue" to be awesome.  Just think of it as bengay on steroids.  We basically use about 1/10 the amount we would if we were to apply bengay to the area and feel its more effective.  I get a lot of back spasms so its helped a lot since I was introduced to it.  I dont encourage you bite into the whole essential oil craze but there are some useful ones if you want to use anything other than the western medicine.  Its just another alternative therapy thats backed by scientific evidence to be helpful.

Sorry for the delay Bill. I am going to be very limited on the site for another 30 weeks. I work 60+ hours a week, and I am taking a class to become accredited. It needs another 15 hours a week. My spare time, sadly, is very limited and I give it to my family as much as I can.

I am still here though! Not going anywhere.

As for POTM. I think your would be great at picking them

I have been fighting lower back and neck problems for at least 25 years - I have been getting RFA radio frequency ablation where they go in and cauterize the medial branch nerves and it cuts down on the pain (My lower back). My neck is pretty bad too. I have braces I am supposed to wear. I was never in a wreck - well none serious. Just became unbearable three years ago. Sitting on my butt all day for 10 years probably has not helped. Anyway -
I saw the biggest dog ever this past weekend at this little bar near Tampa - it was a great dane that dwarfed ME - This dog got startled or something and it sounded like a dinosaur, i nearly wet myself - the whole place went dead silent. I spoke with the owner later and she said he was fine, to which I asked "what's it like when he is not fine and really mad?' and she said it's rare but a pretty big deal.
So I now have 2 of my boxes crunching!

Bill, 9lb Walleye, nice! How long was it? Any Northern Pike, Musky, Lake trout or land locked salmon in that lake?
I was looking at the link to the lake, looks like a very nice place to go fishing and camping.
Nice to get away on vacation to do some fishing.

9 to 1 Yanks won  WOOT.
Kids are home and picked up Aria, they had great seats and had a great time. Field level seats at the foul pole 5 rows in!
My brother-in-law won 4 tickets so he took my daughter, son-in-law and grandson.
My grandson graduated H.S. this year so it was a graduation present. Yeah he graduated HS and has a baby, baby sister.

On another note, I got another Asus x79 WS/ipmi board up and running with an E5-1650 will have a GTX980Ti I just picked up.
Installing Windows 10Pro right now. Not sure I will have it finished tonight, still a lot to install. Updating now

These Asus boards have been a pain to figure out since Asus has zero info about them on their site and they know nothing.
I found on the internet the drivers, BIOS files, MB manuals and the software that goes with them.
I have it all now with no help from Asus. These were new x79 boards with a 5 year warranty
They are real nice x79WS boards and used 6 core and 8 core CPUs on ebay. The E5-16XX (i7-3930K) CPUs O/C real well
The price to put together MB, CPU and mem is still less than what just those 3930K CPUs cost new.
Bought 8$ windows 7pro OEM keys and they still activate win10 pro NICE!
I like used hardware, no way in hell could I do this buying all new hardware.
Ebay and a few forums for sale sections help so much.

Sounds like they had a great day..

Awesome for the extra gear, we are going to need it..
Fingerscrossed it all goes smoothly from now on..

Going to be hot here after tomorrow, in the 90s for not very good crunching weather.
I really wanted to go all out for the PG challenge, maybe overnight when it is cooler out.

Life is too short to carry a cheap pocket knife
