Hey Jacob, Quick question. What is the additional 6pin PCIE power connector located at the bottom right side of the MB for? I read the users manual but didn't find any verbiage on that. Thanks

Looking good. I have a question about the upgrade program though. unless I'm missing the obvious the prices given are only in USD (I notice the EU prices are still TBA), is the upgrade process open to all or only US customers at this time? and if open to EU what are the likely prices? Edit: Nevermind just noticed the article and terms have been updated

PCIe cards can draw up to 75W from the PCIe slot, with multiple cards that can burn out the 24pin main power connector, that's why all enthusiast boards have additional PCIe power.

@dustin Back when the X58's came out, the larger number of people running 3-way and 4-way SLI showed that people started having issues where the 24-pin connector on either the psu or motherboard would heat up to the point that it would melt in some (but not all) cases. This wasn't just an EVGA issue; it was more of an industry-wide issue. To prevent that, EVGA offered a quick fix as a pci-e in-slot power, but all manufacturers started offering boards that had the extra 6-pin (or 2) to provide extra power to the pci-e lanes. From what I've heard, people who had that issue noticed an immediate drop in the heat around the 24-pin connector when using the additional power connectors.

Very kewl! However, I notice on the product page that the "Details" and the "Features" tab have different information. "Details" says 8 DIMM slots for 64 GB total RAM, but "Features" says 4 DIMM slots for a total of 32 GB. Also, "Features" lists POSCAP, but I thought they are not used on the Dark.

Do we get a independent review on reliability/long-term on the X79 Dark?
I think you owe some of us older members some show in eVGA's ability to produce a solid Bois/motherboard?

Can you please send me a few screens shots to chrisb@evga.com along with a link to the page where these errors were located? Thank you for your feedback. jbgrobler Very kewl! Zenophobe why do such a redesign when the new Haswell will be a brand new 2011 socket.. Not compatible with current 2011 socket.? http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2013/06/14/intel-roadmap-leak/1 Because not everyone upgrades to the newest platforms and evga had to right their wrong. You question is kinda like asking why did anyone make z77 when haswell wasn't going to be compatible

Why in gods green earth do you need our x79 motherboards in your hands first? You would put most of us out of a PC for a week or 2. Allow us to cross ship like usual. Charge our credit cards if you have to until you get our motherboards and the process is completed. I don't want to be out of a PC for 2 weeks or more. Treat this upgrade like an RMA process. Most of us customers are upgrading to the Dark because we feel like we are RMAing our motherboards.

Dear bigmyke, I am very sorry for any inconvenience as I can confirm that this is not a RMA process, but rather an optional upgrade process. If you do want to process an RMA on your product we are here to assist you with the RMA options including the Standard Cross Shipment Process. Please email me with any issues you are having and I can help you with troubleshooting your product further. chrisb@evga.com bigmyke Why in gods green earth do you need our x79 motherboards in your hands first? Not really much incentive to change from my Gigabyte UP4 then =/ For a winning motherboard there needs to be an X79 equivalent to the EVGA X58 Classifed 4-Way SLI. That mobo could do almost every PCI-E lane at 16x. I hope u guys make an X99 mobo that can do what the 4-Way Classy could
