here's an idea: you got a good temp decrease out of the basic heatsink as part of the WC block.  Why not make a WC block with just a plain flat top, and then add any comsumer air cooler on top of it?  just wondering if a high end air cooler would provide a further cooling over the basic heatsink and fan?

Mounting an air cooler to a water block?  Then the cooler won't be making contact with the CPU, but with the copper water block.  Seems silly.

While it is not ideal in terms of over all transfer rates, copper still moves quite a bit of heat. It would work quite well in terms of a little extra boost, just not perfect.

Lol...simple solution would be to mill a bracket for attaching a 120mm performance fan that fastens to long mounting screws. This would give you quieter operation and loads of cool air blowing down on all parts surrounding CPU socket...e.g. vregs, mosfets, caps, bridge, controller chips, memory, factory Mob cooling fins, not to mention the CPU cooler itself

Lmao...The cooler is "IS" making contact with the CPU...look at the pic's. CPU on Mobo, cooler on CPU, Fan on top of cooler fins...not in- between CPu and cooler. The water in the block absorbs heat off CPU, the fins draw heat from block and water, the fan blows cool air down over fins allowing fins to remain cooler than block to draw more heat from block and water. it's so simple. you cant see this?

Why quote a post that is so old?  Regarding docta_tucka's post, I imagined having a big tower cooler on top of a copper water block.  My old post there was extremely stupid I must say, must have been very late.

Sorry Bg...I hardly ever remember to look at the post dates.
I really need to get in the habit of doing that.

Quick! Patent it!

And i would love to buy something like this if i could find it... One of my main worries with letting my system run when i am away is it springing a leak and overheating. or my pump stop spinning...

And your block seems to perform better than a standard water block so it seems like a win win!

Water pumps through it like any other waterblock, but it has a radiator built into it-unlike any other block.

Yeah my bad lol, I just seen it, and thought the water was sealed in there, didn't see you still need a loop and all.

he has also been delayed because of the shear numbers of the sr2 block he sold i would guess he made close to 60 of them just from the thread comments i saw.

60 SR2 blocks?!  I can't quite keep up that volume with the current mill.  the NEW mill if I take days to re-program that code could probably make one in a single day.   There is way too much re-positioning of material on my smaller mill.

I haven't forgotten about these, just trying to get my machines back up and running.  Once I have 2 machines.. then I can start back on this project.

Any update, got your other Mill up yet?  This was one of the best ideas I had seen in a long time, and you love to see it compared to a Raystorm or a Apogee HD.
Hope this turns out as well as it looks like it could!

Here is an update as of yesterday:

Funny how your timing is.  I just bought the concrete blocks (not cinderblocks) 12x18x16 or something for the base of that mill.  I am going to start building the stand for it.  I already allocated the new space for it in my basement.

I plan to pick up the wood for it in the next day or 2.  Its the little things I can do while my machine is running cycles, that makes productivity.

You get a new ride, or am I thinking of someone else I saw stuffing a LN2 tank into a 323 in the forums a while back?

That was my wifes mazda Protege 5 which I drive back and fourth to work. This was a rental since my wife got my Jeep sideswiped.  I like this car WAY better, but when it snows I like the 4WD Jeep.  I would NEVER put all that concrete is a car like that (if it was mine).  That should be against the law.  There is 10 blocks, 9 in the trunk and 1 in the back seat.

Its just funny I haven't done much to the machine in a while since I have been so busy.  Just got a wild hair up my .... when I said its never gonna get done until I take another step.  And the fact that I thought to take a "progress picture", and you asked for an update the next day is more eerie.  Are you guys tapping my thoughts or something??

DUDE!  This is badass!!  Nice work man, I can't wait to see your final product!  Once you get it perfect and dialed in I hope that you can put some sort of design patent on it or something, this is a great idea and something most do not have the facilities to fabricate on their own, and also something that others (including other companies I'd imagine) would pay good $$ for!

Go down to the local college and look for a apprentice... I know tons of kids that are looking for work study or intern or apprentice time to put on their resume.

Of course we are tapping your thoughts..... why wouldnt we?  :)  Sorry to hear about the accident, and I hope all is well, and yeah, you shouldnt put heavy blocks into a nice ride like that.  Glad we could help you get the push you needed, as many here are excited to see the project move forward.  Brilliant idea, never knew why someone didnt do it sooner.

Nick, excellent idea.  Free help is the best kind.  Heck, i'd like to give you a hand, but im on the opposite side of the country :D

A smart kid/person/student will not see it as "free" help. You cant put a price on knowledge and experience. you can get knowledge from school but it is very hard to get experience. Building a resume is not a cheap thing to do and again they should be grateful for the chance to start building it even if they don't get green paper from the work each month.

unpaid internships are great, it shows future employers that the person is in it for more than just the green, that they will work hard to get a spot and show what they can do.

Same here I would help just to get a free block out of it  hehe also just for the experience, not the field I am in but I love to learn new things and this would be cool.

Nick, you are 100% right, experience is golden.  I meant free, as far as, no green out of Nates pocket.  But, a intern is a great idea.

Yeah Nate, finish it off already  :p  Continue the blasphemy of machines building machines LOL.
