It doesn't matter what you posted there.  It was the fact that you haven't posted anything in 4 years, and then you come here and say hello.  That makes me smile.

What brought your return back here anyway?

Took some pictures yesterday, and some measurements.

I would say the bare minimum of clearance for the block & fan alone is 80mm. (yes its shorter, but you need a gap to get air in the fan).  That is without the springs though...

Thanks for those measurements man, that really is a thing of beauty!

Here is a picture of where one of them should be ending up, and as with everything in this case it will be snug but it looks like it should fit just fine :)

Ii will see if I can find some very short springs.  I don't see any problems with just bolts, but I will dig around for springs.

You have a PM ;)

The internals allow for more surface area of water touching copper then any other waterblock around.  That much I am sure of.

I found some precision springs that might foot the bill, but not sure how much pressure they are going to force down.  Considering your motherboard is vertical shouldn't be a problem.  I just need to make some measurements.

If ya need anything more from me then just ask :)

I have to say its nice after all this time to finally see my case coming together, I can not wait until it has the 'worthy' waterblocks in it as well :)

<Edit> Is it possible to rotate the blocks mounting position by one quarter turn clockwise?  </Edit>

Yeah, Right now I have two 90 degree rotary fittings on my cpu waterblock so the tube can go under the PSU over the RAM and to wherever from there... silly PSU in the way of everything.

I was thinking about going that route with you.  Since mine hangs off the board about 1/4" or so I was thinking that might be a problem in your case.  I will make it happen.

cool block, i would love to see a zalman9700 or v8 with a water block too. im not sure how much better it would work but it would make for a great fail safe system.

Cool block and innovative design and awesome execution.

What is with the massive difference in ambient or case temp though?

Your block test = GPU - 51C, Vreg - 36C, System - 31C
HK block test    = GPU - 69C, Vreg - 69C, System - 50C

Send one out for a real comparison before too much snake oil gets sold.

Re:Finally! Air Cooled CPU Waterblock! 2010/06/28 04:44:28 (permalink)
Thanks & Welcome to the Forums!  The key difference between my block, and traditional water blocks... A 90mm fan blowing at full blast during the test which throws out more air then the 120mm fans in the radiator.  The fan is pulling in some of cool air that is surrounding the case which would normally just sit outside the case.

Believe me when I say there is room for improvement.  I just did as realistic a test and almost worst case as possible.  The test was IN a case, not on a bench, a single dual radiator, and some craptastic coolermaster fans.  Since there is no "universal" CPU test they only way to do it is to replicate the same test for each block.

The control measures were:
the same ambient temps
same thermal paste
same case/mobo/cpu
same lines/pump/rad/fans
same prime95 test with identical durations and temp recording software.

As you can see in the pictures I conducted as unbiased and identical test as I could (with the exception of the additional video card during my blocks test which would be in favor of the HK block).  Same ambient temps (AC cycled between 71-74°F), and the side of the case was off.  Just swapped out the block in each test.

I don't have to send anything out to anyone & I appreciate the integrity check.  I have been running that very same block on air alone since I made it.  I only pumped water through it for the test.  There is just something to be said about a few pounds of copper vs a tiny copper "shim".

No snake oil here my friend.

Wow, those people are definitely raging over there. I think most of them miss the beauty of this thing. Nate, would you mind sending me a PM of your asking price? I may go to water this summer and if I do, I would love to see this block in action.
