Sweet and simple.
that massive fan definitely did the trick.
How does it perform with a low dB fan though?
around say 1600rpm?

Nice work and congrats on it nate.

With the Smart fan on auto, the fan is whisper quiet.  On a full load, the board will allow the CPU to get to 59°C, then it will kick the fan into overdrive, and you can watch the fan dance just enough to keep it at 59°C.  I saw it go up to 61°C once or twice, but the mass alone is enough to counter any "swing" in temps.

That's one huge block lots of mass, very nice. Looks like it would hold chiller temps really well!

On the contrary, I would not use the fan for a chiller.  The mass can absorb lots of cold, but the fan would almost introduce heat into the line.  I would completely seal off the fins and encase the entire block in foam.  Then you will almost have something of a mini dice pot action.  Not dice temps, but the same principals whereas the mass counters the swinging change in temps-in theory, I have yet to test this for sub-zero chillers.

I wouldn't use the fan with a chiller but like you said sealing off the fins while using a chiller would be really "cool". Don't see too many cpu blocks on the market with a lot of mass to them. But something like your block I think would be able to hold a lot of the chill. If you do test the block with your chiller I'd love to see resluts over your HK block

Simply amazing nateman_doo! Very impressed, I too always wondered exactly how much the heat the block retains would heat up a CPU.

9C Temp removal is a pretty nice result. Are you planning any more revisions to try to perfect your design any further?

Love it, 10/10 from me. I would love to see a block like this on my next system, ill PM you when that comes around.

thanks! There are way to many factors that I could use to doctor the results.  I could use multiple radiators, industrial fans, chilled water etc.  I will just leave the results as it is.  Just a comparison.

Just picture the gains that you can make though...   Better thermal paste, better radiator, more spacious case etc... each thing adds up to more improvements your way.

Very nice mill work there nate, It would be nice to see a joint venture between you and eVGA to produce this as a eVGA branded product, that would give them a very nice package with there gpu blocks and upcoming case.

Awesome. I've seen the concept thrown around on paper, but no one has has the guts to go and do it. I like it.
Now we just need to throw it against the best EK, WaterCool, and Swiftech can throw at it.
I might have to get one when I get my water cooling set-up this summer. That is an awesome thing Nate. You should be proud.

His outperformed the HeatKiller 3.0 by 9 degrees Celsius under load on his i7 920.  This used to be the best water block out there, I'm not sure what is the new king now.

Now..... this I would like to see

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.
