Man I just saw the trailer for the new survival shooter Aliens Fireteam coming out this summer... It looks BADASS!!!  Hopefully it doesn't turn into another Colonial Marines...

Let's hope we get some general movement across a wide array. I keep crossing fingers for Hybrid 3080 movement, but any movement is great to see for the greater good of the community.

The scalpers serve a legitimate market function. I don't like them but they exist because Nvidia and AIBs are not selling their products to gamers at the current market price. People can complain about scalpers all they want but even if they attempted a heavy handed approach, the cards would still be going the for the same price on ebay.
Err no the scalpers serve no function at all aside from putting another layer between the vendors and buyers and inflating the price of items... Scalpers are useless and should disappear.

I don't see much difference... really.
Here is my take on that. A person buying a card to build a computer for a customer is adding value to the card by doing the assembly of the custom rig. Thus they can charge for labor. A person buying a card only to resell it on ebay at 2x-3x the MSRP is not adding value other than acting as a middle man and that is a loose interpretation of the term. In fact they are a scalper and not worth giving the time of day let alone your hard earned cash.
I'd go a step further, a scalper is putting further barriers between someone wanting/needing to use a card (gaming/mining/graphic arts) and a card, at the same time actually reducing the value of that card by potentially removing the warranty leaving the end user with no recourse if the card is a lemon.
Another thing is those who need graphic cards because the current one no longer is working. There are no cards available to buy so they are out of luck. Not all cpu's have on-board graphics. My Ryzen 9 3900xt has to have a dedicated graphics card. If the card goes out, I'm done. Can't use my computer period. The problem is with scalpers. They don't care if some kid has to scrape up a years worth of allowance, or an adult has to save up their pennies, so they can buy a card. Bad enough the prices are high enough but scalpers are just outright ridiculous. The government made it illegal to scalp sports tickets (think it's a city ordinance and not a state law), but they ought to do that with computer parts.

The last couple of pages of this thread really show that many people have no idea how much time, effort and money goes into doing custom builds for people. I've spent far more money setting up my build station and acquiring the tools and hardware I need than I've ever gotten back as "profit."
I hear you. I've built several custom computers. It's not easy in the fact that if parts are not available then you have to either wait or find something else that's just as good. I just built my new r9-3900xt computer in Jan 2021. And when it came to the graphics card part, well, I'm out of luck. The older builds were no issue but this year is a pain. I stuck an old graphics card in there. Just hope there's movement on the cards this week.

uh u can buy a gt 1030 for a hundred bucks all day every day, I bought one Just in case I needed a gpu for one of the rigs with no IGPU.

When did I say I supported scalpers? I do not use a bot. I do not have money for a bot. I am patiently waiting in queue. Assuming things about people you do not know isn't a good way to start dialogue.

I feel ya. Im frustrated as well but most of it is at myself for signing up late for the queues. I made the mistake of thinking nvidia would ramp up production by the end of the year so I didn't sign up for most cards till dec. lmfao. Its important though to not wish ill will on others just because of the frustration.

Do you guys understand economics? The problem isn't the scalpers, it is the people who purchase the product at the scalped price. If people don't buy them for the markup the prices will drop in that market.
Scalpers are a problem, and so are the builders. They both are taking advantage of a supply issue because of the demand. Yes, scalpers are worse, but to dismiss those building and marking up is ridiculous.
Remember, if someone is willing to pay $1900 for a 3080, then that is the market price no matter what the msrp is.
