Once I get this card I will use it as primary till I get my 3080 hybrid, and then it will drive my secondary non gaming displays. Is 850w enough for idle 3060, oc 3080 hybrid and 5800x on asus crosshair viii formula? Or should I start looking for a 1kw unit?

Congratulations on your new 3060 XC3!  Unfortunately, no.  EVGA will not apply the discount retroactively. Again, congratulations on your new gaming goodness!

any 3898 movement?

There has been no 3898 movement since February 9th. It sounds like hybrid drops are going to be few and far between, at least for now.

I don't think it helps much when someone starts off with "having too much fun slapping cry babies" when they make an otherwise legitimate criticism.  On one hand, it is kind of like stealing Christmas from people when they realize what their wait may potentially be.  On the other, it's not a huge cabal.  Nvidia and eVGA aren't out to hose people over.  It's just a large cluster.  All's you can do is drive yourself mad scouring websites and twitter for card drops, only too often to have any order you try to place wind up sold out, or sit and wait.  Have a cup of coffee, and just relax.

Yeah, if you saw the childish posts that were going on in another thread, the statement would've made more sense, but you have a tendency to not read things fully, so I'll just only read the first sentence of your post in exchange.

And I love that you left out the "slapping cry babies with reality checks tonight/this morning" - they're acting like children, and getting hit with the truth.

In this case, that the fact I agreed with your overall take should suggest I read more than your first sentence (which actually talked about scorched earth).  Let me soften your statement, and instead phrase it as "I enjoy putting cry babies in their place."  Why?  I think you have some interesting posts, I catalogued the thermal pad switch on the KPE as something to maybe revisit one day when I am able to buy that card.  But other times, you cast a wide net with your disdain, and it can splash out onto other people who are just normal people frustrated with this crazy scalpageddon along with the massive hits manufacturing and supply chain have taken due to Covid-19.

Regardless, glad you got some rest.  You seem fully recovered.

Hmm. Received the notification for the more expensive back plate version, but not yet for the regular $329 black version which I requested only 30sec later. Is the queue for the base model really that much larger? If there is a limit of one card I may just go ahead and get the more expensive one and wait for the notification for the base model and get that one as well since I need 2 cards.

850w, provided it is relatively new, should be adequate unless you are doing significant overclocking or have an unusual set-up.  For me, with a hoped for 3090 (if the HCs ever release), will be going with the 1000w platinum.

They are very different queues...9:06:26 am vs 9:01:44 am.  Given how early your time is on the 3655, however, you are likely no more than 16 seconds away on the timeline.  That could be the next sizable drop (hopefully soon, but not this week) ... or it could be tomorrow if there are substantial stragglers.  Best of luck!

I mean it's either the 3897 or the 3898 they produce. You hardly ever see them both being released at the same time.

I wouldnt be surprised if we start seeing a large disparity between the two soon.

Just like how the black/gaming 3080s are basically nonexistent compared to the higher margin ftw3 ultra models.

Agreed on all counts except for mining. Miners are waiting in lines, waiting in queues, camping over night in the hopes of scoring a GPU. At least the small-timer miners that build small rigs and work dang hard to get their GPUs are actually using them instead of scalping them for a quick profit on someone else's hard work. The small time miner with one or two little rigs at home is a drop in the bucket compared to the epidemic botscalping going on for those with the means.

Now if you're referring specifically to the large scale mining operations buying 50-100 GPUs at a time, yes that is mega frustrating too. Or the miners scooping up overpriced ebay inventories in the hopes of making it back mining - they are also part of the problem that is keeping prices soooooo high!

That's fair.  For me, its less about the gpu...and more a question (which admittedly I haven't fully answered for myself) about how I feel about utilizing cards and electricity in this way. I am -- admittedly -- a bit of a novice when it comes to Crypto, and I still learning....

I have been looking into it a lot lately, as a few of my friends have been trying to persuade me that it's worth doing. Long story short, most mining efforts are effectively going to generating/creating/solving a new form of decentralized currency. It has significant advantages over FIAT money (like the U.S. dollar). We are talking the potential to save an entire economy from a mismanaged federal bank some day, if it keeps going and miners keep creating.

By its decentralized nature, it cannot be easily destroyed either, as it exists across all systems participating. You could destroy a small chunk of it here and there, but the entire blockchain is protected from catastrophic destruction.

Take the Ecuadorian Sucre for example. I lived in Ecuador for a couple of years shortly after the Sucre became worthless. It was cheaper for folks to use Sucre as toilet paper than to use the Sucre to buy toilet paper. Money was simply printed until it had no value whatsoever and destroyed their currency. Thankfully, they were able to make the shift to a U.S. currency-based economy, but in the even that's not available, you could keep afloat somewhat with a crypto-backed wallet. Banks are already looking into it. Governments are looking into it. As the market matures and stabilizes, it has the potential to become a very reliable currency.

Somebody has to actually produce it, however.

Enter, miners.

Generally speaking you should be fine. We can help out more specifically if we know the model of 850w you have. Not all are created equal, even among the same brands!

Yes, I do expect the cheaper sku had significantly more sign up traffic than the $389. For many, the $389 is way too close to what the 3060ti is supposed to cost. Yes, I am aware of current market conditions, but several of my friends are happy paying $300ish for an upgrade, whereas $389 prices them out of an upgrade at this time. These friends of mine only signed up for the $329 card, and I don't blame them!

Sadly, since it's likely the lower margin SKU, I would expect them to produce far less of the $329 card.

So we have a probability of less $329 cards being made combined with more demand for the cheaper card. Result? Wildly different queue progress!

Just saw this! My friend, that power supply is a monster. It should be fantastic for your setup. I would happily trust it with a 3080 + 3060, and I wouldn't worry one bit.

That's one of the best there is, really.

jdcarpeThey probably don't want to show people the back of the PCB secrets just yet, since there is no backplate on that card.
What "secrets"? It is multi-layer PCB, all secrets hidden inside between layers. I can believe that they don't want show it because it look ugly without backplate
But in reality they probably made only one set of photos and used it for both cards.

Secrets revealed... https://www.techpowerup.c...rce-rtx-3060-xc/4.html

No memory chips on the back, so that backplate has a mostly aesthetic function... although maybe a small cooling benefit with that thermal pad underneath the GPU.  $60 is steep for a backplate and OC...  so SKU 3655 looks to be a great value.

In my opinion, psus for 30 series should be 850w and above.  If you are overclocking or a 3090, I would err on the side of a 1000w.  Minimum gold, but platinum is obviously better if you can swing it.  If you have a psu older than five years old or have ridden it hard (mining rig by way of example), I would consider upgrading now while you have a rig open and are plumbing around in there.  So again, watts, efficiency level and age.

Finally, if you do swap out, you have to use the new cables that came with your new PSU.  Do not mix and match old cables from prior PSU with new PSU.  This is a key point.

Best of luck!

I was so bummed.. EVGA website locked up  for me, Zotac locked up when I had one in my cart, best buy finally had an add to cart pop up and I clicked instantly just to be told there was no more stock. The worst part is it was 9:32 according to the time stamp on my notifies before I could get the website to load just to be able to get into the que.

+6% to Boost Clock, + 18% to Price. And it even doesn't have fancy RGB LED for this price increase! What a shame!

No comment on the price and value as I haven't really checked into enough to formulate an opinion, but honestly the one thing I do not like about EVGA's 30 series cards this time is all the RGB lighting. I know some people like it and I can turn it off (which...I would...if I had one), but holy crap some of the RGB lighting has gone too far. It doesn't look "fancy" to me at all lol. It's even creeping into the "Dark" z590 board. I'd still buy one, and they did a nice job there as that board looks amazing, but I'd be the one guy on the design team constantly going "now hold on, everyone, can we dial that back?...just a little?!" haha.

I scored a 3060 XC in NewEgg's Shuffle so I pulled my notify off here. I just hope that Step-Up is still a thing. I want to hopefully step-up to a 3080 one day. hah

Congratulations!

850W should be fine for the 3897, right?

my psu is maybe....2 months old now? it's a new build, of which only my GPU is missing (still riding my 1080TI). it's a CORSAIR RMx Series RM850x CP-9020180-NA.

Stop talking to me...you are doing just fine.  Go outside and smell some flowers or something.

Got a 850w T2 over a couple months ago thinking my evga Q for the 3080 (10G-P5-3897 10/6/2020 4:43:36 PM) would pop but I'm so far off 😂... I'm actually alot closer to the 3090(24G-P5-3987-KR10/16/2020 4:51:07 PM) and I think I'm going to go with that one when it is available... Do you think the 850w t2 is enough or should I try and return for the 1000w? Thanks for the help 🙏👍

That's a good line of PSUs. They were well reviewed on JonnyGuru.com (RIP). I'll add a bit to Newt's post based on some of the other threads here and some other places I've seen. The 30 series cards (especially 3080 and 3090) have some pretty hefty current spikes at times. Their average power draw is often well within the range of a 750W PSU, but many PSUs that size (and even 850's at times (not yours)) tend to struggle with the spikes. I would advise anybody shopping for a new PSU to read reviews like Tom's (as there's no more JG) to find a PSU with exceptional spike handling capability. Sometimes, titanium and platinum don't handle spikes as well as gold supplies, but being that those are usually higher-end PSUs that are well-made, I would bet that's fairly rare. Personally, I swapped out an old 1000W SuperNOVA G (original variety) that was past its warranty for a new 1000W G3 a couple months ago, hoping there's a 3080 in my future. It did really well with spike suppression in reviews and is actually better than gold efficiency at all but one load level, so it's basically a cheap-platinum lol. I also got it a little earlier in the price explosion, so I paid about $50 less than they're charging now...which is about $25-50 more than they were originally, but I didn't think about it before the prices started going haywire for everything.

Sorry for that long story. You have a good PSU. I was between the RM1000x and the EVGA supply I bought when I was doing my upgrade. That's all I'm trying to say.

Assuming you are not overclocking it or loading up your rig with 12 fans OR mining...I think it will be fine.  For me, this past fall I was putting together a new rig from scratch so I bought a 1000w just to be comfortable...and I have a boatload of fans in the rig (Lian-Li o11 XL).  Little did I know that I could have waited until 2021 (or 2022?) to buy everything because I cannot get a HC to drop from EVGA to save my life....  But enough about my rant.  Again, a 850w should be fine.

Agreed.  Unfortunately a lot of people want that feature...  for me, the new build will be as dark as I can get it.  Some things won't turn off, like debug LED, etc.

No luck for me on the newegg shuffle. I'm 0/13 now. (Probably more than 13, but I'm tired of counting. It's depressing!)

At least I'm 930ish on the 3060. So hopefully in a week or so??
