It's all about competing with AMD's RX 6800xt @ $1000.
Nvidia does not have a SKU between $700 and $1499 to compete.
Enter the RTX 3080Ti @ $1000

They don't really need to compete with it though, at least not right now. The RDNA2 cards have 1st-gen RT performance, so those buying the 6900XT aren't going for RT anyway and just want raw raster horsepower.  The 3080Ti is inevitable, but launching it this soon is a mistake.  You're gonna piss off the 3090 crowd who see a $500 premium for 4GB more memory as offensive (especially just three months into the launch of the thing), and a sizable chunk of the 3080 crowd who could have used the extra performance of those CUDA cores, but couldn't justify the 100% markup over the 3080.

If they choose to compete with an inferior performing card at that price point with the 3080Ti, they're basically begging the community (still swamped with supply issues) to rip them apart, never mind the loss AIBs will feel as a glut of 3080s and 3090s suddenly flood the market in like-new condition so folks can up/downgrade to the 3080Ti instead; sure, the 3080Ti would sell wonderfully, but all that capacity and cards for the 3080 and (especially) 3090 will go to waste as the like-new models on secondary sites get snapped up first.  Choosing to compete with an inferior card at a lower price point (especially in the halo product lineup of the 6900XT/3090) so soon after launch shows remarkable shortsightedness.  They'd be much better served saving the 3080Ti until AMD sees more optimizations on the drivers and in games to improve their own RT performance, then counter-punch with the 3080Ti as a mid-cycle refresh to suck the wind out of their sails.

Now if they had positioned the 3090 as a Titan, then this would be a moot point...

10 SKUs "launched" on 9/16, three of which have queues that still haven't even reached the 9/17 release date.  EVGA: where are the 3881, 3883, and 3895?

When I get the 3080 Hybrid I'm sticking the rad to the top of my case.

I'm planning to do the same... just hoping my AIO CPU cooler piping can reach the front of my case with tubes at the bottom of my rad, not wanting to have my tubes at thet top of my rad.

That's how I had to run my CLC280 in my DG78, hoses on the radiator up top. Not real happy about it, but it works. Not enough space for a radiator & fan assembly up top in that case, which is a bummer.  I think even with slim fans it would still contact the motherboard :-/ . I won't really want to change cases, as I love the white 78 but...

Hello,

Just wanted to throw a quick greeting here as this seems like a pretty cool community, and throw some love at EVGA as they seem to be doing what they can to get their product in the hands of the end-user as opposed to re-sellers. Hopefully, I get a chance to show some appreciation financially soon, and good luck to everyone hoping to be notified on a card.

Win an EVGA RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra!

A lot of people (particularly in this thread!) have used my associate code and/or rewards/affiliate code since the 3000 series launch, which I of course greatly appreciate. I figured it would be a good idea to "pay forward" some of this good will, so I used EVGA Bucks to purchase a new RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra GPU to give away. Woot!

I initially thought to contact Jacob and perhaps have EVGA give it away via the EVGA Friday podcast, but I realized the winner (or "weiner" as they say) might not be a forum member, and there's a good chance they would just sell it as most people watching there are gamers with high end rigs already, whereas I'd rather it went to a forum member and someone who will hopefully use it.

EVGA Forum Moderator The_Scarlet_One brought to my attention the EVGA Folding Team 2020 Time Zone Challenge, and this seems like a great way to give the GPU away - it's for a good cause, will very likely go to an EVGA forum member, hopefully will be used for folding or personal use rather than just sold for cash, and at the same time might encourage a few new folders to join in (like me). Lots of win in other words!

For more details, check out this link : https://forums.evga.com/Win-an-EVGA-RTX-3060-Ti-FTW3-Ultra-and-other-prizes-m3175903.aspx

Cheers!

That is very cool of you to do. I am glad I used your code when I purchased my 3080.... thank you for paying it forward.. Happy Holidays to you!

Cheers, and Merry Christmas!

In good news, new case came in today! It's bigger and sturdier (and heavier) than I thought (Antec Dark League DF600 FLUX) and the plastic covering the front fans - with PLENTY of side vents, mind you - is tinted rather than completely transparent like I'd been led to believe. Boutta transfer my build over, we'll see how she goes!

You're overthinking this as an enthusiast. You have to look at it from a business perspective. Nvidia's competitor just released a product at a price point they don't have a an answer for. The company has a hole in it's portfolio, they are leaving the door open for competition. Nvidia doesn't care if 3090 owners are upset, they already got there money (It's also part of the risk of being an early adopter). Nvidia's loyalty is not with it's customers, it's with it's share holders. It's a business and there business is to make money. They want 100% make share. No way Nvidia leaves the door open to AMD like Intel did.

FWIW, if they release a 3080ti at $1000, they could always release something later in 2021 at a $1300 price range.

I wouldn't put it pass them to do that if they really wanted to make more money or felt the need to.

Noice!

When I get the 3080 Hybrid I'm sticking the rad to the top of my case.

For exhaust, that is definitely a strong choice (perhaps the strongest).

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing.  I hope my CPU cooler doesn't get in the way.  I think there's enough room, though. #crossesfingers

I measured mine and it won't fit in my current case. Trying to find a bigger case. It's not easy by just looking at pictures online.

This feels very much like a straggler drop from Friday.  Just a little movement from both the 3080 FTW3 Ultra and the 3060 Ti XC3 Gaming....  So far, that's it.

For the 3663, I have the current head of the queue at 6:51:03 am on 12/1.

Storms usually start with just a few drops; floods with just a ripple.

Noice!

When I get the 3080 Hybrid I'm sticking the rad to the top of my case.

I just bought a different case as well (Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic XL Silver), just since my previous h440 (1st gen) had terrible airflow and almost no space for anything...

It's perfect for multiple AIO setups and is an absolute beauty in both aesthetics and craftsmanship (yea...everyone and their mom has the dynamic, but it's for good reason lol).

My modsrigs has pictures of it if you're curious

It's on like donkey kong!

I never noticed before now, but the red on this RGB bar is amazing.  My phone camera does not do it justice:

It's a deep red not just "bright", people doing red-build themes will love it.
