Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2020/12/14 02:40:29 (permalink)
After Thanksgiving shutdown last time they had a rough startup and drops were small.

I've had so many chances at getting a card, but the bots keep stealing it from my cart.

Hopefully I get a card in 2 months. 3 months of waiting down.

I pulled some data from the forums showing a distribution of notifys per day of the week.  Since those holiday are Thru-Sun we won't miss much.  A picture is worth a thousand GPU's

Actually we will be affected. Thursday and Fridays could be straight production days and Q&A days before they ship them out the following week.

They were closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving and it affected us so...

They don't produce their parts in the US, and their Chinese vendor / subcontractor's holidays rarely align with the US, but it would impact any planners that may be in the US... but these days many of them our overseas as well.  If EVGA is like most tech companies their US workforce is mostly related to working the marketing and the accounts in the America's region.  Perhaps someone in the US release orders, but I don't it, that should be automated with ERP systems.

The Notify Queue, in terms of when the emails are sent out, is facilitated by humans, that's why the emails only go out from 9A-5P Monday-Friday, someone turns it on and off at those times - I'm sure the rest of it is automated for the most part though.

Got some minor adjustments done in preparation for the 240mm radiator being added in to the top of the PC & the card sawp itself.
We shall see if it shows out for delivery in about 3 hours or less ^_^

Unfortunately the queue for the 3070 is quite long at this point, though it is moving faster than some 3080s.  I don't know for sure how much that exact part number is moving, but you're looking at probably months.

Amazing...., what did we ever do with our spare time before the internet?

Looked for the houses in the neighborhood that had tin rooves and then pelted rocks on them, then hid in the bushes down the street giggling while the angry householder came to the door and shouted obscenities into the night...

...uh so I've heard.

The tubing on the AIO is not really compatible with other stuff, if you're going to do that, you might as well buy a regular air-cooled GPU, or wait for the Hydrocoppers to come out (likely sometime next month) and get one of those that comes with a liquid block preinstalled.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2020/12/14 04:36:14 (permalink)
I saw some comments about microcenter and thought I would share. I waited in the MI location on Saturday morning, expecting to leave empty handed. I spoke with a guy for about an hour about some coil whine in his Gigabyte card he was trying to replace. I was 10th in line, and the first to ask for a 3090. I was open to Asus and EVGA (though really wanted EVGA since I have liked my parts from here) but my choice was made easy when they only had Gigabyte cards. Not ready to drop that money on a chance, and not really wanting a lifetime of coil whine, I chose to continue my wait. This kicker is the rumor that they had two returned 3090 FTW3 ULTRA's the day before - they must have gotten bought up and I am not surprised. Debating waiting out here in MD now, but not sure that my result will be any different

The 3090 FTW3 queue is within like 20 people from me - if I would have signed up on Oct 6 like I wanted, I would be playing! Oh well, seconds matter in this game - this will help me appreciate the card when it does come. That is my story. Good luck all!

Anyone know if there is coil whine on the evga 3060tis? You can barely find any reviews online.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2020/12/14 05:19:08 (permalink)
Why are the computer demons visiting me today of all days.

First Cyberpunk hard-freezes my PC (I'm running at stock CPU even, so that really makes no sense), Reliability Report says LiveKernelEvent reason for the crash (which I think is driver issues - but I had zero problems yesterday so?????????)... I reboot, start playing again and the system full on resets itself mid-scene which has literally never happened to this machine before unless something was overheating or I was running an unstable OC.

I shut down, checked all the connections because I was rearranging stuff and it's possible something might've been shorting out - everything was good, so now I'm back for round 3.  If it does this again this is not a good sign from the computer gawds about how this new GPU is gonna go when it's not even here yet & my PC is actin' a fool.

I'm going to set so that even my GPU isn't running anything but stock, no undervolt, and see if anything happens, guess my next step if it does it again will be to wipe my drivers & do a fresh install of them... hoping something didn't brick my Windows.

Rumors say January, but common sense (on nVidia's part, which they admittedly seem to be lacking at the moment) would say to delay that until late Summer at least.  3090 and 3080 are selling out as soon as they come in stock, so why split GA102 chips between even more SKUs?

Safe bet you're not getting one this year. For the 3060Ti, likely late January to mid-February given that sign-up time (if existing volumes hold).

If he’s your friend he’d sell it to you for msrp - not a jacked up price (unless he bought it for 900 as well)

Yes! If hes trying to sell you a $700 card for $200 over MSRP, not much of a friend in my opinion.  I could understand around $800 for tax and shipping or whatever but at $200 over, thats profit.

I'd wait.

I actually sold my friend my 3080 xc3 ultra at a minor loss (lol I’m bet I’m the first person in history to do that) - ended up miscalculating a Venmo fee and couldn’t be bothered to pester about the extra $12.

I sold my 3090 FE at a slight loss after shipping - shipping a $1500 object is EXPENSIVE! (and I don't ship often so I don't really know)

Sold mine for 1650 and after tax and paypal fees and everything it wasn't covered but...meh I can eat a few bucks. Glad someone got a card for a reasonable price.  Also included a nice white/black braided cable with it :).

Well it seems I got my crashing issue sorted, either futzing with the cables fixed it or Afterburner was FUBARing my OC, I reset that, plugged in 1995MHz @ 900mV & everything seems fine again, played for over an hour with zero issues.

Very funny :-P We should hope they DO NOT come out soon, so supply can equalize, people can get their GPUs, etc.  If it does come out that would mean Scalpers have fresh meat, the NVidia supply chain is even further diluted, and this crapfest could continue for half a year or more instead of only a few more months (hopefully).

Seems the package isn't out for delivery yet, that's unfortunate.  I'll keep an eye on it & go hunt down the UPS guy if it's showing out for delivery so he doesn't have to drive the extra 7 miles out of his way to get out here.

Seriously. If they do come out as early as January, I fail to see how they'll get MSRP down to the rumored $1000 without seriously alienating 3090 buyers so early in.  That would just be a difference of 4GB GDDR6X for a $500 price gap, since CUDA count and RT cores are rumored to be identical to the 3090.  There's no way 4GB of GDDR6X is worth $500, so I'm guessing a more appropriate price would be ~$1200, at which point it's just as much a halo product as the 3090.

The 3080 and 3070 are the real sweet spots this gen, and the 3080Ti would've made for an excellent Summer refresh at $1000. I am struggling to comprehend the reasoning for a potential January launch of the damn thing.

When can i get in line for the 3080ti's that are coming out soooooon? Id like to get in the front of that list please. :D

It's all about competing with AMD's RX 6800xt @ $1000.
Nvidia does not have a SKU between $700 and $1499 to compete.
Enter the RTX 3080Ti @ $1000
