Reporting back with two queue emails :)

400-HY-1988-B1 11/14/2020 3:36:09 PM PT

I have thought about going the KPE-level of crazy here, but to be honest, there's absolutely no guarantee you'll get one, I don't know how the queue will work on those, but those have always been super-extra exclusive with only a fraction of those made in comparison to the others, both because of the binning that has to take place to select the highest of high end 3090 chips to put in those, and because 3090s are already of limited supply in the first place, after considering it, I decided I'd rather go just semi-crazy and get the 3090 FTW3 Hybrid, to have fun with the regular XOC/OC BIOS, than go full-on-crazy & hope I get a Kingpin.

Still waiting on a reply from the dude on the 2070 Super, hoping for the best, if I don't hear back from him by around 3PM my time I'll shoot eVGA an email & such about hopefully being able to hold my card for me for a few days...

Just purchased...
 24G-P5-3978-KR             12/8/2020 9:54:19 AM PT           Yes

Now I just need the K|NGP|N queue to open back up.  One watch over, another begins...

Congratulations!  I hope you enjoy your new card...and that the Kingpin comes to your door sooner than you anticipate to disrupt the happy family into even greater fps (and benchmarks).  Congrats!

Posted this a bit earlier but it seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle and I haven't seen anyone answer this or anyone else's questions about the 3895:

Just wondering if there's any update on the 3895 SKU (3080 FTW3 Gaming, non-Ultra).

That's the only one I registered for, thinking it would be a bit shorter than the Ultra queue, plus it was a tad cheaper.

Judging by these posts, there hasn't been *any* movement on that particular card so I'm wondering if there's any information on what's going on with it.

I signed up for the queue on October 7.

Thanks!

Friend, in all honesty, you will likely never receive a card through this queue.

That model is still on 2 PM on 9/16 and is simply not being produced in quantity.

The Gaming and Gaming Black skus do not appear to be produced in volumes that rival the other skus.  It is a problem we talk about regularly, but have no power to change.  My recommendation would be to go ahead and sign up for any other cards that might work for your situation and hope that something begins to move in your direction.  Best of luck!

Hi all. Just signed up for a long list of card options last night. Obviously I'm not expecting to get an invite any time soon.

I'm just wondering if there is a bigger picture story around the shortage that anyone can elaborate on? I'm assuming there are production and shipping delays related to covid, but is there any public understanding of how we can expect the supply to look over the coming months?

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but 485 pages is a LOT of reading to catch up on

Thanks for all the work being done to track the queue. It will certainly help keep me sane. enewt - your cookie has already been set

There really isnt a "bigger picture" story. Its just that there is incredible demand with for the cards. Combine this with lower yields for higher end cards like 3080s and 3090s along with a scalping and botting problem and you have what we're seeing here.

Hi! Good luck with your queue spots, although you're correct to assume they won't be fulfilled anytime soon.

So while COVID has been trotted out a lot as a catch-all excuse, that's only a very small part of the story.  The key bullet points thus far (from my own following of this saga, and associated research):
  • nVidia didn't plan for the demand of Ampere, at all.
  • nVidia switched fabs to Samsung, which has had yield issues in general, but moreso on the larger chips in the 3080/3090 cards.
  • nVidia didn't put any meaningful restrictions on retailers or AIBs to stop or limit scalping, or ensure a diverse array of SKUs at launch (if you're not buying FE, you're almost certainly buying a premium OC card from an AIB; stock AIB cards are so rare I can't think of a good analogy or metaphor).
  • nVidia didn't discount old 20-series stock, which inflated used card prices and increased demand for Ampere.
  • EVGA was really the only AIB to do queuing of their SKUs based on signing up for the auto-notify system (yay!), but launched ten SKUs initially (three of which haven't broken 9/16 yet) and added another nine since (Hybrids, Hydros, and Kingpin) that are being fulfilled first.
  • The GA102 chip used in the 3080 and 3090 appears to be binning more in favor of the 3090 instead of the 3080 (hence the rumors of the 3080Ti with the same CUDA count as the 3090, but half the memory), and seems to be reliably binned for overclocking at the factory (hence the glut of Ultras and other OC-variants compared to base models).  See the third point for why this is an issue.
  • On top of all of the above, there's a global shortage of GDDR6 and GDDR6X, exacerbated by point number one (this shortage could've been mitigated - however slightly - if appropriate expected demand had been communicated ahead of time).
  • Because of the lack of Ampere stock and the run on existing stock when Ampere's supply cratered, AMD has seen knock-on effects with its own cards, further exacerbating the current GPU supply issues.
  • Existing stock of new cards and used cards at appropriate prices has largely been cleaned out globally due to the supply issues with new GPUs.

That is the incredibly short version of Summer 2019 to today.  Hope it helps!

I've asked EVGA to comment on that repeatedly, but not heard a response yet.  Keep making noise, as they shouldn't have permitted sign-ups in the first place for a card they knew they weren't going to make.  If I had to venture a guess, however, it was that they could make more money using that 1755MHz OC GA102 in the XC3 Ultra while saving the 1800MHz OC GA102 for the FTW3 Ultra.  That cooler is honkin' huge and expensive, so the margins were likely better on the XC3 Ultra at that clockspeed instead.

You and me both. I've repeatedly asked EVGA for comment here and elsewhere, and heard nothing yet.  Generally speaking, though, it looks like you're going to have an easier time finding a 3090 than a 3080.

I'm in the same boat.  It was the only one I signed up for, for the same reasons as you.  Others simply spammed all notifications. Now they have one of something, they bought their brother another one, they bought their friends one, all because they spammed the notifications.  (Lesson learned on my part....)

I've been unable to find proof of the existence of this card (3895) and there is at least 1 website that listed it as discontinued.  Mods for EVGA have said that isn't true, but frankly it may be because one can't "discontinue" something that never existed.  EVGA mods and representatives have given ZERO info about this sku (which is why there are rumors).  If you are able to attain any information about this sku, please let us know.

I'd say you're probably better off signing up for a sku you want that EVGA is making than holding out for one they currently are not. Getting in another line can't hurt.

You can order however many SKU's you signed up for.  You only get one of each SKU of course as once you purchase it goes away but if you signed up for 5 different SKU's you can purchase all 5 when they get to you if you want.

I wholeheartedly agree on "shotgunning" queues by people has hurt those of us who played the game by the expected societal rules (one person, one slot), and that every retailer and AIB should be doing more to stop this behavior by immediately clearing all queued slots for that GPU's SKUs after a successful purchase, as well as blocking future orders for that GPU using identical payment methods and/or addresses.  It's the bare minimum, after all, and keeps things fair.  As frustrated as I am with my 3881 slot, I'm even more angry at the 3895: whoever queued for it absolutely deserves an answer from EVGA about it and some form of recourse, as they (seemingly) knowingly let you and others sign-up for a card they had no intention of making this year at all.

Ultras, ultras, ultras! Ultras for everyone! Congrats to the Ultra and Hybrid crowd of course, but gah, another week of dashed hopes.

What kinda person makes an offer then doesn't pay attention to their email...

Oh right, it's Friday, people work on Friday LUL

Just waiting. Patiently.

Think I'm gonna go ahead & shoot that email in reply to the purchase link email from eVGA in about a half hour, & see what they say about holding on to one for me til Wednesday - just to be on the safe side.
Then I can stew on how ridiculous it is I'm even purchasing the thing for several more days if necessary until the money is available to purchase it lol
