Hello people of the forum: I installed the card and it occurred to me to look at before playing and noticed that the fans were not working, then I happened to install EVGA precision and changing profiles "CUSTOM" or "Aggressive" fans began to work. But after closing the program the fans are switched off again. There is something that I miss you install or the card carries some additional pin (in addition to the 2 x 6) for the fans ??? From already thank you sorry for my English I'm from Argentina and I'm using Google translate

Is your card an ACX 2.0 card? If so, the fans won't turn on until 60c.

yes, it is an ACX 2.0 and 60c. ??? wow ¡¡¡ previously had a Asus gtx 660 TI and did not exceed 50c.. The temperature that would support this 970 ??? It gives me some confidence that are not input those fans turned on. It will be a matter of getting used or perhaps used EVGA Precision?

Yes it is normal. Fans turn on around 65C.

60c is NOTHING for a GPU. But like others have said, as soon as it starts heating up (like when you play a game or something) the fans will kick on. It's an awesome card!

if you install PrecisionX to use a custom fan curve you shouldn't close it. as soon as you close the PrecisionX the cards bios takes control of the fans again.

I run a custom fan profile because my 144hz monitor keeps my 980 from downclocking. The card will run at 50c+ like that. So, I run custom fan profile and it the noise is not ANY more louder and it keeps the GPU at 30c at idle and 65c max temp load. Just set a custom fan profile. However, I would suggest using Afterburner and NOT Precision. Unwinder has been working on Afterburner for years and refining it. EVGA dumped Unwinder and chose to go it alone with Precision... the software has more bugs than Afterburner, IMO.

Just picked up a GTX 970 superclocked w/ACX 2.0, and my fans are also not turning on. I installed Precision and set a fan curve, but like someone else said, as soon as I close the fan curve window, the fans turn off. I set my curve and ran the Resident Evil 5 benchmark and watched as the temps crept upwards. 70C and nothing. 75C, nothing. At 80 I cancelled the benchmark and the fans were still not running. The only time I can get the fans to turn on is when I use the fan speed slider at the left side of the Precision interface, and even then it only seems to work about half the time. I didn't expect to have to use manual fan controls when I bought this card, as my GTX 770 with the ACX cooler handled its own fans just fine.

do you click "Apply" after setting the fan curve? is your Precision set to start up with windows? also you must activate "enable automatic fan control" so the fan curve gets used. (pic borrowed from a friend.)

I hate the fan profile! EVGA and others need to stop listening to the whiny few that complained about it not being like the strix! The fans can keep this card well under 65c in most mid towers running at only 30%. And for the people trying to run a semi-silent gaming rig, the fan profile is a disaster! Because the extra unnecessary heat build up can cause the CPU fan to spin like crazy, just to keep the CPU at normal temps. After that a semi silent rig becomes fairly audible. Also if the card can run cooler, And it can run much cooler than the factory fan profile. Then what the ---- is the point in buying a GPU with double fans? It makes no sense! It used to be when you bought a double cooler card, You never had to worry about messing with the fan speed. I would love to have the older fan profile rather than this one! The ACX coolers are nice, But the ACX 1 and 2 is not good enough for a semi-passive cooler setup! Because the VRMs and the backside V-ram are mostly left out from this cooler's setup, And there is allot more heat generating than just the 60c detected on the GPU chip. In other words don't set a semi-passive cooler setup on a cooler that was not designed for it! This cooler was design only for a non-passive fan profile. And it really irritates me that I have to run a extra program in the background just to keep the card properly cool. Especially after paying over $300 for the thing! The semi-passive setup is pointless anyway! Because the fans are still going to eventually run anyway! It's like washing a car so you can drive it through mud! It makes zero sense!

I, personally, would like to be able to have my fans spinning regardless of temperature...it unnerves me (and you can say "shouldn't worry you!" all you want) to have them dead.

Does your card have a second bios? If so, try switching over to that bios and see if it makes any difference. Also, remove your card, and check the fan connector. It is right next to the end of the pci slot portion of the pcb.

i learned that it wasnt a software issue that i had it turns out my graphics card had to much sag and something wasnt connecting through the pcie slot causing fans not to receive power or commands so i tied some fishng line to the corner of the card and tied it up through the fan holes and now it dosent sag

Welcome to the forum Glad you got it sorted ---- creatively I might add Did you install the case screw in the back of the case to hold the GPU mounting bracket ? Is the GPU locked into the MB --- usually there is a tab or latch on the MB --- card has to be fully seated to lock

@ Potato It isnt you. I have had to do that with both of my Titan X video cards. EVGA should include backplates (ideal), or move the power connectors somewhere else. Seeing all these problems with the 900 series though, I am wondering if they skimped on the thickness of the pcb's on the 900 series cards. :(

Took me 7 years of nightmares in Linux before finding this. Thank the awesome person that told me. On my 970 FTW+ ACX 2.0 there's a hidden dip switch on the top of the card labeled (Master / Slave). Evga killed the manual for this gpu, so don't have a pic or proper instructions of what the dip switch is supposed todo. Here's roughly what it looks like:
If it helps, pls reply to let others know. thx.

got it. linked to another forum post that explains what the switch does. who knows why it's set to master by default. also, be smart. shut off the pc when changing that dip switch. hf.
