Is there a difference on customs/taxes to Canada between the 2 shipping options? Heard a rumor that the more expensive one gets more chances on not being taxed

You'll always be taxed, but some have said that picking the more expensive option means you only have to pay a small bond rather than pay any customs fees (which there shouldn't be, technically - there aren't supposed to be customs and duties on computer components).

You'll always be taxed, but some have said that picking the more expensive option means you only have to pay a small bond rather than pay any customs fees (which there shouldn't be, technically - there aren't supposed to be customs and duties on computer components).

I tried a custom loop waaaayyyy back in the day, like '05 or '06, when the tech was I suppose still fairly new. It...did not end well for me, and I was turned off of liquid cooling for well over a decade until I discovered AIO solutions, coupled with what would seem like even the best fans failing to keep stuff at temps I was comfortable with. So I started getting AIO coolers, first for my CPU (currently got a 240mm EVGA one), then a 2080 hybrid, and I've basically never looked back.
I IMAGINE if I tried to do a custom loop again today, having a lot more life experience under my belt (and the technology being vastly more mature), it will probably go slightly-less-disastrously, but I'm still wary enough that I think I'll stick with a hybrid. I guess I'll see where I'm at in a few months and how desperate I start feeling, heh.

Sometimes UPS will say "We are just going to claim customs, and then you come and pay us, OK?", in which case you would actually have to say "uh, no" and then you'd have to go to them and get it yourself, and usually still have to pay a fee... but this doesn't always happen. In terms of getting a refund for duties paid, no I don't think there is a way. My point was, legally, you should be paying your provincial tax + GST, and a small bond which may be a few percent. Some people from Quebec here mentioned paying about $200 CAD on a 3080 Ti.
