I truly wish everyone the best of luck, but the blame game is getting tiresome.

It's not just the blame game, but the negativity in general. The blame game is mostly ignorance with a little saltiness mixed in. The feeling that you are somehow being screwed because you can't get what you want when you want it. So you go searching for answers, which you will find in this case. There is no conspiracy. The reasons for the supply shortage are public knowledge and are well known at this point.

The negativity is another issue entirely. It's unnecessary and it brings this thread down. It's mostly being fed by a few people who spend way too much time here and I wish they would go away, but it's easier if I do. I stop by a couple of times per week to check on movement, provide some info if I have any, and maybe offer a few kind words to someone who is really close to getting a card and is getting discouraged. All I can do is counteract the negativity with a positive post and get out.

A lot of people are getting cards, and a lot are not buying when they get the email as evidenced by the straggler drops that are getting bigger and are taking more than one day to resolve in some cases. Signing up for the auto-notify is too effortless. EVGA should have charged people $1 to sign up, which would be refundable if they end up buying a card. Just doing something like that would weed out a lot of people who are not serious. What I'm getting at is that the queues might be long, but there are also a lot of bunk time stamps in there, and that will only increase as time goes on.

Nice proposal. Also they should make 100500+ GPUs modification that will never hit the queue

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/04/12 11:34:48 (permalink)
I don't think anyone save scalpers signed up for every card on release day for the 3080s - that was something that people learned needed to be done way after the fact for the most part.  Sadly, for every launch from here on out, it's lesson learned for us regular people that just want to build a freakin' PC or upgrade their GPU.

Has there been any more recent info on if the "middle of April" generalization on the HydroCopper cards and blocks might actually be coming to pass?  I noticed they still haven't updated the product pages with a date yet, which probably means it won't be this week.  After changing out my system to an AMD setup, my Kingpin has mysteriously developed a case of obnoxious pump noise, and I've done everything I can think of to try & fix it, nothing helps - have a cord coming to get manual pump speed control as a temporary fix, but a HydroCopper block would solve both the noise & the RAM temp discrepancy problems at once :-P

Good luck on your drops this week folks.

I got the hybrid kit installed and bios flashed on the xc3 so it knows it's now a hybrid, put an air cooler on the 5800x and set it all on my wife's desk and hooked up her new 1440 omen 27i monitor yesterday. The case and water AIO for the cpu will be here Monday or Tuesday I'm hoping. The Joys of living in Alaska is that almost nothing decent is available locally. I was also surprised at how hard it was to get a decent higher end motherboard. I'm not talking about a dark hero, but just a regular hero or the equivalent from another brand that doesn't want $800.00+ for it. I was shocked since I overpaid for my Crosshair VIII formula back in July (no hero's were available at all then) but I didn't pay $800.00+ for it.  My wife started playing her game and said wow I can see the veins in the bosses arm didn't know he had veins...she was gaming on a 7th gen intel I7 laptop with a 1060 using an actual 2tb hard drive paired with a 250 gb SSD.

Now she he has an AMD 5800x, the hybrid 3080 xc3 ultra, 2 gen 4 7000 mb/s NVMe M.2 (A bit faster than the 150 mb/s HDD) a 500 gb for windows, and a 2tb for gaming, a 2tb ssd for file storage, corsair vengeance RGB Pro 3600 MHz ram, all on a x570 Aurous Master MB. It will all go inside of a corsair 5000D airflow case once that gets here.

I think this might be a small upgrade for the wife, and so far she is very happy with it all. So waiting for months to get a card was worth to have a super happy wife who never realized what she was visually missing in her games on that old 1060 GTX laptop on a 1080 60hz monitor.

Do you have to reflash the cards to a hybrid BIOS, or can you just enjoy the improved thermals and noise from installing the kit?

You can use it without reflashing just fine, but it won't see the fans correctly. I used the hybrid flash posted by Jacob in another thread here, but some folks are reporting problems with using that bios on the xc3 cards and have been downloading the hybrid bios from somewhere else and are reporting that one works the way it is supposed to. I haven't done any testing since I flashed the bios, but it seems to be working fine for me so far.

According to some folks apparently the bios on the evga thread is not the same bios as the actual hybrid and that is where the problems came in. The last post I found on the topic was March 25th or so so maybe they have updated it since then. If I find there are problems I'll go download the other bios and reflash and see if it improves, but so far so good. The only complaints my wife has is it doesn't look right and the colors are off, but I think she is finally seeing accurate colors on the 1440 monitor and doesn't know what it's supposed to look like.

It only needs two 8pins for power, the three pin ftw's seem too odd/sketchy? or is that not a problem?

I've seen that my local microcenter's been getting some drops recently, and I've been taking a habit of checking the website to see what the drop of the day is.  That said, if a drop of evga or one of the slightly cheaper 3070s gets there and I don't have something I need to do the next day, I'm definitely going to go stand in line for it.  They've implemented a voucher that limits it to 1 per household per 30 days, so it's a good scalper deterrent.

That said, I hope that this week is a good week for all of us, at least where drops are concerned.  I know I have a busy week ahead of me.  My new glasses are ready to be picked up, got several doctors' appointments (both my own and my brother's) and have a few other errands to do.

Be and Do in equal measure.  Yes, that includes being patient on getting the new computer rig completed.

Independent superheroines ftw!

I believe the FTWs have a different bios that allows them to take advantage of the extra 8 pin power connector for higher overclocking.

I believe they can draw upwards of 200 more watts then the 2 pin cards.

In all honesty, you're not going to see any meaningful gains amping up the power that high anyways. If anything, I would undervolt to reduce temperatures and power consumption. Congrats on getting your GPU by the way; like I said, it's always worth getting in touch with EVGA. They've proven that they will usually help out their customers when contacted with an issue.

Re: New EVGA.com Notification Checkout Process 2021/04/12 12:19:32 (permalink)
So, opening up the floor for some friendly speculation (not complaining, just having a little thought experiment about what's currently going on):

There has been a massive slowdown of SKUs going out through the queue, mostly in terms of 3070's, 3080's and 3090's. I'm not sure to say whether more or less or the same amount have been going out to retailers (definitely not much available here in Canada). I'm beginning to wonder whether NVIDIA is simply running out of chips? Could this actually happen? I know they always have to very carefully plan how much they will make from the start, so they don't produce too much, and once they start producing new chips they basically completely stop making old models. I know that this whole debacle has been unprecedented, and the demand has been way higher than expected. Just wondering if it would actually be possible for them to run out. Of course, they would never tell us.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the community spreadsheet ☺️. I hope you all get your card soon!
