I found something interesting.
Just overclocked my 3960X to 4.2 GHz, PLL Override is active, Voltages are fixed to stock (only vcore @ 1.254)
and now, the upper LAN port is not working anymore, only the lower one. The upper one has the ending "LM" and only one LED on the left side of the port is blinking.

the lower LAN port still works, but I dont understand why this silly 4,2 GHz has an Impact on the LAN Port?! and why not on both?

till now i noticed that the upper LAN port Fails and the Audio device is gone (also in the device Manager in Windows)

I have not seen this problem even when I use a 42 or 43 multiplier.  I have tested this with every bios revision release we've had so far.  Got to be a setting off or something.  It's definitley not the "norm".

That was you that received a brand new board with thermal paste on the socket??  I would take it back like you said.  Who knows, a new board might solve your issue you're having...

yes, it was me... should have taken a picture of it, but I saw it as I was istalling the CPU, so I just cleaned it....
I will try to completely erase the BIOS and set it up new, maybe it will help...

what I was thinking of, can there be a problem with the PCIe lanes? I mean when I OC the CPU? (stupid idea but maybe?...) the reason is, that LAN and some other stuff is working over the PCIe lanes

If you set your bios to default settings (F5 in bios), then the Lan ports should both work.

It is possible to have a dead PCI-e slot, I just don't know if it would cause anything else not to function because of it.

Does anyone know if the EVGA X79Dark or the EVGA Supernova Nex 1500 will likely come on sale anytime soon?  I am taking my time to meticulously buy components as I already have an EVGA X58 SLI LE with i7 960.  Had to replace the ram and monitor this year so figured it was time to start building a new rig.  The only component I have bought on sale so far was the i7 4820K for $309 ($Can) at tigerdirect.ca.  Currently have a Silverstone case but it doesn't have enough room for cooling.  Would like a couple 480mm rad to add CPU and GPU water loops so was thinking go big or go home with the Corsair 900D.  I thought the Supernova Nex 1500 with its individually braided red PCIe wires would look phenomenal with this board.  Would like a red ATX connector as well but the Supernova only comes with black ATX connector.  Does anyone know if you can buy a red ATX connector from EVGA as an option?  Plan on buying parts around Black Friday, assembling in December and then upgrading to the lastest Nvidia graphics cards with water loop this summer.

Nobody can tell you if or when a retailer is going to have a special until they actually announce it. In saying that, Black Friday is about a month away (as you mentioned), and there's usually a lot of deals to be had around then. Maybe someone from EVGA can advise about red connectors. If you want to go all out, the Mountain Mods cases (U2 UFO etc) are great water cooling cases with heaps of room.. basically an 18" cube. My ModsRigs link below my avatar is one, although only using a corsair h100i at present. Use to have full watercooling in the same case.. see this link.

Is anyone doing any folding with their X79 Dark?  Was wondering what typical points per day people are acheiving with their rig?

I fold but my wife doesn't allow me to fold more than a few hours per day due to electricity costs. In those "few" hours I can sometimes knock off 10 to 11 thousand points. I know it's not much but it's the best I can do.

I'm not particularly fond of the H100i.. it's certainly as good as if not more effective than any air cooling I've used (and I've used a number of the top air coolers in the past), but it's definitely not as effective as my old water loop. One thing in particular I didn't like with the H100i was the software that came with it - I prefer controlling the fans via a fan controller, so I removed all their software and run the fans via a controller now, but don't have control over the pump.. it just runs on whatever the default is, which is annoying. I'm considering going back to a 'proper' water loop just for the CPU.

The positive with the H100i (or any closed loop system) is that there's virtually no maintenance required, just set it up and forget it, other than air-blasting accumulated dust from the radiator now and then. A custom loop you do need to maintain - 0.99 silver ribbon and anti-bacterial agents do a pretty good job for quite a while, but you still should change the water in the loop reasonably regularly, and that can be a bit of a pita at times, depending how you set your loop up.

Bottom line - a custom water loop will give you the best cooling (other than going real badass with LN2 pots etc. lol), and it can be an enjoyable challenge setting it all up. Have a look through ModsRigs for some good ideas of how people have set their loops up.

My graphics card is an HD 5970 and it tops out at 24,000 points per day.  This is partly why I want to build a new rig with Nvidia because they are so much better at PhysX calculations.

Wanted to use 3 Nividia graphics cards that were the same and was wondering if 3 in SLI was better or use one for a dedicated PhysX card?  Use the GTX 780, 690., or titan as an example.  Would one of these be rediculous as a dedicated PhysX card?  Is there any advantge at all having a dedicated PhysX card these days as all Nvidia cards handle PhysX already?

Re:EVGA X79 Dark Wednesday, October 30, 2013 4:40 PM (permalink)
Good day folks, i was wondering if there is a technical diffference between two USB 2.0 Headers located in the bottom of the X79 Dark, Pathetic User Manual doesn't explain this, but i have been trying to hub up the Corsair Link cable from the Corsair H100i and it doesnt work on the more rigth sided USB 2.0 port, it doesn't recognize Pump or his fans. Then i switched the Corsair cable link to the more left sided USB 2.0 Header and it works flawless, recognize everything. Ok at this part i was wondering if i recieved a faulty motherboard with that specific USB 2.0 Header no working properly OR is just this specific Header was not intented for such of function.

By the way, i connected the USB 2.0 Case Ports that come included in the motherboard, and the righ header works without issues reading External HDD, Pen Drives and periphericals, but it keep not accepting the Corsair Link.

Please anybody with Knowledege could confirm this? This is a very important information for all those who decide to Hub up a Corsair H100i along with the X79 Dark.

In short, i'm basicly trying to realize if my motherboard came with one USB 2.0 Header bad/broken/DOA or is just how it's works.
As i said, User Manual is so poor that doesn't specifiy Techincal Specs for those headers.

EVGA always includes a visual guide in the box.  If not you can download here on product support page.  Have not built my X79 Dark yet but did build an EVGA X79 SLI this summer for a friend.  We used the H100I.  I found the software very dodgy and the link cable was flimsy and a nuisance.  Corsair needs to spend more time improving the radiator and less time producing software that is not needed.  It is just duplicating the functions of the bios.

So why is that H100i did work good on the second USB 2.0 Header of the motherboard? If this is not because both USB headers are from different specs then i must start to think that my X79 Dark is not working properly or came with one USB Header faulty. Because as i said, switching to another USB header completly fixed the issue.

In other hand, i don't know how is the User Manual for the X79 SLI but the one which came with my motherboard is meager in the best case, and is exactly the same provide EVGA dowload. I mean i hate Asus customer support, but their boards come with "Descents" user manuals, almost a little book, English and 10 language more. Firstime when i saw X79 Manual i tough it was a kind of Funny Poster not a Manual, then i never found a real manual among documents. The result is that there are avaible functions in the MOBO that i will never be aware. EVGA you should release a descent manual at least a downloable manual if you intend price cut, that thing is not a manual.

If it were me I would attach a USB connection from your case to the questionable USB header on the motherboard.  Plug a different USB device into the USB port and see if it works.  I found the corsair software would hang if I changed the profiles back and forth.  I find Asus very hard to understand.  Some may call it Chinglish.  The EVGA boards come with clear pictures and 33 pages of the 'kings English'.  All the EVGA manuals have the same format.  Last time I needed technical support from Asus on an Asus monitor they were closed so I contacted EVGA and they troubleshooted the Asus product on Sunday evening.  I am a loyal EVGA customer and won't waiver from the brand.  The bios has help tips.

Just wanted to report that with the I/O Cover installed on the Motherboard you won't be able to use a Backplate equipped GTX 780 in the uppermost PCIe Slot unless you're doing some Dremel work.

Had to cut out quite a chunk of metal from the Backplate of my GTX 780 SC in order to fit it while still keeping the I/O Cover for the looks.

OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Professional 64Bit
GPU: EVGA GTX 780 SC
CPU: Intel Core i7-4930K
MOB: EVGA X79 Dark ( 150-SE-E789-KR / BIOS: 2.07 )
RAM: 4x8GB Corsair Dominator Platinum 2400MHz
HDD1: ASUS RAIDR Express PCIe SSD 240GB
HDD2: 4x2TB Western Digital Caviar Green
MON1: DELL 3011WFP ( DVI-I Port )
MON2: DELL 3011WFP ( DVI-D Port )
MON3: DELL 3011WFP ( Display Port )
MON4: Wacom Cintiq 24HD Touch ( HDMI Port )

He's right, big fail, they need to redesign it and resend out new I/O plates.  I just tested it with a Titan with EK backplate + block it won't fit unless I remove the i/O plate. I can push the I/O plate up more but the screw holes don't line up a simple fix would be to re align the screw holes with the i/o plate positioned flush against the bottom ports.

First pic in green is where the backplate would land (It's Further Up than in my pic in my testing but you get the idea here , My Titan with EK Block + backplate won't fit hits the I/O shield the shield is too down.

Second Pic. I moved the I/O shield up but the screw holes are not aligned anymore however this clears the back plate issue. All EVGA has to do is align it like I have in this pic and redo the I/o Shield screw holes to line up with the motherboards and this issue will go away.

Top Pic.
