Yes indeed, thanks for posting the review I sure enjoyed reading it. I was getting a little concerned as my new Dark is in the box sitting next to me and I was reading some issues on the forum here, but I also realize it is new and the bios not quite mature yet so I am sure it will come along just fine, I won't be assembling mine till later on in the year anyway.

I hope the guys that are having some issues get them resolved ASAP.

i'm having the same problem with the b code error.  memory training it says in the manual.. everytime i restart the board it happens.  The first day I could just hit the reset button on the board but now I have to hit the cmos button just to get into the bios.  but the wierd thing is even if I don't change anything in the bios it will happen again and I have to hit the cmos button.  I have tried all memory settings and nothing works.  I really love the look and design of the board but it's very buggy.  I also changed my cpu voltage to 1.35v and in the bios it reads 1.42v which is a pretty big difference.  I can't read the voltage in windows because cpuz and hardware monitor always read between .800-.900

Without you listing all your system specs, it'll be pretty hard for anyone to offer you suggestions...

ya Im not really setup at this forum.  I love OCN.  I was just mentioning it because I have seen other people with same problem.  I'm going to and disable the marvell ports even though it says a memory error.  I'm going to return the board so I guess I was just posting my feeling about it.  i wasn't looking for help but I appreciate you trying.

With older BIOS revisions, there was an issue where DIMM slots 1-4 would set at 1.289v with certain BIOS configurations. This could cause POST failure depending on memory, timings, and frequency. I am not sure if this is the issue you are running into currently especially considering that you are running the low voltage Samsung memory. However, you might try and loosen the timings some to see if you can get the system to POST rather than go to the memory training error. Then check the vDIMM monitor in BIOS to see if the voltage is set correctly or not. You can also use the voltage testpoints and check with a DMM. Here is a screenshot of what I mean.

I have tried every voltage from 1.32v - 1.65v with no luck.  I have tried every memory setting and all different combos.  I even tried re-setting the bios and only changing the memory voltage with no luck.  Also I couldn't believe I changed my cpu voltage to 1.35v and it showed 1.42v which is a pretty big error.  I am on bios 2.05.  I wonder if I am missing a setting.  I have tried extremely loose timings with no luck.  I have also used all the pre-stored memory profiles which didn't work either.  I also raised vsa AND VCCIO.   it sucks because the board is so beautiful and packaged so nice.  I also have an evbot which is cool I can use with the mobo.  I'm not sure what to do.  Over $1,000 is a lot for a cpu/mobo combo and I don't want to be stuck with issues.

hey there :)

I have a short question to the EVGA Team.

Got the X79 Dark 3 days ago, and I'm really happy with it, even though not testet yet (waiting for GPU's).
But, I already istalled the CPU and RAM.
The Question: when installing the CPU, on the outside of the socket, there was some TIM on it (on the left side when socket closed). Well, the MB smells "new" and stickers and equipment were not opened yet. The seals from EVGA on the box were untouched. Did you test this MB or where did the TIM came from?

thx

Since I think I have the same Samsung LV memory kit as you, I went ahead and pulled the timings that I am running including secondary and tertiary timings via my ASUS RIVF board. Perhaps, you could compare to what the Dark is setting for all timings to see if this might be the issue. Otherwise, there may be some compatibility issue going on with board or BIOS. I have not had the chance yet to test the memory on the Dark.

Certainly wasn't any paste on mine, and don't believe there should be on a new mobo...

This board seems to be slowly killing all of my hardware, one piece at a time!!
First one of my GTX670 FTW's died, causing artifacts and random scribble to be displayed on post and in the BIOS etc.
Now my memory is erroring, causing random Windows crashes every few minutes.

All of which ran fine for a few months (whilst I was waiting for my Dark Step-Up) in my previous R2E!

I was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with this MB. I have done a lot of reading and working with it to see if I can just figure it out but, I am lost at this point. I bought the X79 Dark and a 4930K and I place it on bios switch three and loaded the ram which is Kingston 2400 beast x which is on there website as approved. Anyway  I have it running after being really upset that it would not work in slots 1,3,5,7 as it was stated it would. I had to put them in 1,2,5,6 which runs in dual channel mode that in itself is a fail in my book maybe someone can help me understand what I can do to fix this issue. Also I can't even allow it to be on default settings it blue screens at random times not when I am using it but when it is idle or downloading something. I have loaded the 2.05 bios which from all I have read seems to be a big mistake. Is there anyway someone can help me with trying to flash a bios with dos not sure how that works. All help is welcome and if you all feel I should RMA it please let me know I wish to be able to do my work and when I am not working I can play. Thanks again for your time. Also when I set it to default it has the system clocked at 3.9 ghz when its a 3.4 ghz processor when I test it for stablity it only goes to 3.6 not the 3.9 that always show another issue I am not sure of how to fix. Thanks again all Cheers.

Put your ram back in slots 1,3,5, & 7.  Set your ram in bios manually to 1867.  Set the timings and Dimm voltage to mfg'r specs (printed on ram) and give that a try until the next bios is released.  The next bios is supposed to have a fix for running higher speed ram.

As far as flashing, you can flash from Windows.  Boot to your desktop.  With your PC running, move the bios selector switch to a different position from where you're at now.  This will flash whatever bios revision you chose on a different bios chip.  This way you'll have more than 1 bios to choose from for your IB-e chip.

Here's a link to revision 2.02 if you don't have it >> http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=2020338

Boot into the bios with your memory in the current slots that allow you to boot.  Then make your changes to the memory in the bios and shut down.  Then change your mem sticks to slots 1,3,5,7.  Power up and see if that works.

Re:EVGA X79 Dark Thursday, October 17, 2013 0:53 PM (permalink)
I am confused. It seems from your post that you actually got the board to boot into windows? If that's the case, then you should be able to get into the bios. Anyway, I had the same memory as you and ran into the same problem, except I could not even get into the bios from the beginning to even load windows. It's weird, I could get the board to boot with various ram slots populated in a nonstandard way but only 1 or 2 at a time. To get all 4 ram stciks working, this is what I did:
1) unplug pc and clear cmos (this board has a LOT of reserve power. After you unplug, hold the clear cmos button 30 secs at least)
2) put the memory in slots shown in the quick start poster
3) power on and enter bios. pay no attention to the graphical representation of the populated memory slots in the bios-they are wrong
4) adjust memory voltage to 1.65v manually for BOTH banks.
5) go to memory tab and set memory to xmp2 (the settings for 2133 mhz). make sure cl is 11
6) press F10, answer yes, board reboots and watch the post code error LED. Tell us where it gets stuck.

If you cant get into the bios, then boot with ONLY one memory stick in slot 1 as indicated on the poster. Enter the bios and make the above changes. Reboot and tell us if you can get into the bios with one stick.

If you still cannot get into the bios, change out that one stick with one of the others and repeat until you have tried all sticks in position 1. Let us know what happened.

Was not able to flash 2.02 bios all it does is reset the machine. I was however able get two of the bios clicks to have same bios . As for setting the to 1867 and mfg settings for volts I can do it with slot 1 filled as for filling remainder it posts code b7 and hangs.

Try the same thing, but try with 1333 for ram speed.  If that happens to work correctly, up it to 1600MHz.

mfg setting for volts is 1.5. This will not work. You need 1.65. I also could not get past 1 stick w 1.5 v You also need a beefy power supply.

Re:EVGA X79 Dark Thursday, October 17, 2013 8:24 PM (permalink)
I am using 1.65 volts for the ram on all the settings I am trying.
Here is my specs.
2 240GB Muskin SSDs
16GB of Kingston Beast X 2400Mhz the ones that are on the website.
4930K
1.5TB WD Black
x79 Dark
Corsair AX1200
I will attemp to clear this all up for any missing or miss understood parts.

1. I bulit the machine as it was suppose to be. RAM in 1,3,5,7 and moved the bios switch to 3 as it states in the book. It would not post hung on b7.
2. Shutdown. Removed 3,5,7 booted in to bios still on switch 3 set the memory to 1600 mhz and was able to install Windows 7 64 Bit OS.
3. Installed correctly then install the 2.05 bios thinking that is how I started most of my bulids with the newest bios. Then restarted going into bios setting back to 1.65 on both bridges and to 1600 mhz. Shutdown.
4. I place the RAM back in the 3,5,7 slots. Powered ON it again stopped posting on b7 as before so I called EVGA Support talked with them for 30mins.
5. tried all the suggestions like he asked and we got all the RAM to work in slots 1,2,5,6. Which is great but now I am getting stability issues as in it wouldn't even run OPTIMIZED SETTINGS in the bios or F5. Save and run. it would start run fine then would go to sleep and blue screen. So I started playing with settings. I noticed it was 1. Dual Channel not why I wanted to use this setup so that is issue I need to fix. 2. the bios and CPU Z doesn't show the same voltages plus the multipler is way off at 39 but it says auto. 3. go to run OCCT and it hangs works hangs works then I stop it so I don't have to get any blue screening. I go back to bios and set the setting 1600 mhz @ 9-9-9-24 @ 1.65v That is not even stable. I am at the point were I think I may need to RMA the motherboard or wish I had the abilty to get my money back cause I am not happy thus far. So if we can get the resolve I will be happy. If there isn't anything I haven't covered clearly please ask I have done all the step you all the commuinty have stated but, nothing is working as you say it should. Thanks again for your time I am grateful for the help you are trying to provide.
If I can't fix it this weekend I am RMAing to see if its just because my board has a flaw.

When you tried to flash bios rev 2.02, did you run it as the administrator?  Also, with your system running as it is, what is your VSA & VCCIO voltage readings in your bios?

Now even Tiger Direct shows the Dark "Out of Stock".  Any idea when more are available?  Just waiting to do a build.  Thanks-WB.

I ran it as admin it didn't do anything different than before. So I am with what the BIOS switch 1 is and 2 and 3 are 2.05. I am not able to get anything else done right now but I will be working on it most of the weekend and will post whatever becomes of my work.

1) If you can't get past post, reseat your ram.
2) Try booting with only one stick of ram in slot one.
3) Try booting each stick alone in slot one.
4) This will help to find a bad dimm
5) If all 4 dimm pass but don't post in quad than are the dimm from a quad kit or two dual kits?
6) If you tweak everything day one than you really have no base line for comparison
7) run your ram at factory voltage and factory latency and factory speed until you have a baseline established.
8) I your are recycling ram and making a quad kit from a couple of dual kits this may or may not work.
9) When all else fails clear the cmos.  When phonix bios you had to reset the bios to factory before flashing.  Not sure if this is still the case.
10) X79Dark is designed for 2400mhz+ dimm.  Ideally you want to buy a dimm less than 2400mhz so you have headroom to overclock.
11) A little confused as to your stock speed, voltage, and timings.  If your stock speed is 2400 why are you trying to run it at 1600?  Also don't understand why you are trying to run in dual mode.  Eliminate variables don't add more.  Unlikely 1.65V works at both 2400 and 1600 speeds.
12) More than likely the posting issues, and BSOD are from the Kingston memory.

Re:EVGA X79 Dark Monday, October 21, 2013 2:33 PM (permalink)
Thanks for your reply. I have reset my ram no many times nothing happens. I am able to boot with any of the sticks in slot one and it works fine. There is no bad dim they all show when I have them in dual channel 1256. Even with newest bios. I start with a base and I have the original bios plus 2.05 and 2.07 still no posting in quad channel. I have done all setting from 1333 all the way to 2400 MHz and get nothing more than dual channel which is not stable even when all the settings are placed in bios. As for resetting bios to manufacture setting when. I do this with 2.02 it show 3.4 and auto settings everywhere when I do it with 2.05 I get a clock 3 9 in bios on windows it's 3.6 with 2 07 I get 3.9 in bios and 3.6 in windows . I am awaiting word from engineer whether its a bios problem or its a motherboard error. Thanks for all your advice will let everyone know as soon as I do as to what's happening.
