Yes, I am. Since it was first leaked. :)

Well that takes that out of the equation.  Are you using 64-bit HPET with 64-bit Windows?

64-bit Windows, yes.
HPET is off. It is causing DPC and ISR Latency spikes, so I shut it off. Can try enabling it and report back, though.

If you can please, I would appreciate it very much!  I run 64-bit HPET enabled and I have no latency problems at all.  Latencies are always below 100 micro seconds.

I have around 150 with HPET on and around 20 with HPET off. So it's quite obvious for me. Going to reboot and find out about the whole VT-HPET thing.
Edit: 64-bit HPET is on. XP mode still works. Will try again once it reaches 30 mins of uptime.
On a side note: I am using manual vCore, ACPI is set to S1, the integrated sound card is disabled, C6 is disabled (set to C3), all other CPU features are enabled, boot display = PCIex, clocks are at stock since I've just started testing this BIOS, haven't really loaded any profiles either, obviously (that's bad for your PC).

More info...
Downloaded this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=0ee2a17f-8538-4619-8d1c-05d27e11adb2
It says hardware VT is not enabled. Yet XP Mode still works...
Weird.
I am downloading VMWare Workstation 7 to find out for sure. I think the checker utility might be buggy.
Edit1: installed VMWare, forced it to use VT-x, it said Virtualization was disabled in BIOS. XP Mode still works - so disregard VirtualPC for testing.
Trying without HPET now.
Edit2: well, that's funny. I disabled HPET, and now both MS tool and VMWare tell me that Hardware Virtualization is enabled. Virtualization is still set to "Enabled" in BIOS. Note, I am only rebooting, no power downs. Going to see if still works in 30 mins of uptime.
Edit3: 25 mins and still going strong. Installing XP on VMWare using forced VT-x/EPT. MS tool keeps reporting that everything is in check. Everything seems to be well. I have not tried the whole "Enabled = Disabled for VT in BIOS" thing, so if the HPET trick and using the same settings I do does not work, give it a try.
Edit4: somewhat odd stuff. Since either disabling HPET or installing VMWare XP mode does not want to work anymore. Not sure why. Not bothered to reinstall right now. VMWare still works... However, not sure it uses HW Virtualization... I know when I first installed it I got pop-ups "Using HW Virtualization" and  "HW Virtualization is not available". I have it set to VT-x/EPT, and I guess it just works. Can't get it to show any pop-ups. So I don't know how to surely find out whether VT works well or not. MS checker tool keeps saying that everything is fine.
I think that's enough food for thought for today.

Following the issue back. Looks like dejanh was right, and even with HPET off (VT on in BIOS) I am starting to see some weird things. Haven't changed anything since yesterday.
XP mode works again. Yay. Or not.
Then again, going back to the MS tool... I "think" I ran it earlier and it said HW VT was enabled; now after a few hours it says it doesn't. Well, maybe I am imagining things...
BUT! VMWare clearly says that HW VT is disabled in BIOS (I get these pop-ups every time).
So looks like I can only get one of them working at a time right now...
Edit: just rebooted intending to turn HPET on... And experienced a full power cycle. Yes, that's right, the PC powered down and then went back up (that's before I could get into BIOS to change anything, just fyi). So even the double pump fix doesn't reliably work anymore.
So... HW VT testing:
MS tool - check;
XP mode - check;
VMWare - fail;
MS tool again (all testing done within 5 minutes) - fail;
XP mode - check.
I am happy to do more Beta testing, but I believe this beta is a failed one. It is obviously buggy.

Re:EVGA X58 Motherboards - BIOS 81 Released 2011/04/15 05:03:25 (permalink)
A difference that this bios has for me is that for the first time in many bios versions I did not have to unplug and then replug in the power cord to get the computer to post. After doing this once after the installation of a new bios there would be no more problems.

It took me some time to figure it out for the previous bios starting around the early 70's. I would load the new bios and the computer would not get to the 2D post numbers. I would clear CMOS, then take the battery out, unplug it and finally get it to post. But I was able to figure out that just unplugging it and then replugging the power cord would make it post.

I do not understand where the settings are that would keep it from posting but my conjecture is that there was some setting somewhere not connected to the battery that was still powered up when the computer was shut down (like the pulsing red light over the X58 controller that keeps working even thought the computer is "off") but plugged into the wall. This is the 759 version.

I updated to the new BIOS last night from 78 and I love it.  Not only does my computer post faster, but now my 950 accurately clocks up/down correctly.  The VT also works correctly on my board, too.  I guess it does work correctly on the newer boards (770 I have).  My temps are higher by a few degrees, but this is due to the Speedstep working correctly now (and the voltages set at 1.22 or so).

I love this new update, but it looks like they need to fix it for the older boards.

Guys, it is imperative that anyone experiencing any issues with VT post their experience, and as much details about problems as possible including motherboard part number and revision number.

Considering that to date most who reported VT as working correctly identified it as not working correctly at closer inspection, I would be inclined to say that testing needs to be more rigorous.  It's not enough to just check if VT can be enabled in the BIOS and the board does not double-pump, nor is it enough to just try one run of some VM.  Anyway, I think sufficient detail around all of this has now been posted in this thread.

If we want a proper fix for this, we have to help EVGA out in diagnosing the issue and point out the problems we are having.

Good call dejanh!

141-BL-E760-A1 Rev 1.0
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
An existing XP Mode VM created under beta Bios 80 only works with Bios 80; with 81 the VM will not open and reports a mismatch/or/hardware virtualization not enabled error.  Toggling the BIOS VT Switch between Enabled and Disabled produces the same results, so essentially my configuration doesn't exhibit "reversed" logic as others have reported seeing.

I'm still waiting on the provision of a Rev 1.1 board from eVGA (to address an ongoing S3 issue) and will report back on VM performance if things (delivery of that mobo) occur in a time relevant manner.

Ok, here it goes.

I have a 132-BL-E758-A1, Rev 1.1, AKA E758. :) See sig for other hardware. I am running Windows 7 x64 Sp1, but I experienced similar issues when this fix was attempted with BIOS 49 prior to SP1. I gave up on 49 went to 74 at the time. All is well. My Windows XP Mode VM was created pre-Sp1. This morning I flashed 78 and my Windows XP Mode is working perfectly.

As for BIOS 81, I get the *same exact* results as dejanh. Exactly. The same flip-flopping of the MS HAV tool telling me I have have hardware VT and that I don't. Windows XP Mode won't run regardless of it being Enabled or Disabled.  I am not overclocking anything right now. The funny thing is, with regards to dejanh, is we have different boards with the same exact reproducible issue.

I highly doubt that. You just didn't do enough testing. It's broken, and doesn't work 100% of the time with 100% of the software.

That's exactly my point.  Unfortunately the same type of information was provided to EVGA before release and they were under the impression that things are fine and the BIOS is good to be released.  Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Hey dejanh, may you please tell us what are the procedures (steps) needed  to check if VT is working properly or not including the reboot and fresh boot.
I'm downloading now WindowsXP mode to check but please let me know what to do exactly!

Awesome!  So with that bit of trivia aside, where's the value add in your post?
Did you forget to type "BIOS 81 is awesomer than anything I've used previously and I love it"?
Nobody said you can't write what you want, I just didn't (and still don't) see your point...

If you chimed in just to slam Virtual Machines - heh - well then, awesome and thanks for contributing.

By posting on this thread is obvious that he uses the bios 81.

Want to know my configuration? I simply expressed my opinion on the matter, it is a crime?

You may not use VT but if you really wanted to help, you could download Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode, two downloads, for free and see if it works. Afterwards, you can then disable VT and uninstall.

You need Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate.

EVGA_JacobF

BIOS 81 Updates:
  • Fix cold reset when VT is enabled
  • Adds screen clear before invoking option rom
  • Includes Intel RAID Rom to 10.5.0.744
  • Includes CPU Microcode to version 13
  • Includes Intel AHCI Rom to 1.07.10
  • Includes JMicron ROM to 1.07.25
  • Includes Realtek PXE Rom to 2.39

No dice Jacob - onboard Intel RAID still will NOT post with LSI 9260 installed (same problem in BIOS 80). This is the same 'Option ROM' issue... LSI 9260 post is (erroneously) reporting "cannot invoke" even with all JMicron disabled (but the card/drives attached to it work fine). I must boot off onboard Intel ICH10R - 9260-8i is for my 16TB RAID5 array exclusively...reverting back to BIOS 79 until fixed.

ok I rebooted now then I opened the HAV detection tool after fresh reboot, it says VT enabled. Then I installed windows xp mode, it started fine then I went to check with HAV tool again and now it says VT is disabled hence I can still run windows XP mode fine even when HAV tool says VT is disabled!

  If I try to run the HAV detection tool from the windows XP mode in the same session which says VT is disabled in win7, it says it is enabled in XP

can't set my memory on 1600 mhz.   in Bios my setting show 1600 and 2:12, but looking in E-leet. it shows 2:8.

Do you have 'turbo performance' (not turbo mode) enabled in the BIOS?
