Hrrm yeah it's just weird from what I've read about C1E as to why it would allow me to boot with c-state on.  I might even just have to settle on a non-cstate overclock to 3.5 for now until I get the cooling situation fixed.

One thing I DID notice when testing FSX last night with turbomode etc. on is that when only 1-2 cores were in use and the cpu ramped up to 3.9-4Ghz I had the exact same FPS as if I went into eleet and shut off turbo and it dropped back to 3.35Ghz (21x160).  That tells me that until I get the case situation fixed and can do a higher constant OC accross the board on all cores, that I'm probably at the sweet spot for now at 160x21.

It definitely passed 20 runs of Linx at 160x21 with turbomode on but cstate and C1E off.  That gives me a 1 multiplier increase on that to 3.5Ghz (160x22) on all cores.  Definitely a nice increase vs. stock of getting a max turbomode of 3.4Ghz if I go down to 1 core.

Do I actually need to get a 1000w PSU in order to overclock great then 3.5 GHz. Currently I am using a 850w Corsair HX. I have tried to get past 3.5 GHz but then it won't post?

Thanks
Ken

850W Corsair Power is absolutly enough.

Try more Vcore, more VTT and .. why ur PCH is so high???
My 860 is working at 4 GHz with 1.04V PCH. (PCH = Southbridge)

Hold on, I heard it was bad to go past 1.20 on the VTT, is that still true? I will give it more VCore probably 1.35000.

Yes, the Intel Specs are 1.21V maximum for the VTT.
BUT ... you'll find in a lot other threats, the information, that I won't be dramatic if you put 1.3V on VTT.
Some guys works with 1.4V and more..

If you overclock, u are out of any spec ;)

Try 1.35V CPU and 1.3 VTT, when this works, go back into bios and clock down, boot again, prime ur system and when everything is fine, go back and clock down again.
Maybe 1.25V VTT is enough for 4 GHz.
Depends on the CPU

my 860 is degrading I think or the newer bios just arent as good for ocing as the earlier ones. it used to run these settings exactly as posted on the first page but with less vtt now it needs more vcore like 1.36v im aiming for less vtt though so been using around 1.325v. VTT=more heat and that blows

A51 FTW , I have tested different bioses on an i7-860 , i7/Xeon 3440 ,and an i3-530 .

A51 wins every time ,No D4 loop ,No excessive voltages needed for stability.

They say opposites attract. I hope you meet someone who is good-looking, intelligent, and cultured.

well Peeps I just got to say thanks for all the info and help from reading all your sugestions, and all your screen shots. Withou any of this i would have taken a year to get a nice overclock 176x22 which gives me 3873.2mhz  obviously with with turbo boost enabled. she past all of hyper pi no problem now all thats left is to prime 95 it just to see how stable it will stay. I got to work tomorrow so it may take a day or 2 to post a couple of no BS screenshots. my system is just a week old and i think i would have narrowed down this oc alot faster (due to the overclocking guide) But OCZ REAPER HPC 8 gigs was troubling me, turns out the 1.65 setting only gives it 1.63 so i bumped it up to 1.66 which gives me a steady 1.65 in windows and boom hyper pi done. I love My Classified 200 its going to be real tough to beat this board and no need to py the extra cash for a better processor when this one clocks into an Extream Processor for a quarter of the cost........oh yeah this is my first build and first Overclocked so I am a lil tweaked myself. I could not have done it without These forms and Jacobs OC Guide......

Thanks Jacob And Thanks To Everyone Who Posted A Result.

What are you guys using for your MCH straps?? and QPI frequency?? also has anyone messed around with the cpu signal settings at all?? can someone post a bios guid for 4.4ghzish on i7-860?? its not as simple as bumping up the multi and upping the settings from this guide aat least for me it isnt I get 4.2ghz fine 4.3ghz ok but I do 22 multi 200blck and i get super instability I have upped the volts to 1.5V with nothing and 4.2ghz I only need 1.4v so something else is going on here

@overclocking101:
what's up with the VTT and the CPU PWM Frequency?

BTW: your signature said, that ur 860 is at 4.4. with 1.3???? ;)
Turbo.. or?

And.. if 22x200 won't work for you, try 210x21 ;)

the 860 WAS at 4.4 with 1.3 but not anymore, shes being very finicky.  VTT PWM freq maxed, same with cpu pwm freq.  Getting  210 bclck is a challenge big time. im not looking for 24/7 stability simply looking for bench stability. I have found that the 1333mhz strap and the 1067mhz strap are working much better for higher oc's. and I have earned a few extra bclck by setting the cpu signal settings to -25

I have been trying the newer bios's the past few days, but still get the best results with the older A29 bios on the P55 E657 FTW board and an i7-870. The newer ones require more voltage for the same clocks. I have not tested on a Clarkdale CPU yet, maybe they are better for the newer chips.

How high do you think it is safe to go with the following config:
i7 860 (stock cooling, for now)
P55 SLI
Corsair XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (Model CMX4GX3M2A1600C9)
EVGA 8800GT
WD Caviar Black 1TB
Corsair 650TX
HAF 922 (stock fans, hopefully good cable management)
DVD Burner

Think i could hit 3.5GHz Stable? (with Turbo Boost, HyperThreading, and Vdroop on)
(ambient room temp is ~25C)

How high do you think it is safe to go w/ an i7 860, a HAF 922 (stock config) and the stock cooler on the CPU? 3.2-3.7? higher?

High enough so your temps are not over 80C.

My I7 860 needs 1.425v VTT and 1.375v VCC. anything less than 1.425v VTT and i get BSOD 0x00000124.  Any idea why i need such high VTT?

With the stock cooler, i got it to 3.35ghz at a very low voltage, i think 1.1125v core and the other ones are low too. It hits 4ghz on turbo.

picking up a new cooler soon

evga boards for some reason need more vtt. but im willing to bet if you loosen your ram timings you can drop your vtt a bit. I think evga progamed the bios wrong somewhere because some boards have vtt (bclck/fsb voltage) AND mch voltage where these board have it as one setting which I think is why evga users need higher vtt. just a theory but I bet im right

I really don't understand what I am missing, frustrating the hell out of me. I really just tried bumping the VCore and the Clock to get to 4.0 GHz, but I keep getting Watchdog after 3.6 GHz and then I had to CMOS Reset. I am back at 3.5 Ghz, but now my OS loads slower then before the CMOS Reset.

Could someone give me some good tips, I have tried lowering my PCH to 1.04v but it only got to 1.50? I am not sure which PCH is being referred to.

Just someone give me some tips, at least to get my OS booting faster with the OC of 3.5 GHz.

KenSullivan, try to loose latencies on memory, put some 9-9-9-27 and CR 2T and probably you won't get the watchdog timeout error.

But I am pretty sad, I can't boot over 192 BCLK.
Have played with everything, VCore, VTT, PCH, PLL, DRAM, MCH Strap, QPI.
I only didn't play with Signals.

Can anyone help me? :D
I get no boot when I set 200 BClk. Just B8 -> FF loop.

I have ordered my FTW200 Motherboard ,which should be arriving any day ,and I am very happy I chose to go with EVGA . I have currently been using an Intel DP55KG ,and have been very disappointed with my OC . My max speed ,stable has been 3.5 Ghz on my 860 using the CM Hyper 212 in  push/pull mode  to keep things cool .This was my first build ,so I've learned I will never buy an Intel MB again!!
