You want to run that memory at 1600 MHz instead of 1333 MHz, correct?  Well you're going to have to overclock the CPU for that, since with most if not all LGA 1156 CPUs (not sure about i7 875k) the default BCLK is 133 MHz and the highest RAM divider is 2:10.  133 MHz BCLK x 10 = 1330 MHz.  If a 2:12 divider is available then you can run it at 1596 MHz but I don't think there is a 2:12 divider for this platform.

Check your BIOS and see the options for DRAM Frequency.  If it's only Auto, 2:8 and 2:10 then you'll have to overclock your CPU to get 1600 MHz.  The easiest way would be to first set the RAM to the specified timings and voltage, increase BCLK to 160 MHz and set the DRAM Frequency to 2:10.  Then run IntelBurnTest for at least 20 passes.  If you fail the test, set your Bootup CPU VCore and Eventual CPU VCore to 1.2v and test again.  If you fail raise VCore until you pass the test, or at least look for improvement.  A small VCore increase will probably be the only thing necessary to get your CPU stable at 160 MHz BCLK, if anything.

Thanks! I just got my exact same setup yesterday and im hoping to get the same performance.

But i got two questions, what cooler are you using and what temperatures are you at? Also do you ever hear the annoying crackling sound when you play games? I get it with all of my games. The computer shuts down without a blue screen like the CPU overheated or something. I tried runing stock as well but no luck. Any ideas?

How are your CPU core temperatures?  Your PSU might not be beefy enough to handle your setup.

From everything I've read, the i7 Lynnfield actually has a divider up to 12 so he shouldn't have to overclock.

Just click on it and enter the desired speed.  Then press enter.  It's a bit different than other boards I've used too.

Yeah, figured it was something simple like that...  Thanks..

I am trying to get a feel for this board. One thing I am noticing is that the voltage seems to fluctuate, I have EVGA VDroop set to "without vdroop" but I notice in cpu-z and HWMonitor that my idle voltage dips really low. Is this normal?

Here is a base I am going to try, CPU @ 4.0 - Ram @ 1600

CPU Multi - 20
CPU Skew COntrol - 0
Clockgen Switch Mode - Enable
CPU Freq - 200
PCIE Freq - 100
QPI Frequency - Auto
MCH Strap - Auto
Extreme Cooling - Disable
EVGA VDRoop Control - Without
Boot Up CPU Vcore - 1.35
Eventual CPU Vcore - 1.35
DIMM Voltage - 1.65
Boot Up CPU VTT - 1.35
Eventual CPU VTT - 1.35
PCH - Auto (1.050V)
CPU PLL - 1.80V (Auto)

Not sure if I am missing anything...

That's a bit odd.  I have a P55 FTW and i5 760.  I don't use VDroop either and my VCore is always higher than my BIOS setting.  It's set to 1.30625v but runs at 1.317v when idle.

That seems to have gone away...  Strange...
My voltage in bios is 1.31, windows idle is 1.305 load its 1.32..

What are your VTT & PLL voltages?

Here is where I am at right now...  20 pass LinX stable, will do a prolonged Prime test tonight..

Temps are not an issue, so any help getting to 4.0 and beyond is appreciated..

CPU Multi - 19 (3.80)
CPU Skew COntrol - 0
Clockgen Switch Mode - Enable (cant disable after cpu freq 200)
CPU Freq - 200

QPI Frequency - Auto (Options for 4.27 & 4.80)
MCH Strap - Auto (Ram running at 1600 now)
Extreme Cooling - Disable
EVGA VDRoop Control - Without
Boot Up CPU Vcore - 1.3125
Eventual CPU Vcore - 1.3125
DIMM Voltage - 1.65
Boot Up CPU VTT - 1.30
Eventual CPU VTT - 1.30
PCH - Auto (1.050V) (what is this?)
CPU PLL - 1.80V (Auto) ?? Should I raise this for higher OC? what is it in reference to)

DIMM 1/2 DQ VRef - 0mV
DIMM 3/4 DQ VRef - 0mV

CPU PWM Frequency - 477KHz
VTT PWM Frequency - 240KHz

That's not how overclocking works.  Different settings are required for everyone, except those who have the same CPU batch which is rare.  You'll have to find out yourself by following an overclocking guide.  I hope you have a good aftermarket CPU cooler as well.  The stock cooler can't handle overclocks.  3.8 GHz is an oddball achievement for an i5 760.  181 MHz QPI x 21?  Might as well aim for 200 x 21 for 4.2 GHz, which I did.

You can do 3.8 if you drop the multiplier by one. That'll give you 200 x 19, running at a 2:10 RAM divider for him. Pain, your job then is to read the guide, learn to overclock, and figure out your voltages.

I guess what I'm asking is, is there a guide for the I5 760 that I can follow and if anyone has overclocked this particular cpu what settings did they use to make it stable?  I have never overclocked any of my previous cpu's and I don't want to do something wrong to cause it to go bad.  looking for help basically.  Thanks for any that I get.

Refer to the sticky: http://www.techreaction.net/2010/09/07/3-step-overclocking-guide-lynnfield/

Follow his guide, but keep in mind that your target frequency: 3800 mhz, revolves around these settings: 200 x 19, 2:10 RAM divider. The guide will take you through finding the right voltages and stress testing them out.

Depends on the temps it will operate at.  This depends on the CPU cooler and voltages you'll be using, but most i5 760s can reach 4.2 GHz without too much trouble as long as you have a good CPU cooler and decent motherboard.

Each cpu is different. There is an entire thread dedicated to the i5-760 at overclock.net, all different boards and ram..

Some people are able to hit 4.0 + on low volts. I see guys doing it on 1.29v core 1.28v VTT...

Personally I have tried as high as 1.34v core (bios) & 1.32v VTT (bios) which translate to 1.364v core & 1.34v VTT windows load.
Still not stable at 4.0...

I have dropped down and trying to get stable at 3.8 now..

Some cpu's just dont clock as well as others..

you guys should not have to mess with pll for your clocks but might gain a little more stability by upping pch a notch or two.. my ftw/i5 750 does not like bios a72 as much as a51 for higher clocks.. if you go 191x21 on i5 750 you might find you can get stable with lower volts then say using 200 bclk.. just like said,, every one is different.. mine likes 1.38 cpu with anything over 200 bclk but will run 191x21 with both cpu/vtt under 1.30.. for 21x210 i have to run 1.46 cpu 1.375 vtt.. everything mentioned above without vdroop..

evga ftw, i5 750 @ 4.4 under water.. 2x2 trident, HD7950 corsair tx850, raptors/raid.

Late Setember I purchased  from Tiger Direct a computer mostly assembled where I had to install the EVGA GtX 470, 2 hard drives and 2 DVD drives.  The discreption of the computer from the invoice is    Intel Core i7 4ghz Overclocked Barebone PC-EVGA p55 FTW SLI Motherboard Intel Core i7-875 Processor, 4GB DDR3 Ram, cooler Master HAF 922 Chassis, Thermaltake 850w PSU ,Asetek Liquid cooling.     Worked well for 7 weeks then about 5 days ago It started heating up (106oC). After several phone calls I ended up at Intel and their advice was to flash the BIOS. Imediately took care of the heating problem.  My guess is that the overclocking setting was in the original bios from Tiger Direct supplied by EVGA.  When I flashed the bios the Overclocking went away. I have beeen trying your Guide with no sucess. I thought that my system was very close to what is discribed in your Guide.  The main difference being the liquid cooling and in the BIOS  I could not change the multiplier Setting from 22 to 21 Everything else seemed to match your guide.  There Is one more addition I added that I forgot . another memory set. The orignial Corsair XMS3 and my new Kingston Hyper X   All 1 Gig total of 4
When I got the system running for a short time the CPU-Z Core Speed was in excess of 4600.   Without  doing anything the core speed was 2929.6 MHz    Any help will be great The Bios I flashed was e657.a72    Gene    I will gladly send whatever screenshots I can get!

Does this guide refer to the P55 LE as well?
My bios looks the same, but some of the options aren't listed.......

My computer was purchased from Tiger Direct and was shipped overclocked. The motherboard as I understand Is different than the standard motherboard EVGA P55 FTW SLI.  I had some trouble and it took me several days to find the people that made the changes and a copy of their BIOS.  I am now able to use 2 Corsair 1 GIG memory sticks but in addition have added 2 1 Gig Kingston sticks all from Tiger Direct. Since I loaded the 2 Bios configurations I have not had 1 problem and rock solid at 4000MHz  Gene
