so we never did hear back from EVGA about the voltage concerns/questions that were raised earlier in this thread...

Hello friends. I'm having trouble on my i5 on p55 ftw. I can not overclock stability. I'm currently trying:
Clock = 3.7 - 195x19

BIOS
Vcore = 1.28v
VTT = 1.22
PCH = 1.05
PLL = 1.80
VDIMM = 1.65

I think my problem is the VTT, but according to intel site, it is advisable to pass the 1.21v. What is the recommendation and that voltage would be nice to use the 3.7/3.8 GHz vtt? Thank you for your attention, sorry my english

Hi

I think you can try 1.30 vcore, and 1.40 VTT

On my i7 870, my VTT is 1.40..

Thank sargt. But the topics you are now on the i7, I wonder about the vtt, pch, pll in i5. What is safe and recommended voltage ok? Thanks for helping

I thought I'd post these here since I just finished typing them up elsewhere.

Here are my settings for a nice stable 3.8Ghz/200BLCK.  I get a consistent 52GFlops in Linx 8-thread using all memory.  Hope this can help someone.

vcore: 1.281v (Bios) 1.305v (E-leet) 1.33v (load E-leet)
Vdroop disabled
VTT: 1.375v (bios) 1.375v (E-leet) 1.38v (load E-Leet)
Ram voltage: 1.64v
PCH: 1.05v
PLL: 1.8v

CPU multiplier is 19x
BLCK: 200Mhz
PCI-E: 104Mhz (But I don't notice this making a difference)
QPI: 4.8GT/s

CPU PWM Frequency: 1189KHz
VTT PWM Frequency: 634KHz
DDR PWM Frequency: 634KHz
CPU Signal 1: Less
CPU Signal 3: -31
CPU Signal 4: -31
CPU PCIE 1/2: Auto
DDR Signal 1/2/3: Auto
DMI Signal: -31
PCH Signal -31

Ram settings are: 1333Mhz (2:10) for 2000Mhz 8-9-8-24 (rated values)

HT is disabled.  Gaming and LinX actually perform better without it due to the way it is implemented by Intel.  Also, helps to reduce CPU temperature output.

Power saving features are disabled. :(

Anything unmentioned is on Auto/default.

Hi, I just received my ftw p55 today, and will be getting corsair obsidian in a few days, then its build time. I am struggling on whether to try corsair H50 and add two noctua exhausting on the top, in place of my regular noctua/hyper 212 unit. Any comments on the h50. I plan to follow Jacobs oc instructions to the t...also looking at ram, thinking of the g skill trident 4 gb 2000's, or should i stick with ripjaws or maybe mushkin 1600's...and then of course i will have to wait and see about the video card...should i wait for new nvidia or just go 285 or 5870...comments, suggestions are greatly appreciated

I have the H50, and my only experience is that at full load in prime 95 at stock settings my CPU is only at 40C.  I would guess that leaves me a bit of headroom for overclocking at a later time.

You may be able to get a small overclock on the stock cooler, but don't expect too much. Having DDR3-1333 RAM is going to be a potential limiting factor as well. Don't be afraid to try though, just keep a close eye on the temperatures.

Hi Guy's,
I'm going to get the EVGA P55 FTW also, my question is, what memory should I get and how much, 4 or 6 gb?? I'll be using windows 7 Ultimate 32bit. Thx

Re:EVGA P55 Overclocking Guide 2010/02/21 00:06:17 (permalink)
You're not going to get 6GB for sure, because the P55 has 2 memory channels, so really your options are 2, 4, & 8GB.  If you're only going to run 32bit, then if you get 4GB, the system won't be able to use it all.  Personally I'd recommend any new system run the 64bit version.  The only reason I could see for not doing that is if you had a device who's driver specifically doesn't work in 64bit, and that should be getting rare.  When I was doing 64bit vista, a few of my devices like the iphone and an e-reader didn't have 64bit drivers at first, but even then that eventually got sorted out.  So I'd recommend running Win7 64bit and I'd say 4GB should be fine.  I have 8GB in my current system, and I think it's a little overkill for me.  If you're doing some real audio/video work, then I could see going 8GB.

i7 860 <> EVGA P55 FTW <> Windows 7 Home 64-bit
4 X 2GB Corsair Dominators  CMD8GX3M4A1600C8 <> Corsair H50
EVGA GTX 580 w/ AXP & VR004 <> X-Fi Fatal1ty <> Benq FP241W <> TB HPA2 5.1 headset
Intel X25-G2 160GB, WD 1001FALS x 3 <> LG H62L DVD <> Pioneer BDR-203BKS
Seasonic X750 PSU <> Silverstone TJ09 <> Logitech G700 <> Logitech G19

I got my board EVGA P55 FTW and an i7 860 CPU already just waiting on the rest of the parts to arrive, tomorrow hopefully! Thermaltake 850W PSU, Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz RAM, 1 XFX HD 5850 1GB, all going to be stuffed into a Antec 1200 case with a V-8 Cooler, using Windows 7 64bit. Plan to OC to at least 4Ghz but will have to see how hot it all gets, can't wait!

I have an Classified 200, a Core i7 860 at stock, Patriot G Series ‘Sector 5’ Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666), and a Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 7 Rev2 and a 9800 GTX+ at 800 MHz. I was wondering if I could take baby steps and just get it to 3.5 GHz(166 Freq), since I am running lower frequency RAM, and don't want to toast my board. The AC Freezer Pro 7 came with already applied MX-2, even though I already have everything put together should I remove the MX-2 and apply Arctic Silver 5?

4.2 is not happening!  I have everything set as Jacob suggested except cpu freq. which I set @ 160 giving me 3520, set dimm freq to 1333 which gives me 1600mhz,  I have 1600mhz Dominator's which are supposed to have timings @ 8-8-8-24 which I set in BIOS, this is the only OC that is working ATM. Did I miss something? Gotta be a way to get this up closer to 4Ghz.

E-Leet info, can someone tell me what I can do to boost this up some, thanx.

Is the multiplier locked @ 21 on the e657? I haven't been able to change it??? Also is it best to run a higher multiplier or a higher BLCK? I can't go past 160mhz with Jacobs OC advise

You will probably need to push Vcore higher. Most people need Vcore 1.35-1.4V to reach 4.2GHz.

Also, 200x21 seems to be most common for 4.2GHz clock & multiplier.

In FF if you right click on the pic and 'view image' they'll get bigger so you can see them but I'll just make 'em bigger anyways next time. I'm using the Cooler Master V-8 in a Antec 1200 case.

You will probably need to push Vcore higher. Most people need Vcore 1.35-1.4V to reach 4.2GHz.

Also, 200x21 seems to be most common for 4.2GHz clock & multiplier.

Thanx, I'll keep trying and go higher on the voltages

Hi guys, i got a P55 mb and try to overclock my core i7 860 @ 4.2Ghz following this guide.
Even if i set Vcore to 1.425 it's not stable on prime95/OCCT. Something I forgot ? SpeedStep/HT/C-State/C1E Disabled. I've the huge NH-D14 so temps are under 80° at 1.425V.

My ram G.Skill DDR3-1600 set to 7-7-7-24 T1 works fine. Do I need the 2nd 8pin connector ? But i don't think so (TDP is 95W). Also which Bios are you using (mine is A59) ?

Here are the E-LEET screens
