Hi everyone,

Just discovered this community. I received a brand new 3090 K|NGP|N Hybrid yesterday and wow what a beauty!   I'm having an issue where it's not being detected by BIOS or W10 Device Manager.  The OLED and LED turns on, the fans spin, the OLED says
  • 0.798V NVVDD
  • 27.5C
  • 788 RPM
I've performed the troubleshooting steps listed below.  All the jumpers on the back of the card are set to OFF.  I'm running 3 separate 8-pin VGA power cables to the card.  I'm currently booted into the PC with a 3070 installed as a 2nd GPU and my display is connected to it.  The K|NGP|N is not detected under any circumstance, but it's plugged into the first PCIe slot.

I'm willing to try anything else you may suggest.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance.

PC specs:
  • ASRock B550M/ac (latest BIOS update)
  • Ryzen 9 5950X
  • 8GB x 2 DDR4
  • WD 1TB m.2 NVMe
  • EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2
  • W10 21H1 all updates installed
  • NVIDIA 471.11 Game Ready Driver
Troubleshooting steps:
  • swapped HDMI Ultra High Speed cables with known good working cables
  • swapped DP cables with known good working cables
  • swapped monitors (MSI Optix MAG272C, VIZIO E70E3 4K HDR LED, RCA 4K HDR Cheap-o TV, LG 48CX OLED)
  • swapped GPUs (3080 Gaming X Trio, 3070 FE, 3080 FTW3, 3060 Ti FE)
  • swapped PSUs for other known good working EVGA 1300 G2 (I have 9 of these)
  • swapped VGA cables from other EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G2 PSUs
  • clear CMOS settings
  • tried a different PC at friend's house (MSI X570 Unify, Ryzen 9 3950X)
  • booted from a FreeDOS USB stick to attempt NVFlash (affected GPU not listed)
  • attempted NVFlash in W10 (affected GPU not listed)
  • installing/removing 2nd GPU (VGA error on friend's PC when 2nd GPU was removed, no errors on my PC with or without 2nd GPU installed)
  • DDU & reinstall current and previous NVIDIA Game Ready & Studio drivers
  • prayer
  • sad face
  • despair
Edit - i also tried:
  • booting without a display cable plugged in, then plugging cable in after 30 seconds
  • moving the Kingpin to difference PCIe slots

close

Welp out of curiosity I partially disassembled the card and found this damage near the 8-pin power connectors.

Ouch, that sucks... my condolences. Time for RMA.

Awwww.  With these 30 series products always being out of stock, will EVGA have the parts or replacement product on hand to process an RMA?  I hope I won't have to wait for months or a year for resolution.

Hopefully the dip switches will be of benefit to others though.  If someone does have luck, would appreciate you reporting back.

Without changing voltages in classified. Some reason it won't open on my card?? Maybe a new update?

Good score seems right about on-par. I score 15,379 without Classified, unfortunately my card does not scale well with voltage though, so that tool is essentially useless in my case.

If you have a Kingpin Hydrocopper (the original SKU, not an AIO SKU with HC block installed) then apparently there's a new version of the Classified tool that you will need to e-mail Vince to acquire. Your serial # will be logged and you will lose your warranty, just so you're aware.

Just a heads-up, I have verified with EVGA that you do not lose your warranty if you use the Classified tool.  I have also verified with EVGA that the only reason Vince asks for the serial number is to verify you do indeed have a KPE card.  Now I do not know if this is true if you request the 1000w BIOS from Vince, so I can't comment on that, but felt it was important to let everyone know the feedback I received from EVGA regarding the Classified tool.

These change the Load Line Level, but I have no idea by how much.  I tried them, but they did not help me at all.  But it turns out my KPE HC was not even stable at default settings.  The only way I could get it to run without crashing was lowering the Power limit below a 100. :(.

Good to know re: Classified tool. I did find it odd that you needed to e-mail Vince for the new version as the older versions never had that requirement and didn't void warranty.

1000w bios definitely voids your warranty, if not EVGA needs to come out and state it plainly. There's a reason everyone is afraid of being the one to be caught "leaking" it.

I think i might have gotten the worst kingpin ever, not possible to do more than +115 on core and +800 memory, and i put memory higher to 900 or 1000 i get artifacts and strange colours + timespycrashing. **** what can be wrong here ?

I'm thinking that you might actually have the 2nd worst KP ever.  I can't seem to get it stable over +110 and practically nothing, if anything (meaning +0) on the VRAM.   Trying to figure out what information to gather in order to ask for some help.   All the information going around about what to change and how to change it is seemingly a hot mess.  If anyone knows of a pretty solid guide/group/post/video on dialing in (AND UP) the OC on this card, please, please let me know.  I have been scouring information literally for the last 2 days and all I can seem to come up with are bits and pieces.

How about that?  I watched the first one from him, but didn't see a second one listed.  Maybe it's time to step away from this thing for a while and let my eyes rest....haha.   Seriously though, thank you very much for the info.

You're welcome, I find these informative in so far as you can compare on screen temps/settings etc.. He has another video on more advanced overclocking, but that requires the 1000w bios.

Also, he has an interesting video which discusses possible issues with the thermal paste/putty application out of the factory. May not be an issue for everyday use but very informative non the less and helpful if you re-paste ate some future point.

Mine seems to be a real clunker. It doesn't really seem stable at above 2085mhz and +1000 on memory. At least in Metro Exodus, it will crash pretty quickly if I try and push it. At full stock settings it runs at around 1950 boost. Bleh.

I decided to try something new. I had been using the +100mv offset in precision. For my card, turning that off helped quite a bit. I was able to crack 15k in Port Royale.

https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/63690964?

+150/+1350 offset. This run was done with every fan I have at max.

That said, it is not game stable. Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition will crash in the menu.

*EDIT* So I dropped to +100/+1250, and that ran Metro for about an hour before it crashed. Seems like it's a really good game to stress test. I also noticed that by not using a the +100mv offset I actually have higher power draw in the game. Hit 511w at one point and was regularly in 490s. Interestingly clocks went as low as 2025. Perhaps my playing with classified tool I could make it more stable, but this seems about where my card caps out.

Just had the first couple minutes with my kingpin hybrid version and well I'm not too impressed. Don't get me wrong the card itself is beautiful but I got a terrible overclocker. Or at least when want to go without classified tool.
On the 520w bios the card is unstable with a Core offset > 105
Mem is stable with +1700
Highest PR score so far: 14500
I do have a full custom loop and a 3090 ftw3 with ekwb block.
My highest PR score with the ftw3 was 15400. But I can score 15300 all day with the ftw3

This is 99% exactly the same situation as me.  I'm not running a custom loop is my only real difference.  That and literally ANYTHING over 300 on the VRAM not only crashes, but it does a nasty reboot of the system.  I don't even know where to begin to figure out where the problem lies.  I have NOT received the BIOS from Vince yet, so maybe that might fix my issues.   I have the classified tool, but when I have crashes in games, I've no idea which settings to tweak to try and fix it.   I'm trying to find answers and I've watched a lot of videos and read lots of posts, and I have no problem doing research, but if there is anything I'm missing, please let me know.  Thanks in advance for any help and I sure appreciate it.  Thank you!

I am baffled with how to overclock the KPH.  With the below base settings, I can complete Timespy.

Keeping memory clock constant at +1300, once I exceed +100 core clock, no matter what I do with the power and voltage sliders in PX1 or afterburner, I cannot complete Timespy.

If I put in +110 core clock with power at 120% and voltage at +20%, I crash immediately in the Timespy demo.  Core +100 , Power +0%, Voltage +0%, I can run the below score result all day +/- depending on heatsoak.  GPU thermal never breaks 60C, ambient temp is 25.5C.  What am I doing wrong?

Base Settings Spec:
Air cooled Fractal 7 Compact
Intel 11700K - no overclock, D-15S black, rear/bottom filtered intake
Front mounted rad, stock fans as exhaust
Afterburner overclock on LN2 bios switch
+0% core voltage
+100 core clock
+1300 mem clock
+0% power

Pic of rig as tested.  Planned to upgrade rad fans and do push/pull.  But if thermals aren't even a problem with my overclocking , whats the point?

You aren't doing anything wrong.  Your card is a lot better than several of us on here.  I can't overclock mine at all, and turned out it was not even stable at default settings.  I had to lower my power limit to get mine to run stable, which is sad for a card that is sold as a serious overclockers card.  So feel lucky you are getting any overclock at all.

+0% power

That is a bummer mate, sorry to hear that.  Scanning this thread , it sure seems like you're correct.  I really hope someone figures out the procedure to do this right and makes it available for the masses.

Anyone know if KP cards are ever available outside of EVGAs website? Tia

anyone know if there are any other waterblocks coming for the KPE? the official evga block seems overpriced for what it is, and i can't get one even if i wanted to. there is an optimus waterblock coming, but that one will probably be like $400. it makes sense that companies would not bother making a block for a low volume product like this that comes with an AIO cooler from the factory any way, but i'm hoping i missed something.

To compare apples to apples I have to say that my ftw3 isn't a good overclocker when I just go for the core offset. It also crashes when I set it to +120. I did a lot of testing on a stable custom curve to be able to hit 15400 pr score.
And to be fair I need to give the KPE the same treatment and time. I was just a little disappointed that it crashes that early even on a mild overclock. Didn't feel kingpin like, if this makes any sense

I got the Kingpin on Friday and tried to do some overlocks. I was able to do +140 and 1100+ mem with 100% power limit, but crashed on portal royal with the same offsets with 120% power limit, both overlock were done on the LN2 bios. So maybe it has something to do with the power limit? I don't think it is the issue with my PSU (1000w), so maybe adjusting the msvdd voltage will help?

Ok I discovered something weird:
I did some testing with Port Royal and the results don’t make to much sense.
It seems like the driver I use may favour the ftw3 over the KPE:

FTW3 / +105core / +1500mem:
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/63725246

KingPin / +90core / +1700mem:
https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/63693448

Compared result:
https://www.3dmark.com/compare/pr/1124481/pr/1122963#

Nvidia Driver:
466.27

As you can see the KPE had higher average clock + mem but still had worse result.

I would backoff on your mem offset for the KPE.  It may complete the run successfully, but it may be having memory errors, and since it is ECC memory, it may be spending cycles correcting the error, hence the lower score.  Just a theory.

You can try this test to see: https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocking/comments/ko1pje/is_there_a_way_i_can_see_if_my_gddr6_is_error/

Here is a good article which explains the performance drop off when you start having errors: https://itigic.com/gddr6x-memory-why-it-achieves-more-speed-and-overclock/

Omg this KPE is cursed!
Px1 notified me that there is an firmware update for this card. Started the update but it almost instantly failed and now the oled display says "firmware update". The firmware update keeps crashing...
