The more that I look at it the more that the back of that card just disgusts me. That color ugh looks like the board out of a pong system or something, if you are gonna make that thing look that god awful, for heavens sakes put a backplate on it.

I mean really, a backplate will not only make it look MUCH better, it will keep that ram cooler too.

It is like hmmm pretty good looking on the fan sink side, flip it over, and it is ugly as sin.

Why not just buy two 580s? They'll be significantly faster, as even a dual GF110 card will be seriously downclocked and bandwidth limited compared to two 580s. Although probably a bit more expensive.

For me the main value of dual-GPU cards is that you can build a quad-GPU setup without having a monster motherboard and case, and for compute servers you can put more GPUs in the system than you have PCI slots. If you just want two GPUs for gaming, honestly two single-GPU cards usually makes more sense.

It's almost certainly a GF114 based card. There isn't really any way they could make a dual GF110 card without severely crippling it to keep power draw and temps under control.

Even the techreport article says it's not a dual GF110 part. They say GF104 but I think they meant GF114. In either case that means 336 - 384 cores per GPU with a 256bit memory interface with 32 ROPs per GPU at unknown clocks. But if I had to guess, I'd put the clock speed at 700Mhz core give or take 50Mhz.

At any rate SLI GTX570s or SLI GTX580's is almost guaranteed to be faster than this. From reading about the rumored price point of the card in that it's going to be roughly the same price at a GTX580, I'm thinking this card is more for the fact that with it Nvidia can claim single card support for Surround with it and open up the possibility of multi monitor to those that do not have SLI ready boards or to those that usually don't run SLI.

Another note is that if this indeed to be called the GTX590 that may imply that this is not going to be the fastest dual GPU coming from Nvidia and is probably not the intended rival to AMD's Antilles dual GPU card. Perhaps Nvidia is leaving room for the GTX595........

well said CraptacularOne. and this is exactly why i can't wait for it to come out, been trying to go 3D surround but didn't want to go ATI, So when found out that this was coming out i got really excited about it. hope it comes out soon...

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw the pictures. It sure is a 256-bit, 1GB per GPU card; GF114 with almost certainty. It's going to place itself right above GTX580 and HD 5970, but I'm pretty sure the Antilles card will beat it. So the purpose of this card to enable 3D Surround with a single card at a relatively moderate price. Relative to what, you say. Of course to its big brother, for which this card paves the road. So yes, I can easily imagine two dual-GPU cards from NVIDIA before June.

I agree. Dual GF110s would result in too much power consumption even with dual 8-pin connectors installed on the new card. Dual GF114s makes more sense overall for both lower power consumption and heat.

Hmm at least at this CES, we arent seeing a guy firing chickens at a rocket sled, and taking picture throught the vent on a pc to look at new vidcards, the more that I think about the fermi release days, the more I realize how poorly it was handeled. At least EVGA is giving good pics of the cards.

The power connectors can all draw more than the spec'ed power,  i.e, the 8-pin can draw more than 150W, no problem, otherwise no one would have been able to OC their cards far.

Nvidia wouldn't intentionally release a card that will exceed what a PSU is capable of delivering. Overclocking is another matter entirely as that is not intended by Nvidia themselves. They only intend the card to be run at default frequencies.

Another note is that if this indeed to be called the GTX590 that may imply that this is not going to be the fastest dual GPU coming from Nvidia and is probably not the intended rival to AMD's Antilles dual GPU card. Perhaps Nvidia is leaving room for the GTX595........

Interesting.  I had not thought of that one, but you may be on to something here.  I think you just may be right on this one Crap...I hope so anyway.

Just like HeavyHemi has posted:

Dual GTX 460?

"However, the most exciting card - which HEXUS was apparently the first publication to photograph - was a gargantuan dual-GPU model set to launch sometime in the spring. Although we couldn't tease too many details from the reps on hand, we know it'll be based on two GF104 chips, carry 2GB of memory, support three-screen surround gaming out of the box, all the while costing less than a GTX 580. As you can see, it also dwarfs the watercooled GTX 580 that we had on hand for comparison."

Rumor from CES is this is based on the GF104 and is most likely something along the lines of two GTX460s.  Not the monster everyone was hoping for (yet anyways).

Sounds like a great solution for those not wanting to outlay the $$$$ for two cards to do Surround when they can get one card that does it for around the same cost and performance of a single GTX480.

Good idea!

I think powerdraw is the limit on what can be built if some are burning there 24pin connectors already.

The pic in post #56 is probably the GTX595 with dual GF110's.

Edit:
Looks like it's a dual 470, so dual 570 is not impossible:

that is galaxy's custom pcb design with chips they prob had left over. this does not mean eVGA is using 470 chips.

That picture was released quite some time before and you ever notice that it was never released?

Probably because of the very reasons I mentioned, namely power draw and temperatures.
