I´ve just buy my first EVGA vga!!! . It's a gtx580 (1580 - vanila model).
 
I will flash it with this updated bios in order to improve its fan curve
 
Can I flash it with the SC bios in order to pre-overclock it from bios???

links in the first post not working for me. just redirects to a page cannot be displayed error screen. right clicking and choosing save as results in nothing happening.

what browser are you using? it doesnt like chrome for some reason. firefox and IE work fine though. 
 
this is if the ftp they are using is working fine.

why the new version?  the one we got works perfect.  with the winter temps my card idles 33C @ 32% fan speed with this raven 2 case.  if new version is going to up the fan speed idle it would be a downgrade for me.

Hello Jacob.
 
I've already updated my 580 (1580) with the fan unlocker and all went smooth (reinstalled drivers after also).
 
What I'm seeing is that my fan is a bit "lazy", I mean, I hit 83º pretty quickly (2 minutes of Nail´d) and fan does not kick in the way I expected, it remains at only 59%.

Is that behaviour normal? I checked with both AB and Precision and results are the same. Changing fan speed manually does work well, but in "auto" it does not seem to rise the way it should, at least to my little-to-non knowledge.

No, with EVGA's BIOS updater, it is not possible to force flash the SC BIOS to the vanilla card.  The updater will state that no compatible hardware was detected and will close.  The only way to do it with EVGA's updater package is to find a program to unpack the contents of the updater to get your hands on the BIOS .ROM or .BIN file itself and then force flash with NvFlash using the correct flags.

Hmm, not yet. Might try that later, but as my own thread, Im really happy what I have now

  Is this just an update for BO edition flashing compatibility, or .  Was there some other compatibility issue?  Will we see a BIOS with a faster fan ramping profile, or will they all be based off the same slope of the original reference BIOS?

I updated the BIOS on a vanilla version today with a EVGA GTX 580 in top slot and Galaxy GTX 580 in third slot.  The UPDATER saw one qualifying card and updated it successfully.  I went into MSI Afterburner afterwards and had the potential to overvolt to 1.15 for both cards.  I don't overvolt CPU/GPU's but I know many do and just sharing this info FYI.

To install do I uninstall Nvidia drivers, shut down Precision?  Then install fan unlocker, reinstall Nvidia drivers?

Are you using the one specifically for the SC? How about giving us a GPU-Z screen shot? As long as the device ID matches it should work.
