The 3090 FTW3 that I received in October died from the black screen issue that so many had reported. I RMAd in February and the card I received back has been absolutely solid since. Many people before me had RMAd their cards multiple times until finally receiving a good working card that started going out since February, seeing these reports had died down. That suggests to me that EVGA knew what the problem was and quietly managed to fix it with some kind of a stealth revision.
Now this issue has exploded again, but I'm wondering what is the consensus? Is this Amazon game capable of killing the EVGA replacement cards that we've received since Feb? Or is it exposing the flaw in the earlier batch of cards? I'm not planning on trying this game myself for now. Don't need to relive the headache of RMAing a $2000 brick. lol

EVGA has to figure this out, bad publicity going viral! Source multiple online forums including Videocardz. FYI. I will continue to check back for any resolve.

I was playing NW a few months back without issue (EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra)... Did some all day sessions without problems on the weekend. However my card has the EK WB and backplate, I also have it vertically mounted with fans blowing on it. I was running dual monitors w/ the game set to 4k, can't remember the FPS nor the temps. I do believe that my temps were below or around 70C.

So I am on my 3rd 3090 Evga Ultra, I have played the Alpha New world for months. My card runs very hot playing that game and not to long ago I had the famouse black screen of death on the new card but computer restarted and I am Fine. I am going no where near this Beta lol but There is something defiantly wrong with these Cards. I have a 3090 Kingpin sitting in the Garage contemplating on if I should sell it make a couple bucks or redo my computer to fit it. Now I am thinking of Selling my 3090 Ultra one and trying to Find someone to do a Straight up Trade new for new on the Kingpin for a Asus Strix. I really want to walk away from this card and Evga.

Had this happen to me yesterday, FTW 3090. Clicking the continue button in New World to go to the world select screen. Fans 100% and both monitors turned off. I figured it was just a crash, everything seemed fine after a restart so I went back in to the game, the second I clicked that exact same button I hear a very noticeable pop sound and the same issue, wouldn't work after a restart from that point. Now, I actually can get the card to work if I don't plug anything in to the HDMI port, the DisplayPort actually seems ok. The second I plug anything in to that HDMI port now I hear a pop in the card and it shuts off.

This is my second EVGA FTW3 Ultra direct from EVGA. I had a very similar issue to you with my first card. If they did quietly repair the issue, my second card has not had that fix. Or it is an entirely different issue. This time the fans did not ramp upto 100% during the black screen like it did the first time, it just black screened and my game audio was still going. Eventually the system shut down and the 3rd PCIe port at the end of the card now refuses to accept power. My system is protecting itself by not starting. So it does seem like potentially another issue from my original problem months ago. I just hope my third card resolves these issues, this does not inspire confidence in EVGA. Thankfully I am still confident they'll replace the card without any hassle.

More car analogies. This like doing a motor swap in a car, putting a high performance engine in. The GPU is the engine.

When initiating an RMA you can now select New World as a reason. Seems like EVGA support has recognized this issue.

I won't be surprised if EVGA add that so they can go back on Amazon in some fashion for all the cards that were damaged playing their game and try and get some money back.

Reports of dead 30 series cards had almost stopped for a few months. Now there's an explosion of them. Clearly something weird is going on. It seems really strange to think a video game (New World) is to blame. Either the new Nvidia driver is doing something wonky or NW is exposing a flaw in these cards that, somehow, hasn't been revealed by anything else. BTW, that Jay guy said that there are reports of this happening in 30 series cards from manufacturers other than EVGA, whereas a lot of people here are making it out like it's an EVGA-only problem.

I think I saw on reddit that a few people with 3080 had the same issue. I have a 3080FTW3, and mine just restarted the 1st time I ran the game but it booted and worked fine after.

Fat chance EVGA would get a penny out of Amazon. Software killing hardware is failure of the hardware safeguards.

Played 2 more hours with my RTX 3090 FTW3 UG this evening with the FPS capped to 60 fps and the temp was correct (60 ~ 65 fps) and my GPU load was around 40 % (1440p, highest settings). No particular sign or issue.

If you want to play with vsync off then you should be able to with the card being able to handle it. If the card can’t handle it then it isn’t designed correctly.

Jay had a good point that EVGA has a lot of 3090s in the wild, and I believe that, at least for the US. And that can give the impression that it’s predominately an EVGA problem when it’s not. However, EVGA as the manufacturer here still has the responsibility to address issues affecting their product, regardless of if it’s happening to other AIB cards or not. If it’s a dead GPU, they RMA, and I don’t doubt they will honor that like they always do. But they should also look into the problem and try to come up with mitigation techniques (BIOS updates, PSAs to customers about suggested settings, etc). At the same time, the game developers should be looking at their code (from what I hear this is a game in Beta, not even released) to figure out what’s causing this behavior and limit it on their end too. This isn’t a problem that needs to be solely shouldered by one party. It can be worked from multiple angles in a collaborative effort. But given the reality of the world, everyone will play the Spider-Man meme blame game.

I was a bit afraid of a brick so I watched after the temperatures and the CPU usage the whole time. I also noticed 250 to 300 watts power drain no more.
