This game out today.  Maybe this is a good sign?

still no real news from EVGA yet.... id like to know if there is an issue

I guess I am the last of the 3090 ftw 3 ultra RMAs.  I just mailed my out today. The card died about a week ago while playing new world and I didn't think it was the gpu that died when my PC crashed and wouldn't start up. I initially thought it was my motherboard or PSU, but after swapping out my dark hero and 5950x with my old 9900k and maximus xi code and buying a second Seasonic 1000w titanium (so I can swap my old one out), I finally was able to power the PC on with the integrated graphics of the 9900k. I never knew I would miss the option of having integrated GPUs until this happened (a gripe I have now with AMD cpus). 
 
My FTW3 was probably a first edition (purchased in october with red clown lips), and from reading this forum seems like all these old ones had some faulty issues built in. Hopefully my replacement will no longer have these hardware issues.

Agreed. Friend of mine got me New World, didn't play the Beta at all as I had heard about the various cards dying.
Would feel better knowing the issue before jumping in when the game is released.

I purchased a EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming that is currently being replaced under warranty due to a failure while playing New World during beta testing. It was in a system with quality components including a 1000w Seasonic Platinum power supply. I did not use a custom BIOS or otherwise abuse the card. 
 
I would like to play New World and similar games in the future with the replacement card and not have this sort of failure recur.
 
Does EVGA have recommendations on how to prevent this from happening in the future?

No official EVGA recommendations.  My "personal opinion" recommendations are to:
 
- Get good cool fresh air flow along the length of the card and into the fans, especially across the back plate, so that temps don't go much over 70C and vram junction temps under 90C (HWiNFO, not X1).  Good fast fan speeds.  I lock GPU fans at like 90% gaming at full power. 
- Don't use a 3090 FTW3 in a small glass case. Use a full ATX case with plenty of mesh and good fans properly set up.
- If you want slow fans, turn down the POWER LIMIT
- Undervolt can still allow full power on a heavy load, see above.  It alone does not lower temps in all situations. Be careful.
- You can generally achieve the same results as an undervolt with a combination of reduced power limit, core OC and frame limiter, but probably safer, more stable and reliable.
- 3 PSU cables. 
- Some Seasonic PSU's have had problems, but the "Prime Ultra" series might be OK.
- Monitor with OSD (on screen display) at all times. Freq, vcore, power, use, and especially core temp and vram junction temp. I like HWiNFO and Riva Tuner for this.
- Keep X1 up to date so you get firmware updates.

I have heard of issues with the Focus Plus series. None with the Prime Ultra. The Prime series is usually one of the most highly rated if not outright best rated.

Didnt the game studio say they fixed the issue?

They issued a patch that limited frame rates in menu screens. The cards with faulty voltage regulators are still susceptible to failure, however.

I saw mention of 3080's in the last couple of weeks, but the vast majority appear to have been the 3090 FTW cards, with a fair number of those being the Rev 0.1 boards. One such was on Tweaktown, if I recall correctly, quoting Jayztwocents, among others.

There was so much going on, with not a little bit of misinformation/misunderstanding in the various threads, that I'm not 100% certain there actually was an issue with the 3080's in this case.

Thanks for answering! How do I know if my card is rev 0.1 or 1.0?

Did the 3080 get a rev 1.0 update? I know the 3090 has, but I haven't seen any others.

yeah, seems like everyone should be putting revision # in their profile for each 30xx card
I will if I ever get one...
 
 

JayzTwoCents tried everything on youtube to try and kill an EVGA 3090 card, but did not manage to break it.
