Hi Folks,

recently replaced my 2700x and my ASUS mobo, (CPU seemed not to be performing correctly).
After reassembling everything, some games that I was running over 60fps at 4k ultra now have some evident stuttering.
The framerate never drops, it actually goes into the 100fps sometimes. The stutters happen when I have vsync on and sometimes disappear if I go from fullscreen to borderless.

I've been going crazy for a couple of days now, and thought it was my CPU or maybe had to do with cooling.
By chance I tried to use the HDMI port instead of the displayport, and the stuttering disappears. I checked every single displayport on the 2080TI and the games stutter every time.

It might be a bad displayport cable (I only have one at home), but it's brand new (came with monitor I bought a few months ago and never used it).
What's surprising is that it wasn't happening before.

Anybody has any idea or similar experiences?

Hmm. Looks like the ftw3 may have a display port firmware issue... https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2897450

What's surprising is 3 posts about similar issues in the last few hours. Is the firmware updated automatically without asking? I remember updating the BIOS when I first installed the card 10 days or so ago and at first I didn't have these problems. Maybe is something related to the latest version of Precision X1?

Pretty sure px1 doesn't have anything to do with this as I believe it doesn't actually update the display port firmware.

Weirdly enough, when I play Battlefield V the problem mostly goes away. I see some extremely minor stuttering here and there compared to HDMI, but nothing to the scale of the other games I tried (Hitman 2 and Ashen), which both have very visible stuttering.

Just a couple questions as I am seeing a odd suttering probelm on my end. Ive noticed when I see stutters (been using Heaven as I got a new card) I can audibly hear the fans lose speed for a split second then spool back up. Its eactly in sync with the stuttering. Its limited to only when I have the switch on the card set to Oc and not normal. I was running stock frequencies. I then went to Precision X1 and left the frequencies alone but raised the power limit to maximum. This did help the stuttering to some degreee, it happened significantly less, but it still happened.

I was wondering what settings you were using on your card and if you noticed this odd behavior too. I was reading this as I am using DP too but our issues may not be related. I was just wondering to help me and/or you identify the issue with their system.

This sounds exactly like the problem I have been having with my ftw3 since I got it a couple of months ago, is there anywhere that I can download the DP firmware? unfortunately I haven't been able to RMA yet as I have to wait until I'm back in the UK on the 27th.

I haven't noticed the fans losing any speed. They make this crackling noise (like an old hard drive) when they start spinning, but that's a common problem.
My card is running stuck frequencies and is not overclocked.
At this point I think I'm going to try to put back the first mobo+CPU I had, and see if this still happens in that case too.

Sorry, have no idea about the firmware.
Have you tried if the problem disappears with the HDMI cable? I've been doing all sorts of tests (and probably do more), and at this point everything points toward the DPs.

I have always heard of Heaven but never used it until recently. I just stuck to my bread and butter 3D Mark. I was not aware that stutters were normal in Heaven, it was brought to my attention in another thread after this post. It is suspected the stutters in Heaven allow the card to cool slightly in OC mode. Thus the speed drops because the fans are on a curve and not set to a specific speed. Once the load immediately hits again, the fans spool back up to a higher rpm. My issue is a non-issue.

I tried to put another motherboard + CPU and reinstall everything and the same thing happens.
I've just ordered a VESA certified DP cable. I'll see if that fixes the issue.

After more testing it seems somewhat also related to vsync. When I turn on vsync in game is when the stutters occur.
if I turn it off and turn it on in the global Nvidia settings instead everything seems fine.

So, it seems like stutters happen only with DP + in-game vsync on.

Update. I got a VESA certified DP cable and I still have the same issue.
After much testing, the stutters appear only with the DP ports, only with some games, and only with vsync on in game.
If I either switch to HDMI, or enable vsync in the Nvidia settings, everything is fine.

So, I really don't know what to think at this point. The fact that it happens only with certain games makes me think it's not a DP issue.
