Almost all of the testing I do for EVGA is on VGA side, not mobo. I took exception with the E779 and really felt they needed to redesign it from ground up. Like I said, on some of those older bios I had my issues as well. I put forth my ideas on what I felt could improve the most on previous teams X79,and the project was started. Nothing is the same on this Dark as previous X79. PWM, component selection, layout, specific memory layout, pcb layering, and totally new bios. There is almost completely new design and bios team that did this board as well as DQE testing procedures in place for testing and validating the new Uefi bios.
I really love this new motherboard and yes I really love EVGA as a company and how they can compete and give better customer service than these larger companies they battle with. That's what always drew me to EVGA and to use their products in my extreme overclocking. I want to see them not only kicking ass on VGA, but mobo as well. This Dark board is another step to getting that back.
I am certain you guys will love it, especially over previous X79. Brand new board, brand new bios (of course there might be a bios bug or issue DQE hasn't found yet with some peripheral that will pop up in future). Get a thread going at the forums here to report anything you find quickly, and I'm sure it will get fixed as quickly as possible.

Great to hear k|ngp|n - Hope it works as well or better than my current EVGA X-79.

To The Mods - No need to close this thread for personal attacks against me. I'd be more concerned about Oprah dying from starvation, then anything going on here.

I'm more concerned about .... oh the heck with it... I could care less about Oprah.  I am concerned about the board.  In a good way I should add.

Vince,

I believe you.  I'll leave it at that.  It's a good step for EVGA and those who feel 'afflicted'.  I don't feel that way but I didn't want to go hard down for a step up/replacement program.  So I bought a Classified X79.  I'm getting ready to shift my system over to that board while awaiting the Dark.  I suppose I can step up from the Classy later if need be and if EVGA allows.  Doesn't really matter to me.  I don't OC.

[/end Vince]

Meanwhile, it gave me (the step up program) a chance to change my system.  I have the CM Trooper case now... and I'm putting the system together with a Crucial M500 SSD (960).  I like the case although it needs a few mods to make me happy.  Minor stuff but it's me.

I think we as a bunch of techno nuts (or choose your own description) will be happy with the Dark.

If you read all my posts I have never said a bad word about anybody, just NOT my style... I think you would see a LOT less griping if this was treated as an advanced RMA. I have had 3 advanced RMAs already so what's a 4th? I am glad they are doing something, I am REALLY glad my computer will have a chance to work 100%. I wish I was one of those whose machines worked fine... I dream a lot don't I... I do look forward to tearing down my X79 for the LAST time... I won't mind switching CPUs for one of the new Ivy Bridge-Es though...

It's great to hear that you had a hand in helping this new iteration of board come to life, and while this is completely out of your hands and not be blamed on you in any way I still don't understand why anyone should give EVGA another chance.

You say that if and when problems crop up that we should report things here on the forums so it can get fixed "as quickly as possible" but we did just that with the last x79 and the response was neither quick nor did it fix anything.

In the end while I'm sure your intentions are good, and you've probably worked hard to help shape this new board, I just can't see myself backing a company that would charge owners of a completely faulty product for what is essentially an RMA case. In the past when EVGA has released faulty graphics cards (I'm reminded of the 9800GX2 heat issues here) they without hesitation would RMA replace the cards with equal or better performing cards. That is what made me love EVGA and trust them in the past, that they would stand by their product 100%. IF they screwed up they would eat the cost and make it right. Now things have changed and EVGA expects us the customer to pay for their R&D/Hiring mistakes. I'm sorry that EVGA's dream team left ( I really am, we all suffered for it) but we should not be expected to take on any additional burden for this, I think it's more than fair that EVGA send replacement boards for the cost of shipping considering the mistake was again 100% theirs and cost us the customer in troubleshooting time and RMA shipping in the past.

Well of course its your choice whether you want to use a new piece of computer hardware or not :D. Just letting you fellas know the new board is sweet. There are new testing procedures and many new mobo staff here that didn't exist during 779 era regretfully, so the normal bios/issues and new revisions can be handled more expediently. Gotta move forward...gotta.

No official release date, no x79 Dark. Talk about how great it is all you want. It's been 6+ months of talking about it and stalling.

Their is no x79 Dark as far as I'm concerned until its in the hands of everyday people or at least in the hands of well known reviewers that can talk to us about it.

I'll hold judgement until the board is proven working and stable in the hands of the masses.

Kingpin, You are a brave man endorsing this board considering the complete fail of the EVGA
previous X79 line and the way EVGA have screwed over the unfortunate buyers of said line.
I truly hope for your sake that the X79 DARK is what you say it is.
If it turns out to be another dud, your reputation may suffer as well.

My fingers are crossed for you bud.

I also have to say that it is not a good sign that you say there has been a totally new MB team
working on this board, yet it has taken them this long to work out all the kinks.
Just sayin.

I'm trying to remain optimistic and confident the Dark mobo will be great.  I know that's easier for me to do since I didn't jump on the X79's right off like a lot here did.

+1 on that bdary - EVGA has been fantastic for years, the X79 being the exception rather than the rule as some would have us believe.

Kingpin,

Have you already or would you be able to test the Dark to confirm that all the slots are able to negotiate PCI-E 3.0 using the NVIDIA GEN3 Patch. Myself and other users here have had problems with existing EVGA boards and negotiating GEN3 on some slots that varies from board to board. I use my boards and GPUs for compute purposes and the more bandwidth I can throw at the application, the better the performance. This is one of the reasons I had to previously switch MB manufacturers. If you could check your Dark board for PCI-E 3.0 compliance, I would appreciate it. In particular, I am interested in slot 1, 3, and 6 (x16/x16/x8). Thanks.

Np man...
That is one of the BIG things about this board is the new gen3 recipe it uses :D.  ALL X79 mobos had issues with gen3 when x79 launched and from what I know the problem is mostly on INTEL's side. Yes E779 had those issues as well on certain slots/combos of 8x/16x/gen2/gen3.
On Dark board everything works as it should 1-4 cards in different slots/combos. With Dark board you guys will get FULL control of PCI-E link width and gen settings to configure how you want. Bios has it all:

Check it out,  I did this for you this morning:
PCIE Slot 1 - 16x/gen3

PCIE Slot 3 - 16x/gen3

PCIE SLot 6 - 8X/gen3

PCIE Slots 1,2,4,and 6 (4-way config)

Anyone else have questions about other features/capabilities of the board that you have doubts or are curious about? I'm happy to show you anything that you want to see. I just heard some news that shipping of the boards for you guys starts tomorrow! :D.

Thank you very much for taking the time to test out the different slot configurations and for posting the great screenshots of hardware, software, and BIOS. The new board and BIOS both look great overall. I like the new slot layout allowing for three cards with max bandwidth and a single open slot of airflow between cards or 4-way @ x8. This gives quite a bit of flexibility for different card configurations. I will probably be doing the upgrade soon and look forward to working with the new board.

@ k|ngp|n / Vince : Can you please post on here when you have your Dark-specific OC guide up (mentioned on your site). Also what RAM have you been using with this board (make/model/rating etc)?
Thanks.

Will do for sure sometime next week!

Maybe I won't be getting a RIVE with a new 4930k.....

You took the words right out of my mouth.  Still I'm going to wait a couple of weeks to  hear the members sound off, and I hope they do.
