This is nonsense - EVGA is still The Best Of The Best when it comes to the current crop of Motherboard Manufacturers.  When it comes to dealing their customers - ASUS is the worst - and there is no denying that.  So go ahead and post your little photoshop pictures, I for one still appreciate the 14 YEARS of outstanding products, support and community EVGA has provided me.

Given the issues ALL of the Manufactures have had with X-79 I think it's safe to say Intel is directly responsible as well.  So if you're going to cast blame - throw a photoshop up with them as well.

Yay no. Do you own one of their recent motherboards? They are terrible and riddled with issues. I've had my RIVF for several months with no issues. Big deal with their CS isn't the best there are ways around dealing with them.

Hey you guys know I've been a 3dmark ho pretty much forever. It has always been about that for me and if it can get the job done that I need out of it and help me push and get the best scores with our vgas as possible, it's good for me.  At times the old E779 BIOS was difficult on my side as well, so I can imagine a full scale gaming rig where a super stable OC is needed as well as just an overall wellness :D. For sure I can understand how those with E779 problems could really care less about highest possible benchmark scores. I still need to do what I do tho and as far as this board goes, too late? Hail nah..better to make it right and how it should of been from the beginning. The old team is pretty much gone now and this new board has really made my life easier lol and brought back some excitement in lab testing around here. Ivy-E is coming and I have high hopes for this platform, need a proper board to bench these vgas on hard. Now I have DARK.
Some really nice new scores on it last week...triple 780 ended up being faster than quad by a bit, almost at 49k cloudgate now on a 3930K:
3DMARK CLOUDGATE
3DMARK FIRESTRIKE OVERALL
3DMARK FIRESTRIKE XTREME OVERALL
3DMARK FIRESTRIKE XTREME SINGLE GPU

Would be nice if EVGA would just get this mobo out in the wild so you guys can kill all these old threads and start anew. No need to delete them but locking them might be a good idea RJ.

Anyone who has not read them, most likely at this point won't be reading them anyway bud.

Yah bios is finalized over here. Its solid on my end at least the ones I tested today.  Don't lock the thread, people are entitled to tell a manuf. exactly what they think if something doesn't deliver. This thread is about that boards replacement, so it is gonna draw heat. Might have some nice updates soon with 780 classified part :D.

Looking forward to it. I think many here consider 3DMark the gold standard in benching, so achieving what you have definitely reflects well on the Dark. Some here have inferred that the opinion of an EVGA employee is going to be skewed, but imho that really holds no water - 3DMark does not care who you work for; empirical evidence is what it is.

p.s. Sorry Nordic / RJ for the post before.

Re:DARK 2013/08/05 06:10:14 (permalink)
Nobody said that Kingpin (Vince) is just talking up EVGA because he's an Employee, however his experience with their products is going to be largely more positive (assuming that it is not a 100% failure) due to cherrypicking parts.

No doubt that Vince has shown his ability to push hardware to its limit and beyond but even he has to admit that EVGA and hell any company trying to achieve records are going to Bin specifically for the most stable board out there. Vince says he's experienced some issues with the X79? Well either they were never as bad as ours due to binning or he has to refrain from bad mouthing the company that provides him the hardware he uses to meet his goals.

In the end I don't think Vince is being called out on what he does but rather on the fact that his opinion in relation to the companies product holds no real water. IF he purchased his product from EVGA without any type of special affiliation then we would be inclined to believe him.

However Vince you are associated with EVGA and last year when my loyalty was still strong I saw you as the guy breaking records with the hardware that a company I loved sold. With you endorsing the company's motherboard I felt safe taking a chance with the x79.

Yours may overclock well, but mine will NOT clock past factory settings. I've swapped cherry picked 3930ks, 3820's, I've removed my EVGA GTX 680 Classys, I've replaced my powersupply with 3 different 1200W supplies from different companies, I've even removed the damn case and swapped memory. The only factor that remained was the motherboard.

Do you know what my RIVE did? (and trust me I despise ASUS Customer service so I'm not talking them up) It worked, not only did it work it overclocked well.

I'll end my rant here, not even sure why I keep coming in here. I guess I just want to hate more on a product and company that have burnt me.

I am at the point now where the extra time and inconvenience hurt, but I feel it's the best of all the options I have. I will not be Haswell ready in January MAYBE when the X99 is out and fully tested and exploited I can worry it then 6-8 months from now. For now, I'll pay my $200, be inconvenienced, tear my machine down YET AGAIN and then move on hoping everything works... It is what it is. Right OR wrong it the hand I have, and that is how I am going to play it. I hope when this starts Vince puts out a guide how to best set up the MB so I can save a lot of grief. Yes I know all CPUs are not the same but a GOOD guide should people a lot!

Cherry picking nah on a MOBO, his GPU's however.  Even though he did state that he picked his four classifieds from a group of cards.  I think the main issue with Vince saying anything about this MOBO is, does he use it day to day?  We know its used in press photos and his forums when he's showing off LN2 record runs.  We need to know about 24/7 operation of this mobo in use by people.

Re:DARK 2013/08/05 08:07:59 (permalink)
Vince is an overclocker... bar none.  However, I also believe he turns off a lot of the every day things we use (USB etc.) to achieve his clocks.

Therefore while he is testing stability of the system he is not testing the complete stability of the entire system.

(You really need to OC for a considerable amount of time and test all functionality (including USB ports, sound, IO times etc.) in my mind.)

That said, I'm not blaming him for the X79 disaster as some have called it (I am not calling it that for the record).  I see this as just an untested motherboard that does well until you attempt to OC it in even it's mildest form.  That's my two cents worth.

I'm pleased that EVGA has offered at least a method to fix things, albeit not in the way some of the users here would prefer.  I haven't had major problems with this board with the exception of OC'ing and the ocassional USB 3.0 drop outs (No dropouts experienced as of the last two months).  So I'm not going to complain much.

Personally depending on the feeling level of folks I don't think their is a perfect solution to the problem and one that won't inflict on EVGA's ability to stay in business.  It would cost a lot of money to fix it with free boards.  I'm betting this is the cost difference between manufacture cost and sales.  I'm good with that.

I'm just wondering if they're going to stretch this out. Wait until Friday and say they got the MB's in then another week to to process the massive inbound/outbound shipments.

I'm assuming EVGA understood very well when they announced they would get the MB's in this week what people would reasonably assume. Time will tell.

Hey RJ, did your H100 mount right up on your X79??  The manual says compatible with 2011 sockets, but just wondering.

Works perfectly by the way

Great...  Thanks for the reply.

Congratz on the new CPU.  Nice one...  Hopefully we'll have the Dark soon to use these on.

I am really looking forward to proper PCIe 3.0 behaviour, along with stable USB ports. The new BIOS as well is interesting. Overall, I like the improvements made with the Dark, now I just hope it'll be out any day now and we can see if it's as good as we hope.
