@AHowes I've been keeping track of your posts and making a comment every now and then I am heading back to Illinois now from my trip to Vermont for a couple days of nothing but benching and I'm gonna have a couple beers with me but if I have your issues a couple beers could transform into a more intense sort drink.

Haha.. well I'm learning fast so I'll be around. ;)

I'll be busy focusing on my new case but always around.

What I really need to do is install that older 419 nvidia driver and stomp it once and for all! Haha.. think it's the difference.

I've since gained 400+ points in an evening so thrilled about that.

Off to bed finally! Forcing myself.

Have a safe trip dwexpress! And my your beers be frosties!

Re: Anyone figure out the Kingpin card yet? 2019/05/02 15:24:55 (permalink)
Yesterday, I tried the 430.53 hotfix but there was still some minor flickering in Timespy though the flicker was a lot less than 430.39.  I still had PX1 power limit issues also.  I only ran a couple quick benches but didn't notice much difference in performance vs 430.39 or 425.31.

I've been stuck at 2145mhz gpu for awhile and was really scratching my head since I had previously been up to 2205mhz, With the driver issues coming to light, I decided to start from scratch.

1) I did the full DDU downgrade to 425.31 and followed bcavnaughs procedures to sanitize PX1.  Decided to also scrub out all other EVGA software, e-leet, CLC-280 flow control, NU audio, led sync etc.  I do like the EVGA softwares so I'll re-install these in a controlled fashion when I get some more 'driver time'.  So back to AB for a bit.
2) Following a few mentions by others in this forum, I've started rebooting immediately after any changes in the Classified tool.  If I get a hard lockup or at cold boot, then I boot twice, once to set values in Classified tool, then reboot again before benching.
3) I tested loadline again and zeroed in on loadline 6 and 1.15/1.45v for now.  Before I was mostly running NVVDD at auto and FBVDD at 1.45 with loadline 0 for best scores.

These three points have made my kingpin much less cranky.  Managed to push back up to 2190mhz for a Cloudgate run and a new high for me.  Now if only I could figure out why I suck so bad at Firestrike lol.

Using PX1 I could not get the power limit to set at 144, always reverted to 100 (ran PX1 as admin).  I thought I read this was a problem with the driver 430.39.

Oh no kidding! thanks for the tip on Firestrike and awesome chart of results!  I'm a bit blown away by what you are showing.  Looks like I got some serious runs to do. lol

It is an issues with Driver 430.39 and Above Now. For Now I am Staying with 425.31.
Unless PX1 is updated to handle NVIDIA's New Security Features that have been added.
Seems 2,190 MHz is my best, but that is good with me.

When you set the Slider to the Max and then Click Apply and then Click Save and then Click on Profile 1 and then Click Save Two Times.
Then make sure you have the Load Last Setting Set under Settings.

This is the Only Item I Use, I like my Desktop Loaded and set before other tools startup.

I basically cant use px1 to overclock the card at all.. been the same with the 1080ti and 2080ti. Not much has changed for me with px1 over pxoc.

The curve sucks as one cant lock the voltage on the curve.

Just adding +100 is no good for me on px1. Will crash soon afterwards cause its using whatever voltage it wants to use.. maybe it will be different now that I can lock the voltage with the classified tool but I'd have to power up set the voltage and reboot to use it.. that would be a pain everytime to game.

I've discovered that I could set a curve on afterburner and then open up px1 and it would show the same new curve on there but I dont how to apply it or set the curve to run.

Hitting apply or save don't seem to work.

Opening ab.. opening up the curve and grab a dot at the voltage I want and raise it to the clock I want to run at and hit apply works for me.

Wish I could use px1. Other then that the osd is a hit or miss when it wants to work. One bench it won't and another time the same bench test will.

For Owners that do not want to use PX1 should at least Installed it to update the LED Firmware and set the Defaults for the OLED.
On the OLED if you are not using XP1 you might want to uncheck any OLED Sensors that only work with PX1 running. See the xDevs Guide

From studying the drivers from TimeSpy's Top scores from March-May, most use 419.17 and 419.71. Also, users on 425.31 are scoring as high and higher.

Other then that the osd is a hit or miss when it wants to work. One bench it won't and another time the same bench test will.

If you are serious about obtaining good benchmark scores, you should not have Precision nor AB running during the benchmark; much less using an OSD.  You can easily lose hundreds of points by having Precision or AB open (especially Precision due to common higher CPU usage).

Using AB and PX1, how do you retain the values set after closing them? How about the classified tool? Do I need it open or does the card store the CT settings? What is an OSD?

That's what I was going to ask.. I believe I've closed them in the past when I was trying to get serious but atm I'm trying to monitor what's going on with the card during benches.

I know px1 the settings will stick with static fan profile atleast.. so I'm guessing its prob the same with ab.

Classified tool just hit apply and close it. But I believe certain settings like for mem and maybe loadline, you'll need to reboot the system for it to take.

wwxww,
OSD = on screen display, its touch and go if it works at all. Seems to work on Heaven benchmark
It will cause time spy to crash. AHowes covered the rest of it. if you want ab or px1 to save when you make changes hit apply and save it to a position number, then it will stay when closed.

Hi Zeddivile!  Thanks!  I'm chasing your FSE score but its like chasing a mirage in the desert haha.  May I ask what cpu cooling and volts do you use for 5.4?  I'm trying to move from 5.3 to 5.4 but havent stabilized Windows yet.

After my first night of clocking to 2360mhz and 8450mhz ram clock and seeing the benchmarks the same as if I was running at 2130mhz. Just over 18k in firestrike extreme, I'm a little discouraged.

Seeing how my former ftw3 ultra was benching much higher at 2160 +500 and seeing Tin mention that the card isint running 2300mhz at above 0 temps and it must be throttling, I'm guessing there must be some unseen wall up on performance.

What's the top secret formula to get this card to open up so I can judge it against my former card?

So far my advice is to stick with a regular card if your a gamer. I cant see normal every day people going threw hoops and experiments to unlock the performance in this card that they would just get buying a much cheaper card and doing a standard 2100+ overclock and set it and go.

Did they put a few too many performance caps in the card unless your doing ln2 to unlock the performace?

I've read of a few posts of kingpin users mentioning clocks stuck under 2200 and a few over 2200?
Is the clocks meaningless on these cards? I mean were used to comparing card value by the overclocks were able to achieve and now that's not right?

At default boost (2055) the card scored 16.5k in firestrike extreme.. and 18k at 2130. 2175,2205,2220,2250,2320,2360 all at 18,100ish.

Mem clock seemed to add +25-50 to benches.

Power was only a little over 300watts and core temps in the 36-38c max.

Tried to warn you man... I really did.

Thanks TwoEvilOne!  I was eyballing your Port Royal score.  Nice work!  Do you have any ram benchmark scores like AIDA64?  I'm curious about the memory performance and how that compares clock for clock to Z390.  Since Zen was a rumor I've been thinking about getting a Ryzen cpu.  If Ryzen 3 drops with a 16+ core cpu I may have to take the plunge haha.

Looks like FROSTYBE3R/Bernie is about to steam roll my Firestrike score with his 9980xe.

Your graphic scores are now 58xxx? I have to start from scratch and do more reading and writing. I wanted to see how the card works.

Ohhh...ok I see. What are you using to connect your monitor with? When I use HDMI, I can clock much less or I crash easier.
